A wolf knows who's substandard because they can smell the farts as the Elk run away so wolves know which ones to cull that way.

it is good to let one go once in a bit. predaters will not pick on a tougher animal. if they get hurt , they die. only if it is about the opposite sex will an inferior animal challenge. humans are included. mike w

No, they just get the one that zigged instead of zagged.... It just so happens that "substandard" ones may zig more than zag. :chuckle:
