Title: Hearing protection while hunting?...
Post by: 257 Wby Mag on February 15, 2015, 01:06:56 PM
How many folks do this? I don't think it would be very realistic for my style of hunting. Maybe sitting in a blind? Got mentioned on another thread so I figured I'd ask.

I never have but it would probably be a really good idea for duck and goose hunting.

My daughter is pretty sensitive to loud noises so she carries a pair of ear plugs with the lanyard tied to her hat when we hunt.  She pops them is just before the shot.  Works well so far.

I guess its always the left ear that gets the most damage, i do the same thing.
My right ear never seems to ring as much.

True. That is if you're right handed, because your right ear will be facing back, while your left ear to to the front.

Yep! Started doing this after a long chuckar hunt one day and could hardly hear out of my left ear for a day or two. It really helps, although I don't use it if I'm still hunt for deer or anything. But in the truck or a blind or anything like that I have one in just incase.

I have the electronic ear muffs, I like real well for shooting, when hunting tho, I can hear my collar move, bushes rub together, etc. wind blowing. I aint sure they help for hunting but they are nice for shooting. I would only try them on a stand, not walking.

I think I need to start wearing ear protection while hunting to save what hearing I have left.

I wear sure fire ep7 ear plugs I take the center flange out and I can hear great and it deadens the gun shot enough that I don't have problems.

I wear them in a duck blind or layouts while goose hunting. I keep the right one a little loose so I can hear a bit.

Big game I keep a set of foam plugs on the strings around my neck tucked in my shirt or coat and given the time I will put them in.  I figure each time I can put them in is one less time I'll say "what'd you say" in another 10 to 15 years or so!

Started wearing the Walker Game Ears for goose hunts in the layout blinds. When I put a muzzle brake on my .300 Weatherby, I started using them for deer and elk hunting as well. Amazing how far way you can hear an animal when it is walking. Now I use the game ears anytime I am shooting.

I keep a set of the silicone ear plugs around my neck if I'm moving around a lot while hunting. They're quicker to get in than the foam kind. If I'm just sitting I wear a set of electronic muffs.

My hearing is already bad from sitting in an aluminum box with a diesel engine 3 feet away from me for 12 hours a day. I'd like to keep the little bit of hearing that I have left!

one of these days i'd like to get a pair of electronic ear plugs.  regular ones don't really cut it when duck calling for me, and i also miss out on the low fliers that sneak up behind you.

i bought some of the custom fit molded ear plugs and they are a big step up from the disposable kind, don't make me feel like my head is in a vise.
