The last 6 or so years of them are made into a necklace, but it just sits in my desk drawer. I do have a cool NWTF beer mug that I put the beards in. I had rats get into a shoe box that had 14 years worth of beards and spurs in them. Broke my heart.

Ha ha, my lab did the same thing. She couldn't resist the turkey jerky on the end of the beards. Looked like someone took scissors and chopped them off. I put the remaining strands in a beer mug. Turned out well.

Don't make that mistake with SC people or you will have a fight. Mine is a Clemson University ring, the other is a Citadel ring.

But man, some of those things are amazing. My biggest is 1 1/8" but no point to it at all. Came off an old fighting bird missing 4 or 5 tail feathers, my second Washington bird from right over where you are headed. Good luck to your group, and thanks for sharing so much, I bet it helps you when you get here :tup:.

This was a fall bird a few years ago, I shot it the day before thanksgiving, it sure was tasty. I thought it would be tougher than my boot, but it had 1/4" of fat on it and was as good as any bird I ever ate. I watched it for 2 weeks waiting for the right moment, and on my day off, it made the mistake of sticking to its pattern.

I've bagged younger gobblers with cuts in there breast, and on there legs from fighting. Spurs that aren't sharp will leave a bruise. Sharp spurs go a long ways when establishing dominance.

Looks like a good early morning hunt. I'm barely into the woods by 9:00 AM, but we can hunt all day. Several gobblers have fallen between 10:00 and 6:00, I'm just not a fly-down type of hunter.
