I know the rocky terrain keeps the Spurs knocked down on your birds, so enjoy these

Nice ones! Thx for sharing. What do u do with all of your spurs? Is there a cool way to display all of them?

The last 6 or so years of them are made into a necklace, but it just sits in my desk drawer. I do have a cool NWTF beer mug that I put the beards in. I had rats get into a shoe box that had 14 years worth of beards and spurs in them. Broke my heart.

Impressive
Can't believe you guys both wear the same ring......
-
Man those are awesome necklaces! Make any NDN jealous...... I'm going to have to start that one. I got lots of necklaces made out of kill.parts but not turkey.
-

Ha ha, my lab did the same thing. She couldn't resist the turkey jerky on the end of the beards. Looked like someone took scissors and chopped them off. I put the remaining strands in a beer mug. Turned out well.
-
Some real limb hangers in there. Yeah we're lucky to get anything with spurs longer than 3/4 inch around here.
-
Impressive

Don't make that mistake with SC people or you will have a fight. Mine is a Clemson University ring, the other is a Citadel ring.
-
LOL, it wasn't meant that way. I figured that must have been your hunting bud with the ring pic from two different user names. BTW, I was thinking the "C" was from the "Cocks" being from SC.

Hell no. I have an actual education

I suffer from " Spur Envy "

Very Nice batch of box calls on the table. A couple of them almost look like they were done by Jerry White.
Dad's Custom calls :dunno:

Mostly Steve Mann and Albert Paul. There is an Irving Whitt in there

Wow, what a bunch of spurs. At first I figured you had a guy with little hands in your hunting party :chuckle: :chuckle:. But man, some of those things are amazing. My biggest is 1 1/8" but no point to it at all. Came off an old fighting bird missing 4 or 5 tail feathers, my second Washington bird from right over where you are headed. Good luck to your group, and thanks for sharing so much, I bet it helps you when you get here .
-
Here are a couple of klickitat county birds i called in for my wife and a buddy from two springs ago. First is my wife's 1 1/4 second is a buddies 1 1/8 spurs.
-
My Washington Eastern from last year
-
Those are some great spurs for Merriams. I know it will never happen, but if I could somehow find a merriam that would go 1.5" I would have a grand slam of 1.5"ers. A kid can dream
-
And here are the spurs on the bird i shot a couple hours after i called the bird in for my buddy. Probably won't break any records :chuckle: I should probably add that it had an 8 1/2" beard and a full fan.
-
Here's a pic of my Teanaway bird 2yrs ago
-
For a Merriams, this is decent:

This was a fall bird a few years ago, I shot it the day before thanksgiving, it sure was tasty. I thought it would be tougher than my boot, but it had 1/4" of fat on it and was as good as any bird I ever ate. I watched it for 2 weeks waiting for the right moment, and on my day off, it made the mistake of sticking to its pattern.

I couldn't get a better picture, but check out the hooks on this one from this AM:

Here are a few of the nicer Merriam's spurs from our hunts last year!
-
You guys get some dandy spurs. All the birds around here seem to ware them down like crazy. I have never killed a bird that has points on there spurs. Always rounded off.
-
Dale, those look like the birds we see in Texas. The Merriams we kill in Nebraska have shorter spurs than ours but are still sharp.
-
This was one of my birds from 2103, nicknamed him "Tom Spurrier". My longest to date, an honest[/b] 1-1/4"
-
Hard to compete with those East Coasters :chuckle: :chuckle: Here one from a couple years ago ..Wish I would have weighed this bird ..you can tell he was a big one compared to those two 3yr olds hanging beside him ...Fever is setting in ...Gobble Gobble
-
more dandies for sure, boy I am getting the bug :chuckle:
-
What's the deal with the spurs? Is that like a horn on a Rhino as far as growth and maturity? Is it used for fighting? :dunno:
... you can tell how much turkey hunting I've done
-
Hey Bean, you're right - they are a sign of maturity and really come in handy when establishing who's boss. I've bagged younger gobblers with cuts in there breast, and on there legs from fighting. Spurs that aren't sharp will leave a bruise. Sharp spurs go a long ways when establishing dominance.

Now that's funny sheet right their now ..Do you count points on the buck deer you shoot :dunno: :chuckle: Usually turkey hunters take score too :dunno: :chuckle:

The SC connection got'em goin'. Good job trkykilr

Got to be very careful picking a good gobbler up ... they start flopping and you're heading to get stitches. :yike: :bdid:

Nice trkykilr! We have to wait until April 15th for our opener, I'm sure you know.
Looks like a good early morning hunt. I'm barely into the woods by 9:00 AM, but we can hunt all day. Several gobblers have fallen between 10:00 and 6:00, I'm just not a fly-down type of hunter.
Good work - keep us posted.
-
My biggest so far
-
Hell of a hanger congrats, gives me the itch even more! No more pics till we can hunt here :nono:
-
Don't go thinking all we kill are like this but I got a 1-3/8 this am
