Title: Long Range Play Day
Post by: rbros on February 21, 2015, 09:01:14 AM
Had a little time recently to do some shooting at distance with my hunting rifle.  Target was at 1417yds, 180VLD at 3150.  Load is pretty stable with 1" of vertical.

The top 4 shots measure 5" wide x 1" tall, I adjusted let the barrel cool and shot the last 2 rounds centered up and they measure 3" apart.  Not to bad from a 10.5lb hunting rifle.

The 180's are a great bullet. At that distance it was a perfect wind day. ;)

It was a pretty calm day, with about a 5-6mph right to left wind

Nice shooting Travis! 1" is pretty impressive deviation!
Talking with Jesse the other day. Will be doing some business come spring on the new 7mm.

But you missed the middle!  :chuckle::tup:

5" of horizontal is great at that range, 1" of vertical is down right impressive!

That's why I don't shoot actual groups that far away. I'm fond of saying that I can "hit" stuff way out there, just not consistently.  :chuckle:

Don't ya just love it when ya finally find the load that is in your rifles sweet spot and you can hit consistantly from long range.

Nice shooting and doping by the way!

Travis, you're sandbagging. That's typical of your shooting  and rifle building skills.  I've seen you and Jesse do that consistently.
So pardon me if I sit here and yawn.. :-)

You know Jim, it's better to be humble and be able to shoot, then brag and not be able to shoot!  Forums have enough of those type already  :chuckle:

Fur & hair is murder. Paper and steel is just for a zero. Doesn't take long to figure out who the real shooters are and who the "Follower/ hindend kissers" are.

3100-3150 depending on barrel length with the 180's.  ES on the 5 test rifles has been 3-5 fps.  Very consistent so far.

After reading this post, I was inspired to take my Rbros 6.5x47 Lapua and check my 600 yard dope. Missed the wind by ~a tenth but 3/8" c-c for a cold bore and 2nd shot of the day. Typical of my Rbros rifles.

Always looking for a better mouse trap.  The others work fine, have been successful and I build a lot of them, just had some more ideas.  This one came about to fill a specific need I had.

Travis,

This one definitely isn't for sale.  Its my personal hunting rifle.  The other 5 test rifles have shown virtually identical results in both velocity, accuracy and forgiveness.

Sorry, no case specs.  To many people try to copy things out there and call it their own.  Like I mentioned, this was designed for myself and a couple others to fill a specific requirement we needed.  The results were a little unexpected was all on how it turned out.
