Curious if the public ground around twisp holds turkeys looking to chase down some thunder chickens for the first timer
-
I think its mainly private. I don't recall seeing them much on public land
-
There are a few localities that have public land turkeys but as Elkrunner said most of the turkeys are all hanging on Private property...
-
Private for the most part. If they leave the private part they return rather quickly once hunted on the public part.
-
Jingles..I haven't forgot about you. I haven't made it up that way as of yet. Im thinking a May trip. Ill be stopping by
-
Not a problem besides not much going on right now anyhow meeting tonight about the griz, and other than that not a whole lot going on till it warms up a bit. Mothers Day weekend is 49er's days

I think you would be better off going farther east.
At least over Loop Loop.
I have seen a few off the private ground but for the most part they are on private along the river.

I seen about ten turkeys in the church parking lot, across the street from the pizza joint in Winthrop 2 weeks ago... that's all I got 8)

Yea that is my brothers yard and in town so no hunting there
-
If I was going to try it I'd go late in the season when hens are incubating and toms are more likely to travel further to investigate yelps. However, unless I had another reason to be there, I'd drive the extra time to east Okanogan/Ferry/Stevens/Pend Oreille counties where birds are much more common on public.

Unfortunately the way the town ordinance is written can't even discharge a pellet gun or bb Gun in town and No Hunting of any kind within the town limits. But where my Brother is having to go into the hospital for bone marrow transplant surgery and if he is outside and the tom decides to chase him or his grand daughter again I think there will be turkey in the pot......
-
Another question I have is how many ppl do you get roaming the public land around there during the turkey opener? Does is get stupid crazy?
-
Opening weekend is about like opening day of fishing at the lake. Damned near need a reservation to find a place on public land to park... Almost like the pumpkin patch without the pumpkin color.... That is why I'm working on permission for private property this year...
-
Try getting permission around Buzzard Lake :chuckle: Lots of them :cue:
