If you were given $1000 that had to be spent on a gun what would you buy and why? I have a 308 Savage and a Knight 50 Cal. Shotguns are covered. Would prefer something that would be used for hunting deer/elk.
-
the tikka t3 light in the classified's. :chuckle:
-
Caviat it has to be new
-
1. Savage model 114 (newer model with accu trigger); calibers would be .270, 300 win mag / wsm,
2. Savage Long Range Hunter; 6.5 creedmoor.
-
700 remmy in .300 Rum...
-
I'd add some money to it and pick up a lightweight mountain rifle in 30 .06. Probably
A Forbes 24B
-
Tikka T3 lite stainless, any caliber or step up and go Browning X bolt
Carl
-
I'm with Jr rebel.... I want to get my hands on a 6.5creedmore savage long range hunter.
-
I'd probably put some glass on the .308 I already have and buy bullets with what's left. That would be spent "On a gun" wouldn't it?
-
:yeah: that 308 will do.
-
Browning X-bolt in .338 Win Mag
-
One gun probably a lr rem in 300 wm, then a long range savage in 6.5 x284. Then a t3 in 300wsm . In that range the glass would have to be vx2.
-
If I was going to buy a $1000 factory rifle, it'd probably be a Rem 700 5r in 300 Win Mag. Already comes threaded for a brake or can and reputable out of the box accuracy.
If I could spend $1000 on anything gun related, it'd be on a custom action for a new build or a KRG Whiskey 3 Gen 4 chassis.

I agree 308 would do the job just fine!! Anymore I would rather have ammo than buy more guns.
-
A .375 something, I'm partial to the 375 Ruger. I can't think of a better elk gun.

$1000 might make enough of a down payment to get the builder started, does that count?
-

Andrew
Have ya killed any elk with it ?? Pm me if ya like
-
I'd marlin guide gun 45/70. I have an old leupold m8 3x I'd put on it
-
I'd build an AR in .308. Without the glass, $1000 would do a pretty nice job.
-
300 RUM would be my choice in stainless
-
So many choices!!! I like the 300 rum option as well as the .375 option. I have a 375 h&h and have killed deer, bear, and moose with it as well as an elk with a different 375. It did a stand up job on all.
I also have a 300 rum and absolutely love it too!.
If i have 1k it would be going into a rem 700 of some sort. :twocents:
-
Big bore handgun scoped.

:yeah:
Get a good scope
-
T-3 lite 300 SM stainless
-
these would be my choices 8)
.1 Smith and Wesson model 69 .44 mag
.2 I would add some cash and get a Winchester highwall safari hunter in 375 h&h
.3 Ruger single seven in .327 federal 7.5 inch barrel
.4 Uberti 1871 baby rolling block carbine in 38-55 or 45-70
.5 Henry big boy trapper in .357 mag
.6 again adding some cash a Sig p220 in 10mm
-
Too many choices. My head would be spinning.
-
I take it back, I'd get a kel-tec KSG.
I've been eyeballin' one of those for a long time, just haven't wanted it $1000 worth yet.
-
Ruger super redhawk. Either .44 magnum or .454 casull
-
you could ad a k and get a cooper then throw $1500 worth of glass on it :chuckle:

That was sort of my point. A nice new gun with no good glass and no ammo isn't worth much. But, an old gun ready for hunting season is a beautiful thing. Even if it's chambered for the boring 63 year old cartridge. Still one heck of an effective round!
-
Really since you want to add a elk gun to the mix any 300 mag or 338 mag would fit your bill .
-
Here you go. ;) http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,171381.msg2265521.html#msg2265521 (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,171381.msg2265521.html#msg2265521)

:yeah:
In 300wsm. Gives you about 100 bucks left over for ammo
-
CZ 550 FS, in .270 Win. Just because I don't have .270, I have them in .223, 6.5x55 and 9.3X62 and or maybe a pair in FS .22 and .17 HMR just for fun.
-
IMO your covered for deer/elk/bear etc and I would pick up the swaro binos in the classifieds :chuckle:

:yeah:
Just get an AR10 with a LOoong barrel and a threaded barrel for a can or a brake.

I keep checking to see if these have dropped in price. Seem to just keep climbing in value. Some day I'll sell my business for a couple million then maybe I can afford one :o
-
MSRP is higher than your grand, but I think you can find a Browning BAR in 300 or 7mm Mag for very close to that.
For me, I shoot lefty... This would be my next choice if I had room in the safe.

-
was thinking 243 wssm, brass would be a problem :bash: So maybe 260 or creedmoore in AR platform
-
If I were given $1000.
It would go for some more training!!!!
I have enough guns...just need to be able to use them better.
-
Id just buy the best scope i could for $1000.00 and shoot the .308 you already have. You own an outstanding caliber that will quickly dispatch any big game animal in Washington.
-
5.7x28, plus more cash out of pocket....
-
I would start looking for another late 70's Browning BT99
-
A .375 something, I'm partial to the 375 Ruger. I can't think of a better elk gun.

No elk, but I did get a raccoon with it once. :chuckle:
-
Cz 550 mannlicher either 7mm mag or 30-06
-
Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the idea of some really nice glass on top of the 308 I have.
-
borrow another $3000 and buy a colt python which in my mind the finest pistol made. mike w
-
Ruger 22/45 light and then a suppressor to go with it. I have always wanted one but have never got around to doing it. maybe this year is the year :chuckle:
-
Used Rem Sendero in 308 or 300 win mag
