BIG SKY COUNTRY BUCKS
After a challenging start to hunting through trial and error and crowded public lands in the Chicago suburbs, Stephen Lefaver is stoked to hunt whitetail in Big Sky Country with Brotherhood Outdoors and Bearpaw Outfitters, which has a nearly unheard of success rate!

Found it and set the DVR, it is 3 hours earlier, 8am on the westcoast tomorrow 3/15. I assume it is the same for the other days also, on 3 hours ahead of the times you listed.
Congrats and I look forward to watching it.
-
I'll be watching! Congrats
-
Just set it to record for tomorrow. Excited to check it out!!
-
Hope you all caught it this morning as it does not show up on my Guide for tomorrow or Tuesday's showings. We had too many things recording this morning, for some reason, so I said go ahead and stop it as I could record it later. >:(
-
it shows up on the direct tv guide channel 605 @ 5:30 am 5/16--12:00 5/17
-
I recorded it and watched it last night. Good show. Congrats.

I haven't seen the whole show so don't know what it shows. We were after a nice whitetail for several hours and ended up shooting a different deer. Is that the way it plays out? Did they show the miss?
-
Good show   Yes it did show him missing the whitetail. That ranch sure does bring back good memories..

I was good, showed you a couple of times. Really built up the hunt commenting multiple times at the large amount of deer seen every day. Said it was not a concern of finding a deer to shoot but which one did he want to shoot.
Yes they showed the miss and then the kill on the mule deer. Both nice deer. The cabin that they stayed in was awesome. I think it was a real positive for your service and you should see some reservations come in because of it.
Just leave an opening for your Idaho cougar hunts, I have been checking those out on your site. I think I might have to do one this year. I will send you a pm about that.

Sounds like I missed a decent show but no dish or direct or Television per se so no sportsman channel

Jeeze the snow and wind and cold brought back some memories for sure! :yike: Lottsa deer for sure and he made a beautiful shot on the muley but I didn't think it was all that big. Didn't look wider than the ears but it was a nice animal. As long as the hunter was happy with it that's all that counts.

It was pretty nice shot, dropped in its tracks. None of the deer were huge but they made mention of that also, that a 140" deer would be a real trophy on that ranch. My guess would be that deer he shot was 118"-122". It looked tall, I image because it was inside the ears made it look taller. It was nice deer and they did see a ton of deer. I think it was a great last day, last hour buck, especially after missing the whitetail.
I think the show did a good job of promoting what was best about the hunt, good people, lots of deer and a great place to stay. I don't think they were pushing it as a big trophy area. If you were just looking for an out of state hunt, great place to stay and see lots of deer everyday that was the hunt for you. Also when you see that many deer you never when a monster is going to step out. I am sure there are some on that ranch if you were really picky and covered all the nooks and crannies.

OK thanks, I was wondering if they showed that miss. Sometimes shows edit out the missed deer. :chuckle:
Sounds good the way they portrayed the hunt, I don't like to see something over hyped, we see 10-20 bucks daily and usually kill 4x4 or better that score 110 to 160. The boy in the photo below missed probably the biggest buck on the ranch 2 days before he killed the buck shown below, Nick, my other MT guide figures the buck the boy missed was 165-175 whitetail.
Thanks for info, I don't have sportsman channel so I won't get to see it till they put it on Youtube, usually a year later.

Yeah blast those porcupines :IBCOOL:
You plucking the guard hair dale?
-
Forgot about the porcupine shooting, that was great.
The other thing I noticed about all of the deer was they looked really healthy, big bodies on all of them. That may have made the antlers look smaller. The whitetail seemed to have long tines. I can't judge score on whitetail, just a mule deer guy. I would love to shoot a 120-130" whitetail. It would be the biggest one on my wall....whitetail that is. :chuckle:

I think 5 dead porkies in one day is our pork record. :chuckle:
We see porkies almost every day but don't shoot them if we are on bucks.

I'd say bodies are average sized northwest whitetails. The best thing about that hunt, it's not a question if you will get a mature buck, the question is which buck do you want to shoot? We been 100% for many years, it's an extremely fun hunt that anyone can do.

I would say this was exactly what was portrayed in the show and I would imagine that many people would sign up for this exact hunt. It looked like easy ground to hunt, plenty of game to see and like you say you get to pick the buck you want to shoot.....at. :chuckle: Nothing you can do about a guy missing due to buck fever. The good news it appeared that there were a ton of deer so you shouldn't go home empty handed unless you choose to do so or run out of ammo.
Did you ask them to burn you a copy of the show and send it to you? I would think they would be able to do that.
How did you hook up with them? They reach out to you or vice versa?

They were recommended to try us. They've done three hunts with us so far and coming back for more hunts this coming fall.

It wasn't a big buck and ordinarily I would have passed that buck to let him grow at least another year. But the guy said he would much rather shoot the mule deer than the bigger whitetail that he missed and we were watching for, so that was what we did. The guy is from Illinois and he already has a 160ish or something whitetail on the wall so he was more excited for any mule deer than another whitetail.

It was a good buck especially for the last day, after missing the whitetail and for a guy that doesn't get to hunt mule deer in his home state.
