Hey guys,
All this spring bear talk has me excited for fall bear. I introduced myself a few weeks back and have been following along since. For those that missed that intro, I am moving to Yakima in July for my wife to begin medical school at Pacific Northwest University. I am from North Dakota and currently live in Omaha, Nebraska. I am an avid outdoorsman and my recent passion is filming hunts. It's a serious challenge and one I enjoy immensely. Click here to view my latest film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01zakNntcEE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01zakNntcEE). I have filmed my buddy's elk hunt the last two years in Montana and plan to film his high country CO mule deer hunt this fall at the end of August.
The situation:
I will be living in Yakima for two years and want to make the most of it. Seems like the elk/deer hunting is okay but for some reason bear hunting is on my mind for the fall and at some point during my time in WA some salmon fishing. That being said I still have interest in elk/deer as that is where my experience is.
The offer:
I would like to find someone who is an experienced bear hunter that I can film this fall. When I say film I don't mean the typical hunting video of some walking and then a kill shot. It will have that but I want to find an interesting story/person to film that can be a great advocate for hunting. I would be limited to weekends in Sept/Oct/Nov. Willing to drive and split costs. I could put all the footage on a DVD for the individual but would probably focus on a 10 min video when it's all said and done. I would have a tag in my pocket in case hunting was good but the main benfit for me is filming experience and bear hunting knowledge. The benefits for the hunter is having the fall bear season documented (video & photos), filming knowledge and a new friend. :chuckle:
Anyone interested? Know any interesting bear hunting characters that would make a good film? Or does someone have a deer or elk season they want filmed? Open to ideas just looking for a fun project.
Steve

One of the coolest offers I've seen.
-
Don't overlook the fact that Black Bear season starts Aug 01 in many places on the west side of the state and the hunting may very well be really good due to this winter's low snow accumulations, causing the high country berry crops to likely come early. It should be a good year for bear on the west side.

What a cool offer! I wish I was a good enough hunter to volunteer. :)
I'm watching your videos now and they are excellent quality; ten times better than the usual hunting crap you'd find on TV with aggressive music building up to a stand hunter shooting a rack deer while pimping his dozen-plus sponsors the entire time. This kind of content is the reason I think TV content as we currently know it will die out. It's becoming so much easier for the general public to get into the filming game and produce professional-level results.

Thanks for the kind words! It is something I really enjoy and hope to improve upon last year. I try to do the opposite of hunting TV but it can be difficult to be different.

Thanks for that note! Looking forward to getting out at least once in August then.

Sweet offer. Pretty much all of my bear hunting is spur of the moment and inconsistent with bear action. But I will keep this offer in mind when I draw a quality deer or elk tag or an oil tag. Cause I am pretty confident I will draw one of each. Haha

Great offer, if you switch to the comedy genre, give me a pm and we can film one of my hunts.

How heavy is your film gear and how far are you willing to pack it?

Cool offer Mr Steve,
I'll send you a PM for introductions. I run a video, VFX & motion graphics company and have begun steering the company to serve more outdoor filming. I agree - the way outdoor television is shot & narrated has jumped the shark with only a few telling the story in a consumable way.
When I get around to it, I'll be come a site sponsor here.

Too funny! I was just messing around on YouTube the other day and watched that same MT vid. Good work! Bear hunting is pretty sad around the Yakima GMU's, I would plan on heading west. I'm in Yakima as well, if you ever wanna hook up and shoot some bows or get a tour of the mountains then hit me up. -Karl

I'm not that interesting of a guy but, there are a few guys out there with spring bear tags. You might get more bears on video in the spring, just don't advertise the blue mountains please!! :chuckle:

I shot you a PM Steve

Hey guys, thanks for all the interest! I'm super excited to see where this leads. I received a few PM's and have responded to them. I will update this thread after there is a game plan. Should be a fun fall!
