Title: aurora borealis in Oregon
Post by: Tree Killer on March 19, 2015, 07:55:04 AM
My first attempt at capturing the aurora borealis. Have never seen them before, but this sure whets my appetite for more! Couldn't see much more than a faint glow to the north, but the long exposures brought out the shapes and colors.  East of Dufur, Oregon on Tygh Ridge at 2:32am 3-18-2015

Very nice. Wish I had checked, but getting up at 0200 to check is problematic when you have to get up at 0430 for work.

Spokane weather service facebook page posted some pics taken by a couple of reporters from KHQ.  They were out at Reardon taking pics.  KOMO had some nice pics taken by several different photographers around the Puget Sound region.

I did, but I had to watch where I set up or all the red lights from the damn windmills were blasting the foreground.   :bash:

Those are fantastic.  i think I need a better tripod.  I tried some images oh, probably a couple months ago (time flies) of the comet, and everything was too shaky.   NICE

I have a BIG Gitzo tripod I bought years ago for holding my heavy 400mm f3.5 manual lens.  Has a heavy duty FOBA ballhead on it.  Big and cumbersome, but IT IS sturdy!   :IBCOOL:

I've seen so many great aurora pics lately, a trip up north is something I NEED to do at least once in this lifetime!

My daughter had soccer training over in Seattle this weekend.  We stopped by glazers.  There were some awesome tripods there.  Next trip it's on my list.  I've been blessed by seeing some incredible aurora, but have yet to document any of them very well.
