Ok, so I went to use the winch on my quad for the first time in years :bash:. Never needed it so had not used it. When I pushed the switch to "in" the solenoid just clicked. When I pushed "out" nothing at all. I bought a new switch with wiring harness and a new solenoid. I hooked it all up and now the new solenoid clicks when I push "in" or "out" but the spool does nothing at all. Any ideas?? I plan to do a little work with the tester to see what else I can find but it all hooked up real easy and I am further than I was before so I thought I would ask as I am certain there are folks on here who have worked with winches more than I. It does not seem like a real tough wiring system, so that irritates me even more :chuckle:. Thank you.

not sure which brand you got but most likely the contacts inside the winch itself are corroded up with gunk, pull the end cap off and clean 'em up.
I got a warn winch on mine and the end cap has come loose allowing the electric motor gear to spin without engaging the winch gears, need to pull mine off and see if I can get it back in shape too. Use mine quite a bit

It is a Warn winch on a Polaris Sportsman. I will check that out tomorrow after work. Thank you, knew I could get help on here. Hope it works. Will follow up tomorrow .

What KFhunter said, should help.
I dont use a designated ATV Winch myself, i just bought the Portable Winch (http://shop.westcoastwinch.com/gas-powered-winch-PCW3000.htm) down at a tradeshow in BC. Got a great price, and it is an awesome machine. If yours is unfixable, it would be a really good replacement for ya.
