Interested in seeking dog training help with my lab. Primarily for ducks but also upland. If anyone knows of any reasonably priced trainers in the wenatchee area that would be great.
-
Closest one to you would be Mike Taylor in Othello. Skyhigh Retrievers.

Maybe I should clarify, I would prefer to not leave my dog for upwards of 4 months with a trainer. Is that an option with skyhigh?

I'd imagine it depends on what you expect to have accomplished. You're not going to have a finished dog in 2-4 weeks.

Long Hollow Retrievers in Ellensburg. Only heard of em so i couldnt vouch for them but thats an option.
-
I understand that 4 weeks is not possible. I guess what I want is to take my dog to a trainer 1-2 times a week and then work with the pup at home until hunting season. Paying someone 500-700 a month for 4 months doesn't sound appealing.

some trainers will work with you to help you. I'm not sure of any retriever guys by you except long hollow in Ellensburg.
-
I saw them and sent an email. I'm just hoping they won't require to leave my dog.

If your just looking for some training tips and ideas there are some half way decent videos and books out there. Tom Dokken has some good stuff. Youtube is also a good resource.

I'm told he is no longer training and working full time

Here's a link to a page with someone that might be able to lead you in the right direction. We belong to Whistling Wings Hunt Retriever Club here on the westside and many people are very helpful in the training department.

This is from a couple years ago, but here is also a link to his home page which looks current.

Good luck.

I am sure most trainers will work with you one or two days a week but you are going to end up paying more.
For an hour of their time, they are going to charge you probably $50. 2x a week and that is $400 for 8 hours. Leave them there for 24 hours a day and they are going to get way way more effective training for $700 or so a month.
Ryan at Longhollow is no longer training dogs. I believe he is working a full time job as Happy said.
Mike at Skyhigh is your closest trainer.
If you just want to meet with some amateurs that might be able to help you, I can get some names for you.
Where did you get your pup? How old is it?

My pup will be 5 months old in a few weeks. He is a yellow lab from a breeder up the methow. Her stud she used is from tiger mountain in ellensburg. If you have names of people that would be willing to guide me along and meet a few times that would be great. He's a family dog and my wife wouldn't be to pleased to ship him off for 3-4 months.

Meeting with other amateurs is best.

Labs only point because they are scared of the birds

You may want to look into a HRC club. The Cascade club will be having a test on Pat Murphy's property (West side of Monroe) this coming weekend and a few of us will be there. Yes, it's not very convenient to you, but some windshield time and making social training connections now will pay dividends come this Fall...

Doug & Scott at Cook Canyon in Ellensburg did a great job with my lab. I'd go back there without a second thought.

i spoke to RJ at the sportmens show and he is still training. He has a one week class in June where you can stay at his place and train all day with him all week
