Summit Lake is pretty much northeast of Orient off of highway 395 or southeast of Laurier a few miles.

AUG 1st bear down!!
The plan went most excellently as me and my hunting buddy spotted the bear Friday night at sunset high up on a ridge. We went to sleep in the tent, woke up the next morning and found it milling around at the base of the ridge it was on the following evening. A well placed 240 yard shot was executed and the rest is history.
Will add pictures shortly.

Opening Day of Fall Bear season and I have been hesitant in the past to shoot another bear. I was due and felt like saving a few deer. I brought my wife and son (13 months old) up and went to a great bear area and found a good vantage overlooking perfect bear habitat. I used my primos coyote bear buster and immediately hear rustling 20 yards below me.I thought it was just a deer walking away from the obnoxious noise of my call. After about 30 seconds it still continued a steady pace through the thick brush toward me. So I thought just maybe its not a deer. I repeated another session on the call for about 30 seconds and could see the brush and stickers getting pushed over and I then knew for sure it was no deer. Looking through my scope I caught a glimpse of a shadow and knew the bear would give me an open shot at about 25 yards. I waited and the bear emerged from the brush broadside and looked up at me and I could immediately tell it was a decent bear. My only regret was not bringing my bow and using the go pro............
-
looks like some thick stuff. Sounds like an exciting endeavor.
-
-
Nice job Bentley . Why were you hesitant about shooting another bear?
-
I was hesitant in the past because i was not a huge fan of bear meat until my friend had me over and gave me some a few weeks back and I was hooked. Been craving bear burgers since. I also adopted the mindset that I need to do some predator control and do my part to save some deer and elk. If you don't or have not witnessed what coyotes cats and bears do to fawns and elk then you don't consider them another threat to the population. But I have seen them in action and there needs to be some control.

Fully agree, but at the same time wild animals are suppose to eat deer and elk, their wild animals that's what they do. If we had to live in the wilderness year round we would eat alot of deer, elk to survive as well. You are correct in that it is our job to control ALL animals though as God has givin us domain over ALL creatures of the earth.

Got this boar down in 448 Friday afternoon. I had not seen anything all morning despite seeing bears on every previous trip out to this spot. At about noon he popped up in the reprod behind me right as I was getting ready to head back to the truck. (Was about 4.5 mi behind gate). One shot from 100 yards from my .300 win mag to his shoulder rolled him and he expired in less then a minute. Had to go in with machetes to get him out of the waist high brush. Taxidermist had a tough time aging him because he was not very large (200-250 live) but had no top teeth left and has some grey hairs on his coat. He guessed around 4 years old. Special thanks to my father (rickomatic) and my buddy Todd for helping get him out. There still is a much larger boar I've glassed up twice in the same cut. Maybe I can connect with him on round two...
-
Congrats
-
Little guy from last night.
-
Hoytem is even rocking earplugs! Im just not smart enough to carry thise with me when im hunting. Ill wear them 24/7 for 2 months straight while im working, then deafen myself with a rifle shot in the fall. I think a lot of us can take a que from this guy.
-
Haha. I saw a guy last year late buck with them around his neck and thought it was a good idea. It was definitely worth it afterwards.
-
Little guy from last night.
Got him with the smokepole Hoytem? Nice work

Some of the best hunters I know are women. And you NEVER have to worry about being hungry with a good woman by your side while hunting. We need more women hunters, they usually are better shots than most men I know.

Best way to judge a bear is to knock it down..... Then measure! :chuckle: Looks like a good healthy bear to me though!

Great looking bears! Thanks for sharing

In my post asking about that bear,I noticed the date was incorrect. That was taken Sept 17th 2015,not that it matters that much.

Great job, youngster

My son-in-law was in the tree stand two weeks ago with his bow, anticipating some last light deer movement. Last 10 minutes of light he listened to 5 minutes of brush popping, and this nice sow walked right under him. Arrowed straight down, found her piled up about 70 yards away. Unfortunately, I was in Idaho at the time, and missed the tracking and recovery, pictures, skinning... He just started hunting 5 years ago, got his first deer last year with the bow, and now his first bear, and with his bow, to boot! Brother and brother-in-law helped pack it out, then left him to skin it on my garage floor. Something about having to work the next day! I came home to her rolled up in the freezer. Brought her up to Bruce Tadayeske at Wildlife Art Taxidermy for a future rug. Waiting for measurements. Nothing trophy size, but from the pics and their impressions packing her out, she was a decent bear. 1 1/2 inches of fat, and a thick pelt. Had their first stew, the grandkids loved it. As it lies!

Great bears

That's a big old sow!

That's what I'm thinking

Nice bear Stringer! Shoot nothing wrong with that bear at all. I like the white patch on chest, my sow also had a big white patch. That's a trophy in my eyes, and with archery equiptment! Heart was probably about to blow from adrenaline rush. :chuckle:

Well! Not much of a sorry was walking down the old road and was about 100 yards from the truck. THE BEAR WAS 10ft to my left running away fast. I mounted my knight muzzleloader and fired. Herd branches break. I see her sneaking around I fired again. Hmmmmm I done know if I hit her. I reloaded and she ran up a tree. I FIRED but missed. Reloaded and she is 40 ft up fired and nothing. I just can't tell. Walk back to truck to get help and reload. Walked back 10 min. Later fire another round in skull. Did'nt even move. I guass I did hit her. Hit her 4 out of 5 shots. Man bears a tough. Know how do I get her down. Hmmmmmmm well you know. Plus this is my first muzzleloader bear😀

Little late. I spend over 50 hours hunting bears and didnt even see one. My dad comes into town drove 5 minutes into the woods just messing around and this old sow was sitting on a hillside at 200 yards for 15 minutes just licking herself haha. Dad dropped her. His first bear.
-
Awesome!! Sounds like you should just wait till dad gets in town then go out with him, save you a bunch of time. :chuckle:

I got this little guy while hunting early archery season for elk. First kill period. I am 6' 3" 220 Lbs... so yeah probably should have taken a long arm shot for this guy haha
-
Hey, it's a bear and sometimes it's hard to tell how big they are in the brush. You filled your tag and harvested a great colored bear. That one should be mouth watering good meat to. Im glad you got yourself a bear, good shooting.

2015 fall bear. Called into 30 yards. Dropped it in its tracks with 300 wsm handloads before it could get any closer. Really exciting hunt. Long haul out on the pack frames with gear and bear.

Atta boy duckmen, electronic call or hand call? Fun watching them come in isn't it!?
-
I have both but due to a heavy load going in and planning on staying a couple days I went with carrying a hand call. Fawn distress. New the spot had potential and heard something in timber across a drainage. Hit the call and within a couple minutes had this bear crossing the drainage full run. Stopped it with the shot. Super exciting. But I'll tell you what it looked massive running toward me. Not as big as I thought but shook me up pretty good with excitement with my leg shaking so bad :chuckle: love bear hunting. Saw another this year that I first heard but when I stalked close enough found out it was accompanied by little twins at about 25 to 30yards.. So they all walked for another day.wish I could have gotten out more but was really busy this year with a lot going on, but made a lot of memories and even my buddy was able to drop his first bear which was awesome.
