I am having difficulty getting a call back from Michelle Nelson's Taxidermy. I have been calling, emailing and texting her for over 3 weeks. Also what is a reasonable amount of time to get a bear rug done by her? I sent her a tanned black bear 3 years 10 months ago, I was told two years ago she was working on it. Then last July I was told it would be done by Christmas, now she will not contact me. I am the customer and trying to get a realistic update. She has my bear and $350, am I asking to much to get her to return my phone calls? Any advice?

Wow, it has come back...search her name here and you might find something...

Here we go AGAIN!!!!!

Buckmancharlie, not to scare you or anything but a thread just like this pops up fairly routinely on this site. Same story different customer. Like was said previously. Run a search on here and you will find the threads. I'm sorry.
-
So how many times has this come up now? :bash:
-
Wow. Again.
You might have a gander at Facebook. She shows up there once in a while advertising on the Washington hunting page and/or the northwest hunting pages.
-
Man, not this again.. The next time I see Zach at Rainier Taxidermy, I think I'm going to give him a big bear hug!!
-
She has posted several times this year on the Washington bear hunting page on Facebook this year.

Oh snap.

You all are painfully funny! Sure wish I didn't live in Mississippi so I could visit her shop. I recently retired from the Coast Guard and sent her a really nice bear I took in AK.
-
She had one of mine for a little over three years. I didn't actually bring it to her but my taxidermist used her to rug while he did the work. Took a lot of bitching to get it done and I was paid up in full. On the plus side when or if you do ever get it back she does really good rugs if that's Ny comfort

It's just that this same kind of thread keeps showing up for the same taxi. Only real difference is you said yours was already tanned.
-
Great work ethic right there !
-
My buddy got his bear back from her a week or two ago. It only took her 4 and 1/2 years to finish it. So you probably have at least another year before you get yours back. On the bright side my buddies bear looks awesome.
-
I haven't had any problems getting ahold of her over the last 3 months or so. I can't remember the exact date I dropped off my Bear. It was after the first of this year. I have called her at least 3 times. Once she picked right up, 2 other times she called back with in an hour or so.
-
I hear she does great work. I just hope she get's it done soon. Here's a couple pictures for you guys and gals, hopefully you all get one this year.

She's here :yike:

That bear is kind of chubby. You'd think in Alaska you could find one in better shape.

Good luck Charlie!!

Oh boy, here we go.
Sorry man, I hope you get it back soon.
-
If you have facebook, look for the hunting washington state facebook page. I often see her posting when I troll on that facebook page.
-
On a positive note, you will get your bear back and it will look good. You may die of old age first, or instead of your kids getting to enjoy it, they may be off to school. Sorry you are having to deal with this and sorry she doesn't seem to get it.
-
I feel bad you are so far away. She seems to only respond to extreme pressure.
-
Good looking bear bud  Hope it works out !

Yep only another 1.5-2 years and you will enjoy your trophy.............
-
Nice bear - I feel bad for you. This comes up often, and is sounds like leadtimes are getting even longer at that shop. Possibly more work (and deposits) coming in the doors than work going out? :dunno:
-
Just shy of 15 hours, and only 2 pages! I'm proud of you hunt wa!
-
I would like to know, Why is she still in business :dunno: With this many complaints, you'd think the state would pull her license. But then this state is all about money.

I guess the real question is, are complaints really being filed with the State, or just being vented out here?

People that arnt on hunt wa everyday.

Bigshooter you may want to get correct information from trapperguy22. His Bear was in my shop for 3 years 5 months. It took him 5 months to come pick It up!
To the OP. . . .set up your VM and I would at least be able to leave you a message. I have called you 3 times and your phone rings for infinity. I have not received any E-mails or Texts from you either.
To the Drama Queens. . . You complain when I got on regularly to check messages, posted once in a while, and responded to threads such as this. Saying I spent to much time on HuntWA and not enough time working.
Now you complain because I am never on here. Make up your minds.
I have a phone #, an E-mail Account, and a Website with all my contact information. People can contact me using those methods if I don't reply to HW Messages. It's pretty easy to get ahold of me.

Most people don't seem to pay too much attention to the rare instance, but do tend to pay attention to trends. It appears that the likelihood of a person on here complaining about being given excuses to why they've missed the deadline they assumed when the agreement was made, the difficulty to at times communicate or for their patience to be running low, is greater when it comes to Michelle than you read of other taxis out there.
That being said, I've never heard anyone question her work. It is really good. To the OP, all I can say is keep trying to communicate, have a civil business discussion of what your options are. Refrain from insults or threats. Discuss business, do business and I wish you the best of luck.
I also hope whatever it is that makes these threads not so rare are soon resolved and the only things we read about some day is how satisfied customers are with both the quality and service that Michelle does.
-
I am sure its over whelming dealing with HW members :chuckle:
-
thats the problem! multiple people have chosen all your contact methods and yet no response! and it results in threads like this.

I would have to call BS on ease of getting ahold of you!!!.. This is the 3 or 4th rant in regards to you not returning calls from last ditch efforts of individuals trying to get there animals back from you in the last 12 months. I was willing to help cover cost to the Alaska Taxidermist you worked over just because I felt bad for him.
I can promise I would never send anything to you to have done. You might do good work, but haven't a clue of business sense. You need to set up an outlook calendar, planner, app, etc., so you can set a date and make it happen or beat that date. :bash: :bash:
When you do come on here your usually defending yourself as no problem exists. Is it the customers dumb understanding of how you run a business. Quite being so thick headed, swallow your pride and use these as business improvement lessons.

His name is Jesse and he is full of crap. How exactly did I work him over? He is the one that didn't follow through on his end multiple times.
He knew about the threads on here because "WE" talked about them several times. Well BEFORE He shipped those 2 Lynx and Bear to me. You may want to go read that thread to the end.
Why do you think he came on here? He read through some of the threads took bits and pieces from them to add to his BS sob story. He wanted me to ship those Rugs to him before He paid for shipping. Because HE was behind and his customer was putting pressure on him. He didn't want to wait for the check to get to me and then wait for UPS to deliver the Rugs.
So tell me. I ship those Rugs to him who's to keep him from stiffing me for the shipping? Which he still hadn't paid me for the shipping on the 1st Lynx I'd sent him 2.5 months before?
I still have all of our FB Messages and Text Messages. He said he was going to post them multiple times on that thread and after days still didn't. Because he was full of crap and knew it.
You felt bad for Him? Why?

h20fowlr, for having never done buisness with me and as far as I know have never had a conversation with me or met me you sure seem to think you know my buisness.
I think it is funny that 95% of my clients who are members on this site don't post or get on here any more because of the Drama Queens who have an opinion about everything even though they don't have any first hand experiance.
Only took me a year or 2 after Ray sold the site to figure out that being on this site is nothing more than a waste of my time. Most or the really good members we had have been run off or don't post because of the current HuntWA Mob.
-
keep spewing...you have had multiple individuals on here trying to get ahold of you in the past! its a common theme and that trend continues. Not to include ridiculous amounts of time for things to be finished!!
-
I'd still like I hear an explanation for the three year plus time frame on your work. And yes I have personal experiance with you taking that long to complete a rug

I have followed and read the many rants about you on this forum along with other forums you have been on and made the decision to never take you anything. You have never once stepped up to the plate and said you would work on or try to improve communication with customers or follow ups. This is key! Everyone that does a last ditch effort, ends up on a forum they can find you on in hopes public humility will assist in there efforts to get there product back. Many have bitten their tongue with dealing with you in hopes to get there bear back within 5 years. For us that have multiple items sent to various taxidermies around the country to have done know there getting bad customer service from you. A nice looking mount doesn't justify stringing them along. If you can keep duping new clientele into using you, than good for you.
Potential customers want to know what you can do for them and can you stick to a date you promise them. This is your word. This is how you build your reputation. Many good individuals have tried to provide you with good common sense, which you lack.
You always fire back with how it's the other parties fault or there story is BS, etc. You NEVER get it. Take a word of advise, call the guy, apologize for the delay. If it's a tannery issue again, let the know. Give them a ETA of completion and you have happy customers. You butt heads at every step of the way and use everyone else as an excuse for your actions. These individuals aren't coming on here for *censored*s and giggles to bully you on a forum. They have a legitimate concern and are seeking help from the hunting community. Use this as a training exercise to improve your business vs. calling everyone out that gives a damn. The comments might sting, but we all hate seeing this.
-
still waiting for my 2012 bear... I was told 18 months as a general idea of time. At 2.5 yrs and counting, I am not upset but sure hope its not too much longer.
I run a business with 20 employees, We work properties for sometimes 30 or 40 different customers in a day. One of the biggest key's to happy customers in any business is good communication. Communication helps manage people's expectations. I know what its like to get swamped with projects. If someone calls our office and needs a large project done next week, we refer them to another company as we are booked out till mid June for large projects. If they are ok with the wait we schedule an appointment to provide an estimate. If we are running a week behind in our schedule (it happens) we will call and provide an updated timeline. Sometimes people don't like to hear that there project is going to be starting behind schedule but it is certainly better to let them know than to leave them wondering if you forgot about them.
-
I also believe communication is key to keeping clients happy. I dislike dealing with the public. But that's the name of the game as a business owner. Don't answer the phone it quits ringing. At least for me.
-

Interesting.....there are no good members on this site anymore huh? Why, cause they call you out on your business practice? I am fascinated by this theory of yours that members who look out for other members are in reality bad people. That's a twist that goes against everything I was led to believe in life. :bash:

If she was a quality taxi like the one I use she would not have the threads on here calling her out like this.
Bottom line is give her your business and you will regreat it from what I see on all the posts from people who do. :twocents:

:yeah:
NEVER seen my taxi on any forum about bad business

I am curious how long it takes to do a turkey fan... I know at least one that's a couple years out. Tannery problems???

I guess my turkey fan is a couple of years out. No time to hunt this year so it will have to wait until next year, so that technically is two years out kinda. :chuckle:

My guess is he thinks this may be your first experience with Michelle and only being in three months things are going well. He may be concerned for what is ahead of you. If you have taken stuff to her before and have had success you are probably good to go. It is possible that your positive interaction so far is because things have changed and she is trying to be more responsive which is what I think everyone is hoping for.
I hope you get your bear back in the timeframe she quoted you and I am sure it will look awesome when you get it back. I have nothing but good things about the product she puts out. The timeframe that it gets done in relation to the quoted timeframe is what the issue has seemed to be in the past.
Good luck,
-
Rainier10,
Possible.
This is my first experiance with using her. My Taxidermist retired a few years ago, and she was referred to me by a friend that has used her. That is all I really know about Her. I have not had any bad experiance with her so far. I don't believe my friend has either, if he had I am not sure he would have referred her to me.
She told me that it would likely be 18 months, which is much longer than I am use to waiting. I saw the Deer and Bear she did for my friend and projects she was working on while I was there. I felt it was worth the wait. She did explain to me why she was at 18 month but not being a Taxidermist I didn't understand all of it.

I will be both shocked and impressed if your animal is done in 18 months.

I guess we will see. Until then I will not jump to the conclusion it will not be.
She did mention while we were discussing the turn around on my Bear that she was hoping to be back to a 12 month return time by this Hunting Season. Not sure which one she was referring too. I am going to assume Bear Season in August but I didn't ask.

PNW....
Other than the comments posted by Michelle here have you had contact? Any resolution? Updated timeframe. Did she mention the delay on the turkey fan that was mentioned?

12 months seems incredibly optimistic. I would think an 18 month turn for that quality of work is an admirable - and achievable - goal.
If she was able to do it on an 18 month average turn, I would be among the first to congratulate her on turning this trend around for benefit of everybody involved. Please keep us updated on the progress of your bear. Maybe even start your own thread with a positive vibe to it and let her know you will be publishing updates on here when there is good news to share.
Just a thought...

I think everyone here has been impressed with her work and would love to have that quality of work done in the timeline quoted.
My taxi is always a year out on mounts when he gives me timeline. Deer, bear and cougar have all been done by the same guy. Sometimes it's a year and sometimes it 14-15 months, I understand missing the mark a little. Hopefully Michelle can get to that point.
I really hope that your bear and the others that she is starting now get turned over when she is quoting, whatever that timeline is, 12 months, 18 months or two years, just as long as you know going in what to expect and she gets close to that timeline I think anyone would be happy.
-
I dont know Michelle, havent done anything with her and cannot speak to how good or bad she is.
At least HALF of the problem is the buyer in this situation. I asked around and visted several Taxi's BEFORE i even went on my guided hunt, and picked a Taxi to dropp my $ on. I looked each of them up and talked to people who had had work done that I knew or found. I wasnt willing to drop close to a grand on a Elk mount without doing a little research. BOTH on the Taxi and how best to prepare the cape so that i got the best product. My mount did take an extra 3 months because it took a long time to get it taned.
There are several threads on here about dissatifaction...
Research on where to hunt, kind of weapons and gear seem to take precedence over what to do with a mount.
Im sorry this isnt a pleasurable experience for you...

I don't agree with that. When members were taking items to her three to five years ago, she had a good reputation that justified using her services.

Its too bad this site protected her for so long by removing threads like this when they first started popping up. I'm sure it could've helped steer some others away from her "business", and prevented a lot of customer headaches.

the people 3-5 years ago if still having trouble have reason to be upset. All I point out is that due diligence in part of the purchasing decision. I have no problem with people calling her to the carpet, but I would find it hard to place all the blame on her when anyone didnt checkup on a big purchase.

You must have better luck than most... You had to call her three times within 4 months of dropping off your bear?

Pretty easy to tell when someone's home if you are calling from the same house.

Somebody start the popcorn.......

"Reasonable" is what the taxi quoted you when you dropped it off.
-
Not trying to thread jack but what is a reasonable time to get a bear rug back? Mine has been at the taxi for 20 months. Not Michelle, someone else up North.
Mine took 16 months. Taxi told me between a year and a year and a half.

A novel concept. Sticking to what he told you.
A model businessman.

Yes h20hunter. I have talked with Her several times since dropping my Bear off. I mentioned that earlier. Most recently was last week. I will be going by after my Bear comes back from the Tanning. By then I should be able to make up my mind on a rug or mount. Hopefully.
I'm not going to act as a go between. If she wants to respond to your guys questions she is perfectly capable of coming on here and doing it herself.
-
Nice, glad you are progressing towards a finished product.
-
She has only had it for about 4 months. She has 14 months or so to work on it.

Hopefully your still not waiting for it at the 20 month mark!

I've only had it for about 4 months. So I have 14 months or so to work on it.
I fixed it for you. ;)

This made me laugh out loud.
Literally.
It took me a second, but I picked up what you laid down.

i make payments on my animals.... They are done by payment. The more I pay the more work is done on it.
Thank god for him since I have 2 bears, and a cougar there now. If it wasn't for him I would never be able to have them done.
I am confident if I could pay up front he would have a bear back to me under 12 months.
I am not rich so I choose the payment method. :chuckle:
-
Just spoke to my taxi, and made a payment. I asked him if I payed up front how long it would it take?. He tans his own hides. That takes a lot of time off. To complete a bear rug from start to finish it would take him 2 months!!!

Its too bad this site protected her for so long by removing threads like this when they first started popping up. I'm sure it could've helped steer some others away from her "business", and prevented a lot of customer headaches.
That's too bad if this is the case.

That is NOT the case. Some threads did get locked, when they got out of control and there was no further information being shared. But never removed, that I recall.

How bad is that communication if you don't return your own calls. :chuckle:

I hope you e seen some of the hides he turns out. Useally hides not do e in a tannery are not near the quality. I've got a few mounts from a taxi that tanned his own and the hides popped on both of them

Hard to say. If he built himself a pressure tanner he may well do a better job, or as good. If he's good with a flesher the sky's the limit.
But....he might just do the chrome tan/cream tan home user kits....
-
I can assure he does a great job! Did my antelope, bro in laws cougar, other bro in laws 2 bears, and been to his shop many many times.
Also has done 2 grouse, and a turkey for me.

not sure the tanning method, but he said it takes 3 to 4 weeks to tan a hide
-
Depends on if someone cares about doing quality work or not, i worked for a taxidermist who tanned his own hides and i would trust his over any tannery but ive also seen the other way. Some taxidermist are horrible and take advantage of the fact they work for themselves and cant lose their job, even when they screw ppl over they always find someone to trick into trusting them. The guy building your house has inspections to pass and other people seeing his work progress, the guy mounting your deer doesnt.

Anything I have done the hides WILL BE sent to a commercial grade tannery or your not working on my stuff

. You guys take your stuff where you like. I was just stating this for time frame purposes.
At least I don't worry about the animal of a lifetime being lost in the mail or the tannery.
Local benefit to me.

Garth did the work on my Elk. He was recommended to me by a father son friends that do birds as a hobby many years ago. THEY said his work was awesome on birds and elk and they were right... That said I heard he doesnt do the work on his animals anymore... Or perhaps he just does the Finish work... :dunno: just what i heard.

We were there in Nov. dropping off a bear hide for a rug. The place was packed with critters in all different stages. I assumed he did the finish work, maybe his wife or someone else could be doing the work too :dunno: I don't care who's doing the work it looked good to me.
-
Oh he does awesome work, proof of it is hanging on my wall.

I don't think that was a fair statement by Miles.
Forum management tries to be as fair as possible with all members, sponsors, and outside businesses that appear in negative topics. Factual comments/topics posted by someone who is having issues with another member or business are generally left on the forum. If topics get out of hand with dog piling by members who have no skin in the topic, those topics may get locked or comments that are over the top/heresay/bashing may get removed.
I don't remember every thing that has happened regarding Michelle Nelson Taxidermy, but there are numerous topics on this forum that have allowed members opportunities to address their problems. After several complaints I asked Michelle to address the issues and after the members indicated the issues were not addressed in a timely fashion then Michelle was removed as a moderator. I again asked Michelle to resolve the issues with members, when that didn't happen in a timely fashion she was removed as a sponsor. I told her when all issues with members were resolved that she could again be a sponsor, that has not happened, so she will not be allowed to be a sponsor until all known issues with members have been resolved. I have recently been made aware of additional members who have issues with MN Taxidermy and unless those issues are resolved, at some point we may remove Michelle as a member altogether. In fairness, I am sending this message to MN Taxidermy to allow another opportunity to resolve these issues.
FYI - We get complaints all the time from members wanting other members removed from the forum due to simple differences of opinion. How fair would it be if you were suddenly removed from the forum permanently because of a difference in opinion? This forum will not remove any sponsor or member without first giving them a chance to resolve issues, that is only fair.
All members and businesses will continue to receive a fair opportunity to resolve any alleged complaints before being removed from H-W forum.

I locked your topic about MN Taxidermy only because other members are dog piling. If you want to post again in that topic just let me know and I will unlock it for you. Please read my last post when I locked the topic. Good luck, I hope you get your mount.
Best Regards,
Dale

message to MN Taxidermy:
Hi Michelle,
I have been made aware of more H-W members who are still waiting on mounts from several years ago. I am asking you again if you would please look back in your records and take care of the H-W members who have had mounts with you for more than 3 years. I have given you 2 years to try and resolve these issues at your will. I cannot continue to allow you to access the forum if you will not take care of these members. I'm hoping you will please resolve these issues so we can all put this behind us.
Best Regards,
Dale
