I do hunt in Montana in spring for black bears for couple years now
And only last year i got lucky :tup:
I do all my hunt NW ,found a good area last year.Thanks

i'll purchase next week and be up in the NW corner too.Thinking 2nd week of May depending on snow levels. Of course winter aint done yet :chuckle:Ill be leaving on 16th of May.Last year i was there one week earlier and it was still lots of snow in places. Good luck to you!

I still think the best time is mid May till the end of bear season.I tried the first day of opening...lots of snow.Tried beginning of May...not as much snow but still good amount.But its all depends on the area you hunt.Thats just my thoughts.Check your snow levels guys, there isn't much at all.
Lots of bear sighting already.

I'm down in AZ for another week or so, and this photo is killing me John! I'll be hunting from Gardiner to Belt and every where in between. Not a lot of snow in the paradise valley and bear sightings have become more and more numerous.

Missed a real pretty bear twice last night, still not sure what happened. 150 yards rock solid rest pretty calm etc snow was kicking up at the muzzle but I feel it was from the muzzle blast and not the actual bullet as it seemed to have a few inches of clearance over the snow. Very disappointed. lots of bears out and about right now though. I've seen 6 and 4 cubs over the last 3 days.
I went back 4 days later and got him. Small 5' red boar, but hes my first and I couldnt be happier. Took a buddy out yesterday and saw one right off the bat. Then the weather moved in. Looking pretty nasty for the next few days.

We seen a lot of bear sign and 4 bear. Only had a few days to hunt and got it done the third day. Not huge but my first bear. Couldn't be happier.Congrats
