If that's true, I have not heard that from any Border Patrol Agent I know. That would be all over the county if that was true. Not arguing, but just doesn't sound right.

best of luck to you, remember, shoot the one with small ears! If those ears look big, it's a small bear. Have fun and let us know when u put one down!! Tell your pops I said hi!

My wife and i headed out Sunday evening for Sherman which made for a long drive. We arrived at our campsite around 1:30am and instead of pitching our tent we threw our foam pads in the back seat of my extended cab which turned out to be not so comfy! After a very long night of tossing and turning trying to get comfortable 5:30am finally came. I got everything ready and she tells meshe is going to stay sleeping in the back which i thought was pretty funny cause the road was a little bumpy. After 15 minutes of driving I spotted a bear which woke her up real quick. The bear was looking right at us at 220 yards. It seemed to have a good sized head and the ears looked small and after looking at it for 5 or so i tell my wife it looks like a decent oneshe says SHOOT IT!!!(this is my wifes first hunting trip so she wanted some action ). So i found a good rest and dropped the bear in its tracks. My wife was pretty funny after i shot i could tell she was nervous and excited all in oneand this being my first i was pumped!!! Walking up on a bear is a liitle different than a deer or elk, i took an angled approach rather than right at it. When i got to the bear i learned what ground shrinkage meant. She ended up being a small sow (3years old i would guess) but that didn't damper me to much it was my first just not what i thought it was when i shot. One thing i noticed was thebig log i thought she was next to was actually 10 yards behind her so that is something to watch for next time. Judging bears is obviously a tough task and something that im gonna need to work on for next time.I walked back down to the truck to get my knife and the wife to get the bear dressed out and she was a sight to see walking up the hill. She still had her purple one piece footy pajamas on with neon pink nike shoes. Never had been on a kill before my wife was a little timid on being around when i started in but it didn't take long and she was asking what's that O what is that! It was a great trip for both of us and im thinking she is my knew good luck charm!

That's a great bear! I wouldn't worry one bit about the size of it. Awesome work.
You killed an average bear.
-
Nothin wrong with that bear at all!
so many people think 350 lb bears are everywhere and they just arent.
Great first bear!
-
Seldom does an animals size equate to the hunting experience when the wife and I are together. We have both taken some good animals, but the ones we remember most are average animals in spectacular moments together. Sounds like it was a good experience for the both of you. And a nice bear to boot! Congratulations
Hope you got a nap before heading home. That drive is daunting even with a good nights sleep!
-
Congrats bud! That is awesome, so very happy for you! These guys are very much right, good bear and that is the average killed. Don't you just love walking up on bear?? Isn't that your first bear?? I'm very happy for you, good job!
