Title: No more early muzzle deer in 382
Post by: carpsniperg2 on April 22, 2015, 12:30:12 PM
Looks like they did away with our early season over here for some reason. So just a heads up I know there is a few people on here that hunted 382 for the early season like myself.

I hunt the 382 late hunt.  Got a beautiful buck.  But it was always nice having the early hunt as well.  I wonder why they got rid of it??  I'd prefer to see modern limited more.  In fact, I'd prefer to see modern removed and bow/muzzle 2 pt minimum.  Been hunting 382 since I was so small my 30-30 would bang on the rocks as I hiked...

Here's my reasoning;  too much private land, hair loss syndrome, large amount of bucks with large 2 point genetics without eye guards.  I see many 3.5 year olds with only 2 points and no eye guards.  Should be legal bucks and they keep passing on the genes.  But they aren't legal.  Far too many spikes and 2 points.  Need to re-build the population.  The big ones are out there but I think the area is getting worse because of these reasons.  I've attached my deer from this year.  I love 382 and am looking for property there now.

Beautiful buck and one heck of a shot. How far away were you?

Good looking buck.  I don't think that is the shot.  I think he cut its throat.

Whats wrong with cutting his throat if you are not going to take it to the taxi?  It makes it much easier to get the wind pipe out when you pull on it.

The word I got was the modern boys were complaining that we were disrupting the deer and messing up their hunt!!! I also live in 382 and have noticed more smaller racks and larger 2 points with no eye guards.  We see a lot of Muley / Black-tail cross, could have something to do with it. Just my thoughts.

Yes I did cut his throat.  Old hog wouldn't die.  Mounting the horns only.

As for 382, yes I'm seeing lots and lots of spikes and 2 pts.  And what really is the bummer is seeing those big 3.5 year old 2 pts without having even eye guards.  Making them illegal to shoot and they will pass on the gene.  I'm not sure if they are true Muley's they definitely have the nice round and symmetrical left/right look but could definitely be bench deer.  Not sure though...

Rem14 knows what's going on.  He's absolutely right.  Muley's and Blackie's mixing could be part of the problem.  But I see a lot of older deer with big 2 points yet still not legal.

I used to hunt modern years ago in 382 as a kid/teenager.  Then switched to archery because it got so ridiculous around there during modern firearm.  Way too many hunters and a bunch of idiots in the mix as well.  That was the same time my dad started muzzleloading and back in the day we had archery and muzzleloader and archery together...and could use 588 grayback too.  Eventually we both ended up muzzleloading.  Better season and far less people.  I think instead of limiting the muzzy people the moderns in the area should be limited.  But that's just me...

Yeah not sure there reasoning for it. I always enjoyed it even though the deer number down lower are not as good as in the late hunt.

We kill every big 2 point with a eye guard we can. Lots of mature bucks that are nothing but big 2 points. It would be nice to take more out. Use to be a lot more pure blacktail genes and now a lot more mule deer with some whitetail mutts from time to time as well.
