So I have a one year old last Sunday, 2014 Ram 2500 with Cummins diesel w/28K miles... Yesterday the tranny had a complete failure and major slip, dealer stated it is trashed. This was while getting on the ramp to I-5, with only the truck no trailer. Engine light popped on and went to limp mood, could only get 20mph while navigating to get off hwy... Heck heaviest thing I towed was a 5,000lb boat. The thing is rated for 18K - I call BS. Stinks for sure, luckily covered by warranty. Third time it has been in the at the RAM Doc. DEF sensor the first time and can't remember what the other engine light problem was. My buddy has same truck with same identical tranny issue. BEWARE if your spending good money for truck that should be more reliable! Cheapest made truck I ever owned! Metal of the body is like a Coors Light can. Regret the heck out of getting rid of Duramax that had 287K... Anyone want to buy a slightly used 2014 Ram? 50K value for a truck, you think it would be built better!

G56

Dodge messed up when they stopped offering a manual transmission in their newer trucks. My 06 manual dodge diesel has been really good to me.

G56
What does that mean??? At first I thought it was 556, that I would understand using on it!
-
Yeah but yea got a sim card slot in the center console . Right?
They don't even come with a gas cap! Don't forget to dump in that urea.
I am sorry for ya. A buddy just bought one. All I can say is " wow it's quiet"
-
only auto I'd consider is the asin now for dodge, I'd really like a G56 in a newer dodge DRW

6 speed manual transmission made by Mercedes Benz for their medium duty fleet vehicles. Dodge uses it for the folks like me who's sick and tired of dealing with failing automatics.
They do have an AISIN automatic option to compete with Chevy's Allison/Dmax combo.

Might want to look in to the lemon law.
-
I think their automatics have been crap for years I have an 04 cummins six speed manual, and I have two uncles who have the identical truck in automatics one has rebuilt his once the other twice. I just replaced the stock clutch in mine at 100k no other issues. The NV5600 was the best tranny they made in the last couple decades.

Had a GMC. That I tried to pursue the Lemon law. Do it quick, don't put another mile on it. It's a pro rated deal that doesn't benefit the consumer.
-
I have an 06 ram with a 6 speed, no problems yet. It wears a 3K+ camper and pulls a 5K boat. I don't know if Dodge says it in the OM but my Ford said do not tow in OD, it will damage the tranny. So you might check on that.

I have a client pursuing the lemon law in idaho for the electrical issues he has had on the Dodge 1500. It is no walk in the park to get through the process.....get it fixed, trade it in and be doen with it.

Sorry to hear about your rig. Your experience doesn't mean that Ram sucks but it is unfortunate that your truck is a bum deal.
-
Ram just endorsed Cameron Hanes, or vice versa, so they must be indestructible..... :chuckle:
-
too bad they didn't offer the Allison
-
oh and as far as the Coors light can, Ford is the one who actually went aluminum :chuckle:

Should no longer be an issue with today's auto's. Older versions are a completely different story.

My buddy had trouble with a fuel sensor in his Dodge. Took kit to the dealer 3 times to get fixed. He bought a new 2014 diesel and already has had new ball joints installed with 8000 miles on it. ALL the ranchers here got rid of their Dodges and went with the Duramax.
I hope the fix it right for you. Do they still have the Lemon Law in Washington ?

dodge automatics have never been strong :bash:, thought everyone knew this by now? haha. I have a G56 in mine with a big boy clutch, love it.

Yea Ford went Alum for sure, but the outside skin metal on this Ram is so thin, I set down a battery on the rail to the bed and it dented, literally a crease- hence Coors Light Can comment. My tail gate has three dents - one from a fishing rod butt end -rubber end at that, another from lowering tailgate with only mud on bumper while Antelope hunting in Wyoming and a 3rd??? I dare you to find a new Ram on the hwy without a dented tailgate??? I got paint flaking off already on the rear qrt panel from rock chips and heck I drive pavement about 95% of the time... Again Chevy had four trips up the Dalton and two down the Alcan with no paint chips in same area... (Almost all drit/gravel combo roads) Auuugh! I touched my trailer hitch one time with my Ram bumper, of course ding and dent! Heck- I used to back my other truck til it sounded expensive and never a dent anywhere in 280,000 miles. Seriously disappointed with the overall build of the new Rams. It looks awesome, power of the Cummins cannot be beat, but jeez, crappy as heck every where else... I hope the tranny replacement holds up - but now I am going to wonder where is it going to break down next? Oh well, didn't mean to make loyal Ram owners pissed off, just venting on my experiences, as I know every make and model of any vehicle has some issues here and there, just I expected better is all....
-
I had a Chevy a few years ago and it wasnt long the top of the bed was washboarded just from leaning over to get stuff outa the bed. They all are beer can thin sheet metal.

Trying to stay away...but just can't. :chuckle: :chuckle: Hurry up and go trade it in for a ford or chevy so we can here how bad they are too!! There isn't a truck / car on the market now days that doesn't have it's problems. If they made them with heavier metal...people would complain because the power was lacking or fuel economy sucks worse. Is what it is.... :dunno:

I stand corrected... You are right! Drove a buddies Suburban with the boat over the weekend, heck NO GASSER in the cards for me- EVER! Wow, forgot all about the rpms going ballistic going up hills and man o man was scared when I stepped on it to pass and having to stop for fuel - wow! I bow back to diesels again!!!! (P.S. No matter how crappy the metal or the tranny is!!) I am finally over my pissed off attitude on the tranny, it is getting fixed and hopefully doesn't occur again...

G56
Until you ditch the dual mass flywheel and junk clutch, the G56 isn't any more durable than an auto.
The stock G56 is for the guys that want to play over the road trucker while sipping a latte and talking on their iPhone.
-
I think with the Lemon Law you have to have the same issue 3 or more times. :dunno:
I looked into it with a boat I had. I had outboard issues, ended up getting a new outboard under warranty when I waived the lemon law flag.
