Looking for recommendations for a light weight back packing tent. Thinking of an A frame 2 person tent for a single over night adventure for two as well as a tent to carry in my hunting pack. Don't think I want the weight and space of more poles. I'm completely green to the light weight back packing stuff so open to suggestions. I do have a pretty low budget on this thought. Will be a summer tent and early fall so not to worried about cold weather needs but will need a floored tent.

When do you need one?
I got one you can use and if you like we it we can talk more about it ;)
-
if you dont need anything with a floor a 10x10 tarp and 20 feet of rope work great, and it is super lite.. and its really versatile, you can do a single pitch or an A frame

I also have a little lightweight tent that you could use. Its the one I had set up and stored gear in at elk camp last year.

That one was narrow wasn't it? I can't remember. I need one the wife and I can fit in and for her comfort a floor is needed for the first adventure I plan to take her on.

I have slept two people in it before no problem. It just narrows down towards the feet but is wider and taller at the head. It has a floor as well

A 2 person tent will not be comfortable for 2 people 90% of the time. Most of the time they're too small. If it's you and your wife, then maybe you'd be alright...but don't expect room to stretch out.
What's your budget?
Have a look on Sierra Trading Post. Often times, there are decent deals there. Usually not top of the line tents, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're after.
Unless you're paying the price of higher end tents, you'll probably be in the 5-6 pound range for a 2 person tent on the lower end of the budget scale.

This may be an option to consider. Heavy though....

Good option if you want the "A frame" design but over $200.00
You can do a lot better than that design if you ask me.

The thought with the a frame was that I could leave the poles at home to save weight and make some in the woods with branches or rope tied to trees to hold the peaks up. But I have no idea if that's possible, I guess depending on the tent it could be. And the only other person that would sleep in there with me would be the wife so being close isn't a problem. Adam, not happening with you, sorry.

Well shoot that sucks. :chuckle: I camped a few times in it with my ex and we were more than comfortable

Poles aren't that heavy or space consuming. I'd much rather have poles with me than have to hack up sticks or rely on finding a place to pitch where you can tie it up in the trees.
I think you'd have a lot more structural integrity with a tent using the poles it was supposed to use. Now...you could use hiking poles probably if you're hiking with them. That's a good dual purpose usage. I always use poles.

I hear ya bean pole.
I might take you up on the offer to try it. But I also have a new thought in my head for an early bear hunt that you might need that tent for yourself.

Good to know. I have no hiking poles now and not sure I will, so I will drop the thought of getting rid of the tent poles and use the ones it comes with. Thanks!

That's awesome man. Keep it up!

Ok, got the tent in my camper at my brothers place. If ed or tom do show up for the wedding, I will give it to one of them to give to you next weekend.
