Found this bull moose yesterday while cruising the hills near Conconully. Sorry for the poor video quality but it it was further away then my phone could handle.

nice. I've been seeing more and more moose over that way over the last few years... Couple years ago, I glassed three in one draw.
-
I have been seeing more moose every year, some very nice bulls! Talked to a bio. approx. 5 yrs ago he said the pop. was large enough to warrant a tag. But was waiting to recommend a tag until the pop was larger. To be sure a OIL tag holder would see moose.

Very nice

We were just at our cabin in the Limebelt Saturday. Is this where you saw it ? All I saw was 3 different sets of bear tracks.

No, we were up off of the 37 rd. Although that limebelt area looks like it should have a moose.

It does have moose too. Where's the 37 at ? I should know, but don't pay much attention at my age.

Go SE out of Conconully takes you over a Baldy Pass into Winthrope.
What's limebelt area?

Is that the one that goes over Tiffany Mtn area then ? The other way is Franks Pass then. Geez, I should now this since I've been going to Conconully for 35 years..

Yes, that's the road you take to tiffany mountain. The 38 road that goes up out of the north end of town takes you to Lone Frank pass.

Where's Frank's Pass?
North of Conconully. On the 38 rd.
-
Where's Frank's Pass?
It's called, Lone Frank Pass, sorry. North of Salmon Meadows going up the winding road to the big clearcuts.

While deer hunting, a big paddle shed was found, several people talked about seeing a big bull. This was about seven years ago. When so many people know about an animal in a remote place it can be killed illegally. No one has talked about seeing that bull since. I've seen moose and sign a lot, doubt I would ever get a chance to hunt one.
-
Looks like the one that was going through my brother in laws yard in Mazama back in December.
Seen quite a few in the Methow over the years. Biggest fence destroyers made, next to two bull elk fighting!!!!
-
Even stranger surprisingly, there was a matched set 6x6 elk shedders found very near Conconully this past winter.

It's a WDFW area. Look for the Limebelt Rd a few miles past the Riverside/Conconully cutoff rd going towards Conconully on the north side.

That country could hold tons of elk if they woul let them get a foot hold. :twocents:

Now that would be awesome :)
Saw a big set of tracks way up on the 38rd 3yrs ago, just dismissed it as wayward moocow without much inspection. Oops.

Awesome pics of a nice bull. Fun! Can the tribal guys hunt that?

I'm not sure. It was pretty close to the 38 road and 39 road junction. Can they hunt there?
-
I'm not sure where they can hunt. They get a slug of tags though and have been getting some great Bulls.
-
We saw a ton of moose sign in the Chewuch this past week in areas we have never seen moose sign before. Can only get your hopes up for more moose tags someday most likely after I die.
-
Maybe that's the youngster we saw wading in Buzzard Lake a few years ago, sort of in the Conconully/Okanogan area.
-
these are Canadian Moose moving in from the North, much bigger than Shiras. I saw lots of sign up the 37. Yet to see one there. The only one Ive seen, was a young bull wintering above Blue lake about 10 years ago.

I understand this is not of much interest to most, but did you happen to notice what seed heads he was eating. Seemed very intent on one type.
Thanks

I'm not sure it's name. It was a short reddish bush. We've always called it buck brush but that is a catch all name.
