To those rifle hunters out there... Where do you find it most convenient to carry your rangefinder?
Connected to your binos? In a pocket? In your pack?
Anyone found a lanyard system that works well?
-
I'm right handed.....so rifle goes on right shoulder, range finder goes in its little pouch just back of my left hip...I can reach back, take it out, range the stump that looks like a critter for the 5th time, and put it back and secure it one handed.
-
Well I'm not a specific rifle hunter but I carry it with the neck loop around my neck and then the rangefinder in my chest pocket.
-
Right waistband pocket on my Badlands 2200. Reach back, unzip, bring to eye, range. A bit tricky to put back and zip, but that's ok.
-
lanyard around my neck, rangefinder in my shirt pocket.
-
I don't rifle elk hunt, but I do rifle deer. I keep it in the side pocket of my pack. I figure if it is far enough that I need it then I will be taking off my pack to use as a rest anyways. I do need to find a better place to keep my rangefinder for archery. I don't like it in my front pocket of my pants or connected to my binos. Maybe a hip holster type thing?
-
I carry my Leica around my neck with a short length of stretch nylon. I generally keep it covered in a small camera case. I've tried a few different ones.
-
I have the Alaska guide creations bino pack and my rangefinder fits in the front pocket of that perfect. Some people think the pack is a little large on the front but it doesn't bother me.
-
Drivers door pocket.....
-
Right inside my Leica Geovids........

:yeah: I keep the rangefinder in my front chest pocket with lanyard around my neck.

Same set up for me. I really like it.

Fhf gear range finder case hooked to their Bino pouch harness.. I personally love this setup.. I thought it would be bulky and in the way but I truethfully forget it is even there..
-
Lanyard around my neck and in my left shirt pocket, if I can find it in the morning though!

This... :yeah:

I have a bushnell rangefinder, it came in its own pouch with a clip, which I clipped onto my left shoulder strap on my pack. If I ditch my pack to make a stalk the attached lanyard goes around my neck.
-
Mine is in my binoculars, I love it, only one thing to carry around.
-
I'm a lefty archer, so bow in my right hand and rangefinder in my left pant cargo pocket. Just feels easy and natural to grab.

:yeah: 7x is about all I need for the jungle, sometimes too much.
-
Attached to my bino bivy. When rifle hunting it's attached with it's pouch when archery elk it's attached by the belt clip. No pouch for archery so there's less movement when deploying
-
Left pocket of my orange vest.
-
Right inside my Leica Geovids........
I am Jealous. One day I will pull the trigger on those. One day.

I was fortunate enough to be able to afford these optics some years ago and I'm very glad that I did so. They are, by far, the best hunting/scouting equipment I have ever purchased......
In fact, I bought both the 8x and 10x Geovids at the same time. My son hunts with me also.
Consider the cost of both a high-end bino and a high-end LRF, add a bit more for the conveinence of having both in the same handy unit and these Geovids are well worth the investment.
Good luck!

rh guy who archery shoots lh.
rangefinder is in my right pocket of my pants. I can clip my release on with my left hand and let the bow dangle while I range with my right before i grab my bow and draw.
-
Right here
-
I carry my rangefinder in the woods normally

I love it when I am hunting and I look things so intently that everything starts looking an elk. I range that down tree with sage behind it about 10 times because I think it looks like an elk, then when I see an elk in the area, I look back at the stump and it stops looking like an elk for about 2 hours....then its an elk again...
-
For rifle hunting I don't mind if it's in the backpack or cargo pocket. For archery it's around the neck and tucked into the pen pocket in the shirt.
-
We carry ours the same for archery elk or rifle hunting muleys, it's on our packs shoulder strap on a range-snap! It's a very cool attachment that weighs one ounce & is at your fingertips just under your chin & off to the right on strap! Minimal movement is needed to use & you don't have to worry if in a hurry that you may drop it, it's always hooked to you!

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I apprecite it!

I don't do rifle season anymore (had someone glass me...with their scope), but I wear mine on a lanyard around my neck. It has a loop near the end of the lanyard that I buckle my pack chest strap through during movement. When I get where I'm going I undo the chest strap and let it hang more freely.
-
I have a blacktail 154 magnet deal that I hook on my bingo harness above my binos
-
Lanyard around my neck that is just a few inches shorter than my binos. Or I keep it in my front pocket of blaze orange vest
-
Depends on what season I am hunting. If I'm rifle hunting, I carry it in my hip belt pouch on my pack. But when I'm bowhunting, I like my rangefinder on me and quietly, easily accessible if/when I drop my pack so I have been using the Crooked Horn RF Shooter. Got the idea from seeing Nate Simmons using it and I really like it after one season of use.
-
I thought rifle hunters carried them in the center console cupholder right next to the busch light.... :dunno:
-
Left pocket of the orange vest. If I have the big pack on it has a hip belt pocket.
-
I thought rifle hunters carried them in the center console cupholder right next to the busch light.... :dunno:
I thought rifle hunters didn't need them because rifles have no difference in trajectory out to 500 yards? :dunno:

Good point. If they're an inch high at 100 they should hit at 680 without any further corrections

For rifle the lanyard is around pack shoulder(right) strap with a pouch attached to strap. No worry if dropped.
When archery hunting its attached to my bow.
-
When archery hunting its attached to my bow.
Really?
-
That didn't take long. Sorry, couldn't resist.
1. Illegal to have electronics attached to bow
2. I don't bow hunt
:hello: :chuckle:

Internet cops unite!! We have a poacher!!! :chuckle:
-
I was trying to think how a rangefinder on the stabilizer would help. :chuckle:
Kind of like pulling a boat with no trailer. Sure it's illegal but the joke is on you.
-
Don't carry one at all spent more time learning distances can you imagine being out there with your range finder see this monster of rack and go to range it and OH crap batteries are dead.....
-
Just thought I would answer the question ,, Its in the third cabinet to the left in the pawn one store I sold it to, never needed one ,if you got time to pu one of those on your elk then doing everything else you better use you bonocculrs first and verify its not a decoy . :chuckle:
-
Pouch on hip belt of pack.
-
Don't own one. Seems like I already carry too much gear with me as it is.
-
In my EL Range. I switched to a rangefinding bino in 2011 and haven't looked back.
-
I also have the Alaska guide Creations. I glued my range finder case on top of the lid. It works great.
-
Don't even carry mine bowhunting these jungles anymore. Run and gun elk hunting the thick stuff I just didn't ever use it.
