Title: Question about calling for photography
Post by: Jarhead Chase on May 16, 2015, 12:43:58 PM
My father in law is visiting, and is a photographer. He wants to get some pictures of Tom's strutting. Does anyone know if it is legal for him to borrow one of my calls to get some birds to come in for pictures? We see a flock in a no-hunting zone all of the time. He would not be in possession of any type of firearm. I checked the regs, and could not for the life of me find the definition of harassing wildlife. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Typical of a lot of laws in this state, it depends on interpretation of the guy writing the ticket and slamming the gavel.  If he isn't bothering anything, there shouldn't be a problem.   If he is sitting in a statepark, theyd likely nail him.  If he looks like he is hunting an uninformed anti hunter will no doubt turn him in.   With the advent of the cell phone I am constantly being "harassed" myself because of a tip by a "concerned" citizen. :)

Unless he has a weapon I don't think he can be considered hunting. Call your local Regional WDFW office to verify, but I don't see a problem. Get contact info here: http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regions/

I agree with bearpaw. I can't see how that would be harassment either.

You can call in and take pictures of turkeys or any other animal for that matter and it is NOT harassment of wildlife. Shoot em with that camera everyday all day!!!!! Share ur pics!

I should try that sometime instead of posting them all on here. :chuckle:

There is a market for them. He get's frustrated a log though because he has turned the thing he did for fun into work. It's still fun for him, but not as much as before.

That would probably be one of my biggest fears.   I feel it sometimes when I am trying to put together a calendar, so I can see how easy it would be to do.
