Tyson (Primetime on the site) and his dad went over first on April 25-29th. They were able to glass 8 bears but nothing that Tyson was ready to notch a tag on. The country wore his dad out and they retreated for home. He called us up and wanted to get the crew together and make a quick weekend trip for the weekend of 5/16&17.
We left home a little after 4:00 on Friday and rolled into our camping spot around 12:30. After getting the tent setup and all of our camera gear prepped we hit the sack around 2:00. The alarm went off way too early at 4:30. We got dressed and down to the creek and up the mountain we went. After hiking for a little over 2 hours we finally made it to a good glassing spot. We located quite a few lone bulls and after about 20 minutes Tyson spotted his first bear. It was a beautiful blonde bear, but was about a 6 hour hike away and while we were watching it fed back into the timber. Then 5 minutes later right below us we spotted a cinnamon bear crossing the ridge. We decided to make a play and see if he could get a shot (he knew it wasn't a giant but not knowing how many more trips he could make it was in play). We relocated the bear but it was 680 yards away and the wind was howling. We moved down the ridge and made it to 470 yards. Tyson bedded in and setup for the shot with the RBros 7RM. He pulled the first shot and missed high. The bear ran 10 yards and stopped. The second shot found its mark and the bear tumbled a few times and was dead.
All that was left was the 4 hour pack out and 10 hour drive home.
