The Entiat River Road (FS 5100) 7 miles down valley from Cottonwood and around 40, square miles is closed to even pedestrian traffic. That area is roughly double the size of the burn. Most of the fire was low intensity; only 15% burned hot. Unless Ranger Flanagan changed her decision, nearly all of the Slide Ridge (GMU 246) on the Entiat Side is closed.
That part of the Clark unit (GMU 244) has no access because the road and the first 5 miles up valley from the burn is closed to even foot traffic. The High Hunt is "toast" in the Entiat Valley. Here is a map of the closured area:

Well young and fit.....how do you like this? It is ALL about control :kneel:
-
Well that is just predictable ain't it, hope it opens up for you muleracks!
-
if she gets it her way the whole valley will be closed
-
What's the reason for the foot closure? Afraid a snag will fall on people? I think some of their decisions are very political and not logically based.
-
All these closures, Maybe just maybe the heard will actually come back and have a chance in the most hunted GMU in the state.
-
Ranger Flanagan might just be anti-hunting; ask her at the Entiat Ranger District office (509) 784-1511 or e-mail jflanagan@fs.fed.us The upper Entiat is the only burn area closed to the public, with the exception of a very small piece below Hatchery Creek along the Wenatchee River (head of Tumwater Canyon; 9 miles east of Leavenworth; about 10 acres).
This is really weird.
Dan B. Glad your cabin is okay. About 12 cabins near Pope Creek have had their permits suspended. You can still access the North Fork and Saska Pass if you go in from Big Hill. Long rough hike to the wilderness from there.

Don't ya just love CONTROL under the Public Safety excuse!!! :o
Besides all the "greenie wheenies" making the "decisions" as USFS employee's :bdid:

The Forest Service (Ranger Flanagan) has finally agreed to host a meeting to explain the reason(s) for closing the Entiat River Road and trails.
Meeting is Monday, June 1st, 4:30 to 6:30 at the Entiat Grange Hall.
It is an open house format so you can come and go as you please. Feedback to them (509) 784-4700 or jflanagan@fs.fed.us P.O. Box 476, Entiat zip 98822
-
:yeah: I will be there, never miss a chance to mix it up with the Forest Circus :boxin: :mor:
They were supposed to open the 5900 road....still gated...but a FS employee told us it was OK to take motorcycles up it. They claim the road is closed because of heavy damage from suppression equipment...NOT, I rode the whole road, it is in very good shape. :bash: :bash:
-
March 29th was doing some work on our property and headed up 5900 road, gate was open and said it would be closed April first, made it to 5902 before we hit much snow.. Road was in normal shape not like they are going to grade it! Headed up camping next weekend see where the dirt bike takes me!!
-
5900, Shady Pass is in as good a shape as it ever is. They did a lot of work on it during the fire. Not damage.
For the Entiat River Road the biggest (far reaching) reason given by the District Ranger for closing the road is "There's no way to get people out of there safely if more fires occur". If no alternative egress is the new Forest Service criteria, nearly all of the trailhead will be closed. Not a precedent we want to allow. None of her other season have stood up to scrutiny.
Monday, June 1st, 4:30 to 6:30 (F.S. open house format) at the Entiat Grange Hall at the library behind the grocery store in Entiat.
-
Wow! That's the reason? There are forest service roads all over the state, lots of them, that if people travel to the end of the road, and there's a fire, that road would be the only way out. Geez! They might as well just shut down all public lands then, if they feel the need to protect people from every possible thing that Mother Nature might dish out. :bash:

The FS (Flanagan's) main reasoning to keep it closed is a term she used multiple times in a recent conversation I had with her, "Alluvial fan situations"
After the fire a heavy rain event caused Pope Creek to swell, which caused debris to block a culvert, which in turn caused the creek to change its course and over flow the valley road. Over the years, Pope creek has had the same issues and to my knowledge the road/area has never been closed for any length of time before.
It is really mismanagement by the FS. Heavy run off in this area is nothing new, fire or not. An effective fix would be to install a much larger culvert for Pope Creek to run through, and an improved channel to the Entiat River.
I firmly believe the FS (with help from the greenies) goal is to eventually close all roads that are not listed as a level 4 or 5 maintenance level. They simply do not want to manage them. :bash: :bash:
Here is what the Halfway Springs campground looks like after they turned it into a landing. :(
-
And then in a few years when they need to get in there to fight a new fire they will wish they had maintained them roads..
-
Motorized access.......Walk in access.................................................................. Does not matter since it's all about control which we should all be against BOTH forms of control. That's a very tough sell to many hunters unfortunately.

If you want to understand the nature of this Push you should read this book. I have, and persuaded several other members on here to do so. So sum it up concisely, the USFS want to "Manage" in a hands off approach from behind a desk in the office, not out in the field.

That is evident by just looking at any of the trails. The trails in the Methow district if it weren't for Back Country Horseman, Local Outfitters and other volunteers the dam trails wouldn't be passable

Jingles, I agree that there are lots of examples, and yours is just another one in the long list. How many times are our concerns deflected or ignored be cause "Its and isolated incident"?
I think there are 2 problems that are the root cause for the USFS the first (and most documented in the book 40 years worth) is the promotion quotas of those who traditionally who did not work in forestry or have the skills. The second is the ESA. Like MOST federal programs It has outlived the usefulness of its original intent. It basically halted the extinction of 99% of man caused decline, but now has been used as a bludgeon to push an addenda... Preventing Multi-use of public lands. The Sue and Settle technique used by Anti's inside and outside of the agency to push forth the environmental agenda without political review

Seems to me the best way to handle this would be to form "FAG" (Forest Advisory Group), load it up with greenies from the FS and a couple intelligent, diplomatic hunters to represent us on these controversial matters. There will always be disagreement...but there just might be more common ground than folks here realize. The group might just work better together if they have an opportunity to get to know each other on a personal level. After all, what have we got to lose?

The information provided was useless but there were so many people and it was so noisy you really could hear anyway. The point for us was to show a strong interest in having the road reopened. Now we move on to force the issue with the Ranger, Forest Supervisor and on up the food chain. There is committee working on the procedure. Probably will not require a mass showing like the people of Entiat and many groups did Monday evening.
The Ranger seems to have no interest in seeking ways to mitigate the risks stated in the BAER report. A review of the situation is suppose to happen soon and that should solve the issue because the BAER report grossly over states any risk to to the public.

So here is my take on this matter/meeting
1. District Ranger Janet Flanagan did not impress me.
Hosting a meeting about an important subject like this and she was not wearing a FS uniform (jeans & T-shirt)....VERY unprofessional. When I asked her if Lake Creek Trail was open/closed, she asked me where Lake Creek trail was, & she kept referring to Shady Pass as "Shady Falls" A D.R. should know their district better.
2. The whole meeting appeared to be set up as a way for the FS try and convince the public that having this closure is necessary.
Poster boards with pictures from other fires were available to view. Why no pictures from the Duncan fire? Because the vast majority of this fire was low intensity, and very spotty, nothing like the high intensity burns they had pictures of.
3. Their main reasoning, "PUBLIC SAFETY", Pope creek COULD flood/mudslide again.
Pope Creek has had flooding issues for as long as I can remember, happens every couple of years, never have they closed down the upper valley for it. My supervisor at work is a cabin owner at Pope Crk., says they have never had any major flooding that has hurt their cabins (which have been in their family for generations.)
If they were truly worried about safety, why is Silver Falls campground open? Silver creek and two other burned out canyons with unnamed creeks are directly above the campground and pose a risk of mud/debris flows that could potentially take out the campground.
From their news release: "The boundaries of the closed area were adjusted to open additional areas for mushroom harvesting. Anyone entering the newly opened area should be aware of the possibility of falling trees & rocks, debris flows, and other typical post fire hazards." So Really, they are only concerned about the publics safety below Pope Crk. ???? Public safety is an excuse.
4. The FS had a "lets sit back and see what happens" approach to this area burn closure. There was ZERO talk of being proactive.
Why not fix the issue at Pope Crk? Widen/strengthen the creek channel as it passes through the alluvial fan before it's juncture with the valley road, replace the current small culvert with a huge one, then strengthen the output channel down to the Entiat River?
5. A little off subject with this one, but, several FS employees shared that they too feel the environmentalists are the ones who are controlling what the FS does....So much for managing the forests for ALL public interests.
6. It was very obvious the FS did not care what the public had to say. They had an attitude of "we are going to do what we want, if you do not like it, too bad"

I'm sure this is the year I draw the late entiat rifle tag just to have Ranger Flannigan close the entire unit for my own safety. :chuckle: :chuckle: :bash:
-
Don't count on the Entiat, GMU 247,FS roads staying open if it snows; Ranger Flanagan is very risk adverse and "worries about us a lot" :bash:
NOCK NOCK They did suspend the cabin permits; who know when and if they every get re-instated. The Duncan burn was hot in 15% of the spots, 46% was very low or low heat that leaves 39% that was moderately hot. That is what the burn severity map shows. The photos show the hot spots.
Compare the Duncan burn with the Carlton burn. The USGS Post Fire Debris Flow Study makes that easy. The link below shows the Basin Risk for debris flows at Duncan. Drag the map up to Carlton or down to the Chiwaukum burn (near Leavenworth). You will see that it make no sense to close Entiat when the Methow/Okanogan burn is nearly wide open. Duncan is at a very low risk and no one is worried about an alluvial fan in Pope Creek.

I should have mentioned that you can scroll to zoom in on the USGS maps.
I hope all of us are beginning to realize how complete the closure is. Photos I took Monday morning at the Entiat River Gate and went up on North Tommy to see the burn.

What a bunch of BS. If it really needs to be closed to vehicles for safety reasons, it should at least be open for non-motorized use. That's just stupid.

Yes I suppose. I'm not even sure what the heck is so dangerous in that area. ??? How is it more dangerous than a lot of other areas in the national forests? A tree could fall on someone anytime, anywhere. We don't need the government protecting us from every little thing that might go wrong.

Yeah, bobcat just post a sign saying no rescues if you go beyond such and such point. If I remember correctly a wilderness trail previously closed because of fire a year before had a sign saying you could face a year in jail or $10K in fines--maybe it was more. BigTex could probably clarify that.

If a group called the "Wild Fish Conservatory" can sue to have steelhead smolt plants stopped, then why can't we sue the Entiat Ranger District over land use/exclusions?...let the District Ranger have to explain herself in the courts. I hate having to resort to that but this is the Feds being bullies...also, I think we should demand all studies done that were used in the Rangers decision to close it through the Publuc Disclosure process to show how her claims of public safety are false baseless.

I went in there Wednesday and Silver Falls isnt the campground I remember. The workers use a minature mini excavator it looks like a childs toy to move rotten wood and little rocks to mark parking spots. I didnt even ask why they locked some of the toilets cause that would have wasted their time moving rotten wood. But I did make them wait 1 hour setting in their truck waiting for me :)

This is all Crap.... Public safety my ass...
in some areas I can see closing some roads at certain times of year. But how can you close it to foot traffic?
Its our land

All federal land management agency violations with the exception of those on BLM lands are federal Class B Misdemeanors which carry up to a $5,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail. But I am willing to bet there is a set fine for such violation. The feds aren't following WA's path in requiring everyone who commits an offense to have a mandatory day in court.

:yeah: Done
As far as keeping the 5900 road closed....Well the Chelan Ranger District has already grated and graveled their side of the pass that was damaged in the 25 mile fire, Why has Entiat not done theirs yet??? The road is snow free and dry the whole way. :bash:
-
We were in the valley a couple of weeks ago to check on my wife's family. They were told that it would be five years before any Forest Service review of the situation.
-
Road 5900 (Shady Pass) road is in the best shape in the past 30 years.
They spent the last half of the summer working on that road. Ranger Flanagan does not want anyone in her forest; that is obvious.
More crazy news: She closed all of the roads and trail that provide a view of the burn. Garland Peak #1408, Shetipo #1429, Tommy Creek Road #5605 are all closed. Reason: "Due to safety concerns resulting from the Duncan fire."
These are on the ridge across the valley; not remotely involved with the fire. If you see how light the burn is you will be really pissed.
Check the website Entiat Ranger District, recreation, trails.
Ranger Flanagan can be reached at (509) 784-4700 or jflanagan@fs.fed.us
Forest Supervisor's office at (509) 664-9200 or deputy supervisor jkuiken@fs.fed.us

Remember DELAY is often the best tactic used by the Enviro wack-o crowd to strip us of our acess.
-
The more I hear about this the more mad I get. This is ridiculous. Flanagan should lose her job for gross incompetence and for denying the public access to THEIR land.
-
The real issue is the Closure of the Wilderness by blockading (gateing) the Entiat River Road to Cottonwood. Today, the Entiat Ranger District did update the website and all trails and road are open except those in the official closure area.
That include the burn plus 5 mile up valley from the burn, to the Wilderness boundary. The major goal is to get the Entiat River Road to Cottonwood open but everything should be re-opened.
Yes, I am upset too and so are the residence in the Entiat Valley, cabin owners, fishers, hunters and hikers.

So how do we get her decision over turned? I am willing to help in the fight.

I could get a FB page going, just let me know.

Here is the E-mail I just sent.
How about the FS actually do something proactive and resolve the issue at Pope Creek so that the valley road may be re-opened?
Re-structure/strengthen Pope Creek as it flows (should flow) through the alluvial fan were it junctures with the valley road, then install a much larger culvert for it to pass through under the road, and finally strengthen the channel it will run through from the valley road to the Entiat River.
OR do this (see attached pic.. Slide Ridge Sign)......It has worked well for years below Slide Ridge.
More than likely your answers will be "We do not have the funds to re-build Pope Creek"
I am betting that there are PLENTY of people out there that will volunteer and donate time, machinery, and money to get this done.
I look forward to your replies.

Got informed yesterday that once the road is graveled, Shady pass will be opened back up to the public.
Sounds like emails and phone calls have worked

You can drag the map over to look at the Carlton and Chiwaukum fires as well. They are far more colorful. :bash:
The USGS did their Post Fire Debris Flow study and found no high risk areas; not even Pope Creek. Even FS hydrologists confirm that Pope Creek is not going to have a landslide.
I wrote a letter to the Safety Valve (Wenatchee World newspaper) but messages and phone calls to Ranger Flanagan jflanagan@fs.fed.us or (509) 784-4700 plus getting signatures on the petition from access.entiat@yahoo.com It also does not hurt to contact the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest management Jkuiken@fs.fed.us (509) 664-9200
They need to know that we want to get back into the mountains. Archery season opens Sept. 1st for those big Entiat mule deer.

Never did get a reply from Flanagan.

Ignoring people is one of her traits. At the Open House, we forced her to host, she wore civilian clothes with no FS issued name tag. She did talked to people
when cornered in the hallway but did not really answer their questions. Very secretive manager.

Shady pass from 25 mile to entiat river road is open now I think. Opened on the 17th from an article I read a couple weeks ago. Correct me if I'm wrong.....I will find the post.

Here it is...it opened the 15th.

So when do the gates close again. Net time it rains, next snow. The Entiat Ranger District installed 3 gates in the upper valley and 6 in the Mills Canyon area after the burns last summer. Gates can close at the whim of the Forest Managers (Ranger or Supervisor); wet road, snow, wolf etc.

Hey guys. Help get the road opened again

Duncan Fire Closure to be Re-evaluated
Wenatchee, WA— The Duncan Fire closure area on the Entiat Ranger District will be evaluated over the next month to determine whether the landscape has recovered enough to be safe for public entry.
The area was closed based on the recommendations of the Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team after the 12,691-acre lightning-caused Duncan Fire in 2014. Portions of the upper reaches of the Entiat River watershed burned with such high severity that even a relatively small storm could cause flash floods and debris flows putting human life and safety at risk.
Debris flows have already occurred in the area due to rainfall on moderately burned areas. The most severely burned areas have only experienced light rainfall so the debris flow potential remains high.
“It’s been a year since the Duncan Fire but accounts of conditions to date suggest that there is little vegetation recovery in the most severely burned areas,” explains Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Resources & Planning Staff Officer Stuart Woolley. “However, we want to complete a formal evaluation of the area that can be used as a benchmark for future recovery planning.”
As part of the current evaluation the Forest Service will collect satellite images of current conditions within the closure area and compare those to post-fire images to determine vegetation growth in the burned areas. Forest personnel along with the BAER team lead will be revisiting sites on the ground to check the accuracy of the satellite images.
“We are evaluating recovery because we want to reopen the area, but we have to make sure it is reasonably safe for people to enter,” said Forest Supervisor Mike Williams. “To ignore the findings in the BAER report would be irresponsible.”
Since the fire, protective measures have been implemented within the burn area to reduce damage in the event of floods and debris flows. Culverts are being removed and drainages are being built to keep roads from washing out. Culverts that recently have been removed were already partially plugged with debris, contributing to build up of additional debris and failure. This work is not intended to permanently close roads or eliminate access to the area but to protect the road systems.
A much larger area adjacent to the east and north sides of the Duncan Fire closure has been temporarily closed due to fire activity and firefighter operations on the Wolverine and Blankenship Fires. View the full closure map at http://go.usa.gov/3sMyj. This temporary closure will limit access to areas west of Lake Chelan to the Entiat River and from Big Creek north to Company Creek in the Glacier Peak Wilderness towards Lyman Lake. Lyman Lake can still be accessed on Phelps Creek Trail 1511. Much of Glacier Peak Wilderness can still be accessed from the Wenatchee River Ranger District and the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Call local ranger district offices for assistance in planning your visit near these areas.

Here are two pics, #1 is the 5901 road off Shady pass, huge Kelly hump.....Not going to close any roads huh? :bash:
#2 is a pic of the gate at the junction of Shady Pass & 25 mile creek road. When they did finally open Shady pass, at least they could have picked up all the surveyor tape they used to block off motorcycles from going around the gate. This is nothing less than littering by the FS themselves.

Only a couple weeks until high buck, wonder what the chances are we will be able to get to Ice Lakes or Larch Lakes? Is the entire area burned or closed or what?
-
All Burnt and all closed. Deer hunting is probably not gonna happen in the valley this year. IMHO
-
Is that the area they offered a ton of extra doe permits after a fire last year?
-
Nope. May be thinking of Carlton fire...Methow
-
Given current fire activity no one is getting into the upper Entiat this year, or maybe even chiwawa.
-
Your welcome to hunt NW trek this year. :chuckle:
-
Roads have road closed signs all over. Do some homework...........lots of people don't do enough of it haha.. you would be able to get in!
:brew: :brew:
-
:dunno: :yeah: :dunno:
Not sure what your saying here. I do my homework, and your post makes sense for the lower valley areas, but this thread is talking about the UPPER Entiat valley, It is closed by a "forest order"....The only way your getting in there is being a FS related employee or illegally. :bdid:
-
Good news Flanagan retired this week.
-
:yeah: As of today I believe. Seems kinda young to have retired, maybe she was canned and they are saying that to be nice to her.:dunno:
Good riddance.
They have not selected anyone to replace her yet. Hope the new ranger they assign at least will learn/know the district.
-
Best news in a long time
-
Ha pretty weird timing I think too. The guy taking her place while the search for a replacement is a good local entiat valley guy. But he is to perfect for the job so they probably won't give him the full time spot.
-
I believe that the Entiat Ranger District has appointed an interim Ranger by the name of Randy Whitehall. He has been working in the Chelan Ranger District, lives in the Entiat Valley and is very well respected by local residence. Forest Supervisor Mike Williams has made a great selection; one that will help to heal wounds opened by the previous ranger. Her retirement party is Friday, 9/4. I will not be attending.
-
Heck yeah, awesome news... Hope he gets appointed for good!
-
Sound like things might turn around now, very good news!
-
Nice! Is the new guy a hunter? Maybe he will open it up if it rains
-
So the FS reasoning to keep the upper valley closed is public danger from mud/debris slides. (folks getting trapped) SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY
This year the 1st Creek fire has burned the entire south shore all the way to 25mile creek, and there are hundreds of vacation & permenant homes along this stretch which also includes a well documented slide area (Slide Ridge)
Applying the FS BAER reasoning to this fire area, would lead one to believe that this area would also be closed due to extreme danger from mud/debris slides. Think again.
From Inciweb....
"Because of the burn severity in many areas of the First Creek Fire, it is extremely important that residents who may be returning to the area be exceptionally aware of the possibility of mudslides following any rain events."
SAFETY????? MONEY MONEY MONEY
Pretty sure we all know this area will not be closed to access.
-
Slide Ridge; the name tells you something and mud flows do occur off the ridge (fire or not) but don't worry. They can't close the entire recreation area up lake from the State Park. Sure bet the Entiat, Pope Creek homes will be occupied next spring if not sooner. It is raining.
-
So, tell me if what I heard was wrong.......The ranger gal is no longer in the picture and went adios. Replaced with about as good of choice as a hunter could ask for. Won't post the name until confirmed what I heard is true. Happened a week or so ago. :dunno:

I knew she was going to retire since last year. The guy who is replacing her for the moment is a fir guy out of the s.o.

The new Entiat District Ranger took over last Sunday (Sept. 4). It is not a permanent replacement but he is expected to apply as one of the candidates when the position is opened up. It will be at least 4 months before a permanent Ranger is selected. Randy Whitehall is the temp. ranger. He has been working the Chelan District, lives in the Entiat Valley, knows the area extremely well. He seems to believes in the USDA Forest Service goal of providing recreational opportunities to the public.
The current closure should be reduced once the fires are out.
-
Here is a link to the current closure which includes the Chiwawa River and much of the Entiat Valley.

Entiat Ranger District News Release:
"A post-fire community meeting has been scheduled for November 30th at 6:00 p.m., being held at the Entiat Fire Station, 2200 Entiat Way. Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team leader Molly Hanson will present information from the BAER report that affects the Entiat Valley."
I have read a summary of the report, Not good........Anyone wanna bet the Forest Circus will keep ALL upper valley campgrounds (and probably most roads) closed in 2016???
I find it rather ironic that with all their talk of debris/mud flows happening in the fire area.......the current rock slide was no where near a fire area. Gee them BAER folks sure are smart.
Give em time and they will put a big ol gate across the valley and close it for good......then scratch their heads and wonder why they no longer have a job. :bash: :bash: :bash:
Rant Over!!
-
your not going to like this. They already have that big metal gate up right at the sno park.
-
not surprised
-
It has always been our right to risk our lives in wild country as we see fit. I am infuriated at the extension of the nanny state mentality to the ability of adult taxpayers to choose to recreate in wild country and assume those risks for themselves and their children. Get ready for a push to exclude bearing arms on all federal property for "safety".
-
Double Lung is right on; we don't need the Forest Service holding our hand in the out of doors. Hopefully, the new Forest Supervisor will allow us to enjoy our national Forests.
Entiat Meeting, Monday, Nov. 30th at 6pm at the new Entiat Fire Hall located just above the Forest Service offices in town. The BAER (Burned Area Emergency Response) team is ready to share their plans for the Entiat/Holden/Lucerne (65,000) burn. They did release a summary of their findings. linked here:

The meeting is open to the public and this is our National Forest

This is exactly right! So are taxes will be lower since we are not aloud access to this land that we pay taxes on, correct?!

They really came up with a plan :'(
-
What is the plan they proposed? And do we know if this is final?
-
Close all the campgrounds for 3 to 5 years and temporarily remove the bridge at cottonwood.
-
That is a waste of money, is the upper valley going to be open atleast?
-
If they take that bridge out I think a little motocross double is in order to clear it on a dirtbike :-)
-
There current Closure Orders call for a complete closure from mile post 31; so the upper 22 miles of the Entiat Valley are closed. No hiking, mushroom picking, hunting, nothing in the closure which is the entire upper valley.
We can challenge the closure with letters to Supervisor Williams at the Wenatchee OWL office and Jim Pena at Portland's Region 6 office. The local Entiat group called Access Entiat is up in arms following the BAER meeting on Nov. 30 at Entiat.
-
Thanks mule racks, I know the closure order was just making a joke... I will definitely write a few letters. With all the rain we had October/November if anything that wasn't stable enough would have come down or did come down. And hoping we get a heavy snowpack this year to "stabilize" things more. There has been lives lost in the valley from slides/floods but it's the nature of a valley, some threat will always be there.. It isn't right to deny us access. At the very least, til it's stable enough to reopen for camping let us access it from current closure boundaries such as a true wilderness should similar to a Bob Marshall wilderness per say for that time but install plans to reopen it later for easier access
-
Heard last night that a new District Ranger has been picked for the Entiat. It's not Whitehall, a guy from Arizona is what I heard.
-
Forest Supervisor Mike Williams is from AZ; wish you were wrong about the Entiat District Ranger come up from down there too.
Randy Whitehall did a great job as the District Ranger for the few months he served. Maybe the Entiat will never get reopened without a fight.
-
FYI, Upper Entiat area is set to open Friday 6-23-17. Not sure about side roads yet.
-
That is awesome news!

That area hasn't seen a deer season or legal hunting pressure in what, 4 years?
-
Finally both the Entiat Trailhead (Cottonwood) and the Entiat North Fork trailheads are open and the trails are not maintained but are open to the public.
They have been closed since 2014. The Wolverine fire of 2015 has caused some changes. Here are some Google Earth images.
-
Hope everything's open and looking healthy. Headed that way this weekend.

Hope you had a nice hike in the upper Entiat. The trails are open but trails are hard to follow in places and the logs have not been cleared (in the areas where there are logs. The trees killed in the 2006 Wilderness fire mostly burned away in the 2015 Wolverine fire. 22 miles of the upper valley burned in 2015. None of the trails have been maintained since 2013; some work is being done this summer but........... (no chainsaws)
