im looking at buying a new .22 and was wondering peoples opinion on whats the best bang for the buck?
i would like to stay mid 400 or lower price range. i was looking at the t/c r-55 benchmade and was wondering what some of the more experienced shooters think.
all help is appreciated

I have a CZ 452 Ultra Lux, and i love it! Heres a link to the one i have. http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=85697 (http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=85697)
-
yah i was definately looking at the cz's but i guess i should mention perferably semi auto
-
Mines a 10rd bolt action.
-
T/C top notch quality and accuracy. If looking for more then a plinker or a pure target then that would be the one. Find a Win 52 or an older Rem bolt and they will outshoot just about anything.
-
I'll second T/C. But if you want to spend some money you really should get an anshutz(sp?) I have one and it is a tack driver! It is a sporter with a match grade chamber.
-
My family uses ruger 10/22 and they seem to be pretty accurate for a 22. The rugers have a huge after market too.

ive killed lots of stuff with my ruger 10/22. I dont know if it is the best in the world but it is a killing machine.
-
Depends on what your after. Ruger10/22 pretty hard to beat. Good accuracy, great aftermarket options. There are more accurate out there but you have to justify the price tag. All said & done if your not competition shooting, the Ruger is my choice. :twocents:
-
yeah, kinda depends on what your gonna use it for. i loooooooove my ruger 10/22 with 25rd banana clip, its been used and abused. but still wacks the sage rats from fare away. i have put alot of bullets through that barrel, and cleaned it very few times.... once it starts jamming after a brick or 2 of 500 rds then its time to clean, lol
-
heres my old girl, got the 25 rd clip for like $15 at bi-mart, and the stock for $30 on e-bay.... fun toy

I gotta agree with the 10/22; have had one since high school. Actually it was my brothers, but he kept leaving it laying outside or in the dirt so I took it away from him.
-
i've got 3 10/22's. one's got a anschutz stock, bull barrel, internal work and a nice scope and shoots one ragged hole at 25-50 yards. the factory guns shoot too. you can't go wrong for <$200.00 . if you want something a little more fancy, the ruger 77/22 is nice and kimber makes a real nice .22 also.
-
i think 10/22's are suppose to shoot 1" groups right out of the box... is what ive heard
-
I love my 10/22!! seems to be accurate to me!!
-
GSG-5; MP5 clone in .22

-
I have a few 10/22's that have been modded, aftermarket barrels, bolts, headspaced, and none will shoot with my bolt action CZ.
I have no experience with the TC, but it looks like a winner.
Maybe shop for a Volquartsen 10/22.
If you want to burn ammo at pop cans, 10/22.
If you want to shoot tiny groups, there are other ideas.
-
this is harder than i though it would be to choose haha, i appreciate all the help, i want the best of both worlds i want a plinker and a tack driver at the same time, im gonna compare the 10/22-T and the t/c's and go from there
-
Lately ive been shooting a lot out of a 22lr and 22mag both chambered in a CZ bolt action. gotta say i really like them.
then ruger 22lr pistols. couple of those on my to-do list.
jeese that list is getting long.......
-
Rugers are pretty accurate right out of the box but they need a brick or two ran through them to get cycling reliably.
-
i like those stingers, they make a cool sound, and they smell good... lol
-
I've owned a coupkle different 10/22's over the years, and the only time I ever missed what I was shooting at with one of them, it wasn't the gun's fault. They shoot plenty good for anything you may want to shoot with a 22lr, unless your counting X-rings.
-
yah i think it has pretty much come down to a 10/22 with a heavy barrel thanks for all the help and suggestions
-
i would get stainless, its probably worth the $. that the only thing i wish i had different on mine.
-
CP, how many yards out were you shooting that 10/22? clean looking gun by the way...

problem with the bluing?
-
I used to shoot match .22's for a little while. My dad was into it too. I had the opportunity to shoot LOTS of tricked out customs. With that, a ruger 10/22 can't even compare, but for the coin, they are fun guns. I actually had this link emailed to me this morning of a cool 10/22 site.

10/22
-
I think 10/22s or overrated, my dad has one, and it jams all the time, and I do take good care of it. I like lever actions, whether its Winchester or Henry, lever actions are good, and and fun to shoot.

somethings wrong with it or you're shooting cheap ammo as fast as you can pull the trigger.
-
Something might be wrong with it, but we were shooting CCI stingers and the Federal value pack so that isnt too cheap
-
There must be something wrong with it. I have shot well over 500 rounds with out clean mine and it never missed a lick, same with the other 4 in my family. I have an Old marlin mod 60 that jams and it has a bent spring in it that I think is making it jam, you might want to look it over. :twocents:
-
i've got three of them and none jam.
check out rimfirecentral.com....maybe if you look around you might get some ideas where to look. i don't know what to tell you. i've never had a problem. what kind of clips are you using? sometimes they'll cause problems too especially the cheapy plastic ones that are available.
-
I have had mine for about 10 years and have never cleaned it.....I know neglected but it doesnt care :chuckle: few thousnad rounds through it and have never had a jam.......

I am using the factory 10 rd. mags.
-
I had one clip that was old......spring wore out on it and it would cause jams...I just remebered that

my 10/22 jams about 1 out of 15 shots, it's done this since I bought it new at Bi-mart 10 yrs ago, i have tried all the brands of ammo out there, and nothing seems to help.
my brother bought his 10/22 when i bought mine, he bought the same scope and ammo also, unlike my 10/22 his fired fine out of the box and has never had more than a couple jams in 10yrs, hell when we would go shooting our 10/22's half the time he would shoot his gun and the other half the time he would be laughing at me because I got a P.O.S and am always trying to get the gun unjamed.

10/22 - Awesome and Affordable!

I also purchased one new that would jam all the time. It didn't matter what kind of ammo I used. I got rid of it. I do have a Weatherby MarkXX11 Auto. I purchased it around 1980? They don't make them anymore. :) They make a bolt action thou.
-
as a kid i had a Lever action 22 and later on a pump 22 that my Uncle has now (that i want to buy back) nowdays i have three 22 rifles, Bolt model 25, two model 60 marlins.
I want a Ruger next so i can play with it and make it a custom as many other ruger owners have done.
-
IMHO, Best gun out of the box is the Remington 597. I have the 22 Mag version with a Nikon 4x12 and it will shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yds all day. I also have a 10/22 with Heavy barrel and it'll do great at 50 yds with CCI Greentag ammo but longer ranges are just too much.
-
If you want a semi-auto .22 you will NOT find a better gun than the 10/22. . .PERIOD!!!
That is the God's honest truth. . .they are bulletproof, not overly picky, VERY accurate right out of the box, and there is a huge aftermarket for them. . .if you can't buy a factory version of the 10/22 that suits your needs 100% then you are only a part or two away from getting there!!!
-
I have a few 10/22's that have been modded, aftermarket barrels, bolts, headspaced, and none will shoot with my bolt action CZ.
A 10/22 should not need headspaced???. . .normally anyway. . .
My 10/22 will shoot sub-MOA right out of the box!!! Factory stock, barrel, and internals. . .I've had it since the 8th grade (it was a graduation present) and my Dad and I used to have contest to see who could shoot the caps off of bottles without breaking the neck. . .or if it was a bottle already floating in the creek (we didn't put litter in the creek, but if it was already there or in a log jam we wouldn't have a problem shooting it) see how many times we could shoot it before it sank. . .we would just knock a small piece off each time and work our way down the bottle till it finally sank. . .
. . .the 10/22's can be EXTREMELY accurate. . .they have the capability of shooting more accurately than most people can actually shoot. . .
just my :twocents:
I have no If you want to burn ammo at pop cans, 10/22.
If you want to shoot tiny groups, there are other ideas.
I disagree. . .see above. . .
-
With regards to jamming 10/22's. . .the only time my 10/22 has jammed has been when using sub-sonic ammo. . .any semi-auto would have problems with sub-sonic ammo not just the 10/22, but you can get a special bolt so that you can reliable shoot the sub-sonic ammo. . .
. . .and it jammed another time with a factory clip that had a worn out spring. . .that is it. . .
If you are using Stinger's you should know that the cases are longer than other .22LR cases. . .so there is an increased chance of having a jam if you are shooting Stingers out of a semi-auto. . .
. . .the ammo that you shoot in conjunction with the type of chamber that your rifle has will determine the likelihood of experiencing jams. . .with any semi-auto if you have a match chamber (actually a Bentz chamber for a semi-auto. . .semi-auto's are not made with a true match chamber) and the rifling extends all the way to the chamber you will not be able to reliably use cheap ammo or use Stingers either. . .also with the match chamber and full length rifling unfired rounds may not eject from the chamber. . .
. . .just some info for thought. . .

My 10/22 jams all the time, from the regular stovepipes that happen at least 1 out of 20 shots, to a fairly new factory mag breaking.
My dad bought me that gun when I was 15, so it has some sentimental value and I don't want to get rid of it, but I rarely even bother with it because its so unreliable.
Can anyone refer me to a good gunsmith in the seattle area that won't hose me?
-
I've got an old Marlin lever action that shoots great as long as I don't try to feed it Stingers, my favorite .22 is my S&W Model 41.

If your going to spend around $400, I would buy a 10/22, then buy a Ruger MKII/III, or a 22/45. I enjoy shooting a .22 auto pistol just about more than anything else.
-
I love my 10-22 (well really my dads but i have had it in my possesion for the last 20 yrs ;) and the only time I've had any jams is when using the plastic banana clips. I finally got old enough that the factory 10 rnd mags looked cool enough, went back to using them and have not had any more problems. I will say mine is ok accurate, but not a tack driver. I would recommend it.
-
I really like my Remington 572 fieldmaster delux. I saved up my wood cutting money one fall and bought it back in the late 80's. Killed a lot of small game with that rifle.
-
my mod 60 Marlin shot a nice group (even though they dropped 4") at 100 yards today.
(Turk mauser did larger holes - open sights)
A better scope would have made more accurate shots by seeing the target better.
-
i like my ruger model 96 pretty good. i dout its the best out there but it shoots good for me.
-
this is the best .22
-
I don't have this anymore but it was the most accurate .22 handgun I have ever used:
-
i like the marlin model 60 although the marlin papoose i got i really like to. both of them shoot and cycle the sub sonics really well. ive never been a fan of the 10-22
-
I find it hard to believe that as many of you are having troubles with the 10/22 jamming as you are. . .these things are notorious for being accurate and reliable. . .as I said I've had mine for almost 20 years and the only time I ever had any jams was when I tried subsonic ammo or the birdshot ammo. . .
. . .I never personally had any problems with Stingers in mine, but I have heard of feeding issues with the Stingers which wouldn't surprise me because the cases on Stingers are longer. . .I would have to wonder why those of you that are having feeding problems are having them. . .
. . .occasionally when I let my GF use my 10/22 she has a problem loading the first round with a fresh clip but that's because she's too gentle with the bolt. . .
-
My 10/22 isn't ejecting the spent shells properly, causing it to jam. I've been shooting Federal. I've been meaning to try out some different brands of ammo to see if that helps.
-
My 10/22 digests anything including sub-sonics, except for squib rounds (about 5% of the Wally world Fed bulk box). It didn’t always, took a 2 brick break-in and the right amount of oil on the bolt, one drop smeared between the fingers then on the bolt. More than that and it gums up.
-
When I was younger, my 10/22 also digested many, many boxes of the 500 round Federal bulk boxes from Wal-Mart without a single jam ever. . .
-
. . .occasionally when I let my GF use my 10/22 she has a problem loading the first round with a fresh clip but that's because she's too gentle with the bolt. . .

Meaning what??? Yikes that she's too gentle with the "bolt"
or
that she uses the rifle???
