Anybody see any turkey chicks yet, just wondering how the hatch was? I saw my first bunch a couple days ago and there was 7 chicks with 2 hens.

Did they have a good hatch?
-
Seen three hens this past weekend. 2 had 9 chicks and 1 had 10
-
Saw a hen in my front yard a week ago with 4. She beat the crap out of my dog to protect them.
-
Couple broods in the Blues Memorial Day weekend.
-
A hen in Spokane 2 weeks ago with 11 and I think she thought I was the Devil :)
-
Is this what you mean?
-
Saw a good brood on Memorial day weekend when i was out hunting. I was wondering why she ran away and then turned and came right back at me.
-
Good to hear that the poults are doing good hopefully the weather stays nice and they do good!
-
Saw Poult tracks and poult feathers back at Mother's Day weekend in Newport area. The feathers were wrapped up in predator poop though.
-
Just curious what the storms did to the poults.. Any word? :dunno:
-
I have been seeing a ton of turkey, quail and grouse chicks lately. What storms are you talking about oldlec?
-

It just seemed like it was perfect weather for a good hatch and until end of May, then NE Wa got pounded by rain in a few diff storms. I figured it killed everything off. Good to hear that's not the case everywhere.

Have seen two large broods in Chelan Co so far, the ones last week were already grouse size.

Yeah I hate it when that first batch of grouse chicks get rained out. That first brood makes the biggest difference :twocents:
Turkey poults are a lot tougher than grouse chicks that I've noticed. I did see a few hens with 6+ poults in your neck of the woods oldleclercrd. Not that it guarantees anything but usually it's all or nothing.

Awesome Jon. Only time will tell I guess.

 yup
Compared to elsewhere in the state I'd say the poults in 117, 121, 113, 105 etc are a little bit later than those in the warmer GMUs. Most of the ones by me in Spokane are much younger than those pictured

All winter and spring I have hens in my yard every day. Once the breeding is over I only see jakes and toms around my place. I've had 12 of last years jakes come around every day this year. About a week ago I saw 3 hens with about 20 chicks or so out in a field, the jakes/almost toms puffed up and attacked the chicks and drove them off. The funny thing is the hens let them do it. :dunno:
-
It's a hierarchy thing. I observe it with domestic game birds and chickens. The hens know the toms aren't going to eat/kill the poults.
-
I saw my first batch of poults yesterday. There were about 12-18 poults with a group of 3 hens. I was starting to get worried.
Along those same lines seen lots of quail chicks but very very few pheasant chicks.
-
They started showing themselves here about two weeks ago.
-
I saw one hen in my yard with 13 poults.
-
I have two different sets hanging out on my property. 15 chicks or so.
-
Checked the game cams and caught these guys.
-
I'd say the hatch was decent..
-
Weird, I've seen a ton of poults this year. Was in yaki canyon two days ago and saw a nice group and on Teanaway today and saw 20+ with two hens.
-
I saw some 9 with 3 hens in Cle Elum area on private land. Also saw 5 tall jakes up north from Cle Elum. Fall hunt coming soon.....
