Please chat with me about your experiences with any pistols that meet my description to follow. I'm shopping for a pistol with a crisp, consistent SA trigger. I'm fine with a safety, which is really whatcha get with a good pistol trigger it seems. My current pistol has a safety and I'm confident with it...just don't like my spungy trigger. I prefer a capacity around 15 rounds.
I lean towards CZ with those call-outs. With less capacity I was looking at the BHP and A 9mm 1911 but I'd like more in MY mag. I really like the P226 but don;t like the Sig DA. Also don;t like the 2 pc grips on the Sig SA.
Thnx

A CZ taken to someone who knows how to work on them would be a good choice. The weight of a CZ is real nice in recoil. Have you ever shot a Glock 34 with a trigger done by someone who knew what they were doing? A custom STI 2011 would certainly fit what you are looking for plus you can load long and very, very hot. You could buy an off-the-shelf- STI in 9mm too but a full-on custom (done right) will run circles around it.

I do not know how it is done, call Champion Arms in Seattle, but I have seen 9 mm 1911 that held lots of rounds.

GLock – 17, 19 or 26 -

A 17 or 17L with a decent trigger is pretty capable. ( I hate Glocks, but carry one BTW)
The CZ is a great value
The STI's are extremely well made and are essentially a custom hi cap 1911. We are an STI dealer and have one in stock.

I had one and did not like it so traded it for a sub xd. but that is just me. mike w

Even though you said there were things you didn't care for about the Sig 226 but if I was looking for a full size 9, the 226 would be my first choice. Others are good too but I've never had a Sig I didn't like.

The CZ while it is a DA/SA has a nice trigger on it. Maybe look at the SP0 and tactical variants...

Thnx fellas. I used to shoot a glock but it had a factory trigger. I like the idea of a CZ cocked and locked. I've researched STI a bit so I'll look into them more. FWIW, at that price tag, I might do the P226.
I'm thinking STI, Para (Black Ops recon?), CZ, or Sig.

Out of those choices an STI with a trigger job from someone who knows what they are doing is going to give you the best trigger, mine is just under 2lbs. A stock STI trigger isn't great at all unless you are comparing it to a factory plastic gun. There are quite a few places to send a CZ to people who know what they are doing and they shoot very nice. Gray's Guns is well known as the Sig master, I haven't shot one enough to form an opinion other then there are better options then Sig's.
I still think that a Glock with a non-factory trigger will surprise a lot of people. If you shot a Glock 17/19 or something like that you shot with a terrible trigger. A Glock 34 has a better trigger but is still bad. A Glock with a trigger done by someone who knows what they are doing and how to do it is a very capable pistol, all for $400. In fact it is the pistol that is by far the easiest to get to being acceptable out of the box of all of them. My G34 has about a 2.5 lb trigger, is plenty accurate, and magazines are 20 bucks.

One more thing, STI's factory magazines are notorious for being horrible. The mags have seemed to get better recently but I would buy "tuned" mags which will run $130 to $150.

Ill say +1 for the Glock 34. Even the factory 34 trigger is better than the standard Glocks. if you want crisp trigger 1911's are always a good option. if money is no question check out the Sig 226 X-Five. its about $3000 but you get a SA trigger with LOTS of 9mm fun. :chuckle:

I looked into the BHP pretty seriously but it's listed on the website as 10 rd capacity??

Beretta M9/92FS. I like the M9 because it has the flat dustcover of the older 92-series pistols, before the frame was modified for the .40 round. It's got a safety, and 15rd factory mags. I've had a couple, they all ran flawlessly. Down to just the M9 at the moment. It isn't leaving.
-
In my past I have shot a full mag through one ragged 2" hole at about 40 feet with the P226, the M9, and a tricked out Dan Wesson 1911. I'm a pretty good shot, I fair about that well with other guns, but I remember that M9 session for sure. I don;t like that safety though. So, I'm gonna think on the P226 more. All your suggestions are gonna get some thinkin actually.
Please post a link that verifies the 13 or 15 round capacity on the BHP, and if htere's a shop that you can recommend for glock work that would be great too. My father in law just bought a 19 so it will at least benefit him.

I read the fine print on the BHP. 13 rd's in 9mm. I'd still love some feedback on good shops that do Glock work.
thnx

Try these two if you want to buy a new trigger:

Or, search for the "25 cent trigger job" if you want to go at it yourself.

We work on Glocks.

Get a 5" STI 9mm 1911 and be happy with 10rds.
There is no comparison with any of the plastic fantastics listed above.
Seriously.
-
I would try the M&P. I had no idea about them and was issued one at work. I consistently qualify 96 to 97% with it. I was very surprised. With a Glock I shot lower scores. I'm a 1911 guy by choice but the M&P surprised me by how well it shoots.
-
RG, are your duty pistols stock M&P's? Factory triggers?

The STI 2011's are worth a look :chuckle:

I also carry an M&P at work (.40), stock trigger, stock sights, it points really well. The trigger however is not very crisp, same thing goes for my CC (M&P compact .40), and the reset is nonexistant. I've heard that the newer M&P's have a more tangible reset, but I have not fired a newer M&P.
I like my Glock 17 and 19 better, and shoot better with both of them (marginally) than my duty pistol and CC pistol. The M&P's however have a much more ergonomical grip and fit my hand better than a Glock.
So I hope that is as clear as mud for you  You really gotta go out and shoot some guns and find out what fits you best!
