My brother and I drew the same permit for archery this year. We know a few good areas but it would be great to compare notes and keep tabs on each others progress. We will probably be camped (I have a travel trailer) at Crow Creek for the season.

I had 24 points and my buddy had 12 for an average of 18 and didn't draw the rifle tag. I was very disappointed to say the least but you have given me some happiness tonight.
I plan on still putting out cameras all summer up there in the biggest and nasties holes up there. If I see something that looks good I will give you his exact location. It's owed to you in my book.

Fantastic! I stopped by Costco and bought a big bottle of Aleve because I know this is going to hurt. Remember the little ones are more tender. I second Coach with drag down hill please. Start practicing because 20 yards isn't going to cut it. Game on.

Good thing is I really dont have to burn alot of gas scouting!!! I have a plan already and will just build on it.
I'm shooting 25 arrows everyday and feeling good about the bow. Its three months away but I got this feeling it will be here very fast.
Now if I can just get Coach to not road hunt I will be set. :chuckle:

Been shooting alot and have improved on several things, grip being number 1.
I absolutely cant wait to wake up high on the mtn on Sept 12 and hear that first bugle!!! This will be the hunt to cap off my long hunting career. After this I plan on helping others fill their dream hunts on peaches. I truly get more satisfation from that these days than hunting myself.
I havent scouted my area of attack yet, I dont wanna push any elk around this far out from the start of the season.
Hope all the other tag holders are excited as I am

No Sheriff needed, Lets just say I took the law into my own hands. I had a shovel in my truck and used it!!!

Scouted yesterday and today! Lets just say I found a ton of bulls! One that is a fir sure first day shooter (no pics). GF got to watch three bulls fight for about 30 mins from 100 yds away! These three were banging horns pretty good for having velvet on still..
Idiots are still havibg campfires!!!! And Whislin jacks has gone downhill. Other than that it was an amazing day on the mtn!
Couple bulls I cow called for a photo shoot.
Hey rt, I am suprised we haven't had more than one human caused fire up there this year with all the idiots in that drainage. Call the sheriffs office to report the campfires.
No Sheriff needed, Lets just say I took the law into my own hands. I had a shovel in my truck and used it!!!

Every time I make up two dozen perfect arrows expecting a long hard fought season success usually comes quick. Then I change my bow the following year and have two dozen arrows that sit in tubes until some friend or family member comes and steals them. It's a lot like forgetting a camera or a knife - Almost guaranteed you'll get something then :chuckle:

I ate a East Okanogan tag some years back, probably for the same reasons as you, I have shot plenty of deer and wanted a toad! I saw plenty but ended up eating it. Still to this day my best hunt ever. By myself in my camper hunting hard everyday.

You stayed after it and probably learned Aton. Lot of other things to bring out of the woods on a trip like that. When you wack a good one and it's only day two you can attribute this time spent and all prior time spent to the kill your after. I hunted 13 days of season in two states and have similar results. So I know it's not lack of trying. Good work rt. Now where's the huge cow... Pms accepted. My kid needs an opening morning elk. So does my freezer. :chuckle:

Some guys is goal is to just fill the tag, but others want to put in a lot of effort to shoot a monster on the last day. To me it sounds like a successful hunt you were into elk everyday, and you had your buddies with you. You get him next Rt :tup:Pretty sure even RT coulda stuck that 5point at twenty yards broad side :chuckle:

It was all about the people I scouted and hunted with. All the ups and downs to go with it. Based on the reading I have read, it was a hunt of a lifetime and that's all that counts!
I've drawn that unit and killed a respectful bull and there is no better hunt my hunting partners and I have hunted in this state. We have had other hunts in that unit with no success but had tons of close calls. I'll never forget them! :tup:

You did not fail. You did not meet "your" expectations. But you did not fail. Heck any time you are out in the woods learning and having fun it is part of the activity you, me and many others engage in, that is why it is called a sport. Seems like you and your team had a blast. Having a goal before you go out is what everyone should do. For that matter your typical Washington Elk hunting I am pretty happy with a branched antlered bull.

Excellent food ,excellent calling ,trusted friendship was had , past stories were told , future ones are being made I hope you rate your hunt a A1 plus. Greatest thread this year the only thing that was needed was a little more icing on the cake. If it helps any I went for many years of not notching a tag looking for dink

When a sattelite 350 bull comes in with no shot id say a small bull is under 300. I just chose to hold out for a stud!

I think the best part of Kurt's hunt for me is that he didn't give in on what he would consider a lesser animal.
He has waited a long time for that tag and had high expectations. I am holding out for a tag like that as well and if I ever draw I will hold out for what I think is a spectacular animal in my mind. If I don't see that animal or get a shot I will eat my tag as well. If you settle on day 7 or with 2 hours left in the season you don't know if that dream bull would have come in.
Good job on sticking to your standards, not settling and hunting it out all the way through. You can always shoot a cow or spike in the late season with your general tag.

Ive delayed my posting because I really dont know what to write. I failed pretty much sums it up!!! I have no regrets, I set a goal and just could not achieve success.Archery is hard! I too did not achieve my goals of sticking a big bull! All that matters in my opinion is you tried your hardest! And you had fun, hunting is about friends family and outdoors! Its not all about the harvest to me!
Archery is hard! Lots to learn and trust me Im as frustrated as I have ever been as a hunter. Just gonna give it some time and see what happens.
Thank you to my crew! They did everything they could for me. You guys are top notch.
Thank you for following what was my dream to chase monster bulls.

FYI-my neighbor and his cousin got blanked up there as well after using up 10 points, he said it was a weird year up there.

It was a cool hunt with hardly any people, so that was the quality of it.

masonctyhitman and ghost hunter all excellent stand up guys, was my pleasure to meet you all

Sounds like everyone had an opportunity to kill a descent bull, but everyone was holding out for a monster. Correct?
