Title: Selah Butte B Ewe selected!
Post by: CNELK on June 12, 2015, 08:23:12 AM: I am so excited I finally drew a OIL tag! Its hard for me to even find the words to express how I feel right now! Now it's time for me to plan the trip! Have any of you out there hunted this tag or know someone that has?

All I know about that unit is that some of the best area is private and the landowner charges a fairly high fee for access. But there's also enough public land that you can get your sheep without having to pay for the private access.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll get plenty of help. Let me know if you want to contact the biologist for that area. I have a phone number and email address, he was very helpful last year with my sheep hunt.

Yeah I also can't wait to draw ram hunt someday and get a ram like you got last year. With 17 points next year I hope to draw one of these years!

Nope never had anyone on cam, tho that spot is no secret.

He had great mass from the base to the tips and his horns came down past his jaw line and back up. I'm not the best judge on rams but I'm sure he would be a good ram for the unit.?

Post by: CNELK on November 05, 2015, 08:16:02 AM: Ewe down!... got her opening morning! It sure was a fun time to spend with my dad and long time family friend! I can't thank them enough for taking the time off work to join me on this hunt. I sure feel blessed to even have had the opportunity to harvest such an amazing animal. If you have never seen sheep in the rut it sure is fun to watch, with or without a tag in pocket! The ewe I shot had 6 rams chasing her around and it was also a goal of mine to try to find a dry ewe without a lamb, which she was. Now the wait is on to get her back from my taxidermist and I plan on getting a pedestal mount of her and will have a empty spot next to her where someday hope to fill it with a giant ram!

Post by: CNELK on November 08, 2015, 08:52:35 AM: He was really close to it about two to three hundred yards to the BLM land but he was still on the ranch. If I had the ram tag I would pay the trust pass fee to hunt the private late to. But you shouldn't have any problem finding a ram on the BLM land seen a bunch of decent rams and a few nice shooters. I do understand why he would post a sign there because he does have land behind most of the BLM land and he doesn't what people on his land. With that being said I talked to people that said they have had issues with people that work for Reds fly shop trying to kick them off BLM land and claiming that it is private property which I do not agree with.
