The wife of mine drew one of two tags for sept 28 thru oct 2 in the white river. The last tag she drew was the muzzy white river tag the first year they came out, damn she is lucky. I can't wait to put a big screaming bull in her face, I know the unit pretty well. Between me and a couple other friends, we should be able to put the smack down on a biggon. And since the wdfw hates me with NO tags, I at least have this to look forward to.
-
Congrats to her!!!
-
GREAT tag
-
AWESOME tag!!!!!!!!!! Im jealous
-
Thanks, cant friggin wait. Heading up to scout in a couple hours once my hangover goes away!! Not sure if I was celebrating last night or trying to drown my sorrow's??? The only bull she has killed was a spike on her muzzy hunt in the white, I'm putting her goal at 320 and bigger. NO spikes this time.

Is it permit elk hunting only for elk in the white river. Congrats to wife sweet tag. Rick

I'm stoked for your wife. Great hunt have a blast and take lots of pics. She can redeem herself.
-
Awesome! You guys are going to have a good time!
-
We went to the Tacoma sportsman club today to have her put some lead down range. She shot the .300 really well for not shooting a rifle in years, all shots were dead elk. At 200 yards she was 3" off of dead center, meant to take pics but forgot!
-
I love this unit, been hunting it since 1969. good luck to your wife, should be something special
-
Awsome on your wifes shooting. Might head up there for a few days this week with the tent see were I can camp with the trailer. Rick
-
Wives draw the best and do the best! It's so much fun just to be with them! Have a ball!!!! I wish my wife could draw every year. Just my experience, but it must be true for others too. I hope it is for you!!!!!

14 weeks and 1 day away!!!!!
-
Pulled the card today after soaking for 3 weeks, 516 pic's. Nothing worth posting, besides I don't know how to anyway. Tons of cows, calves. 5 points, one 3 point bulls and a small bear. Plenty of time to find the big one! Did see 20 goats hanging out on the rocks and lots of elk all over. Much cooler today.
-
In michigan making my call parts. Will be here till the 21st. Cant wait to learn the area excited. Cabelas want me to come the 15th and 16 also the 28th and 29th of Aug. With my call table. What to do want to at in the mountains. Sounds like you had fun. Rick

Went for a good hike today in the backcountry by norse peek and beyond, met a guy who stayed at basin lake over night with his wife on horses. After talking a while with them about the area he said he say a wolf chasing a cow with a calf last night, while they were at basin lake. I always knew they were close, but I just wasn't prepared for them to be in the neighborhood so close in that country so soon. Sucks to hear it, these wolves will thrive in that area. He has a friend that had a trail camera in stampede area, he has a pic of a wolf with a collar on it, NOT transplanted MY AZZ. I hope one of these many wolf lovers that hike up there get bite right in the azz by one of there beloved wolves.

Time to go coyote hunting

Nice best hunting here on the coast Clearwater. Seen a hard horn Quinalt indian. Showing my calls at cabelas in Lacey 15th and 16th. Then I will bear hunt the whiteriver unit. Sure can't wait to meet every one. Headi ding into some timber and try to call a bear in. Windy here today 61 degrees and cloudy.

First day is in the books, we spent the night in the backcountry for the opener. Went to bed with 4 bulls in this certain meadow, nothing huge but they had cows and were bugling. Shortly after light, silence. The next morning we were anticipating the 3.5 mile deep meadow on a Monday full of elk. Instead, there was a guy in the middle of the meadow tying his shoes, not what we were expecting. One cow was in the area and we didn't hear a bugle all day. Found a drop tine 5x5 that won't bugle, just groans. Pretty cool looking bull but we are going to wait on him, he seems to be killable. Today we are going to a different area, packed out of the wilderness last night and enjoyed a couple whiskeys with ICE!!
-
Good luck! If you find one too big to pack out just leave him, I'll take care of him Saturday

Good luck to her !

He seen some bulls today but nothing on the ground yet. I feel bad... I planned on being up there everyday but due to a coworker being in a really bad accident it put us shorthanded so I cant get out. I hopefully will be up tomorrow. I am pretty sure I know where a couple are hiding..

Pulling for you buddy! Been checking this forum 24/7 hoping for an update!
-
Well just got some food in me and a good drink. Today could have been a really good day, just wasn't in the cards. Remember my wife only hunts when she draws a tag so she not as expirienced as us veterans. I think bull fever got to her and pulled the trigger to hard. She missed a nice 320 type bull, he was the only bull we saw today in our range. This rut just sucks, the weather is too damn hot and the moon is killing us like I said last post. No excuses on this miss, just inexperience. I reassured her that it happens to the best of us. She feels bad, so I'm not giving her too much grief. At least it's not a wounded lost bull!! Hopefully this rut kicks in hard very soon! We are working our butts off so I think it will happen!!
-
That's to bad....keep at it and she will get a good bull...lookin forward to the bbd pics

Yea :yeah: the next one might be 360".

With that said Julie you are a awesome women to go thru what you did. Also a great host, always keeping the beer flowing. Congrats on a great hunt and great bull.. I am privileged to be part of it. On another note. I can't decide what was harder. My hike up or the pack out. I loved the moment your dad pushed you aside to hug Julie. . Great moment

-
What a Bruiser. Great Job!
-
So much clean up to do, quick story. This tag comes with a ton of pressure, mostly on ourselves to do it justice. This year the rut was really odd where we hunted, the days were too hot and the moon was the brightest I've ever seen. Bugling ended sharply around 8:30 every morning and didn't start up until around 4:30, made for long hot days. Saw a drop tine bull day before the opener, he looked nice but not big enough for the first few days, he nevered bugled only groaned. We hiked in the back country for an over nighter on Sunday, saw 4 bulls in a basin before we went to bed. Woke up opening morning to find the basin empty of elk, only saw a guy in the middle of the basin! We hike the rest of the day calling at ever new corner, nothing, no responses at all. We left our back country camp for the trailer and a different area. We saw Bulls everyday, usually rag horns and always miles away. Her first opportunity came Tuesday morning, the trail led us to a nice bugling bull. We got as close as we could, set up, I called back and he stepped out. I knew right away it was a shooter, shoot, I told her. Well, she made a clean miss! I'm sure she pulled the trigger, rookie mistake that I've made a few times in my hunting life. She felt absolutely rorrible about it, I tried to re assure her it's not that uncommon and it's far better to miss than make a bad shot and not recover the animal. Wednesday morning we were hunting a different area with notelumcreek (hank) as our guide. NO he wasn't paid!!!!!! Hank had knowledge of the area and was gracious enough to help out. We saw 3 bulls that morning all rags and almost stepped on a goat in the dark. At our final basin a bull screamed from across the canyon, I cow called and he immediately responded! Game on! He showed himself through the trees at 556 yards away, we knew right away he was a shooter. Juli got set up with our packs as a rest and I called again. The bull was already on his way, he made his way over to us to 100 yards in less than 3 or 4 minutes. He turned up hill when he reached the top of the ridge and offered her a great broadside shot, boom!! He hunched up and stood there, Boom, second shot and he started walking. He got behind a tree and stood there for what seemed like forever. he finally turned facing down hill and stepped out from the tree, boom! Last shot destroyed his shoulder and he was done! We waited about a half hour cause he went behind a tree and was alive for a few minutes, we did not want to chance him running down either side of the canyon we were on. We found him dead and the work begain, his antler dug into the ground which saved him from rolling down 350' to the bottom of the basin probably saving us hours of packing and broken antlers. We had to tie off his head to a tree to keep him from rolling away during the breakdown of the bull. We really worked our butts off on this hunt, the day of the results I put up a camera and scouted since June. I really can't express my respect for Ross (rosscrazyelk) and Hank for helping out on the pack! Ross left work, grabbed our meat packs and hiked up the mountain to help, priceless having guys like these two on your side! We owe them big! Thanks again for tagging along, thanks for ALL the support and kind words. And thanks to those guys I revived PM's from offering there help to pack, you know who you are and it's greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Thanks trophy, yeah the husband had a quality elk rifle in the Teanaway last year. We were just reminiscing about our spouses' epic hunts that we still love to talk about :)

300 is a great bull, there are 295" bulls that are great. 300" is the mark for me this year and even if it is 285" it will be the biggest bull on my wall. I think I am more looking forward to the experience versus inches of antler. Score is just one aspect of the hunt and not what it is all about.

300 is a great bull for sure. Photography and proportion often make bulls look bigger than they do in person.
