SHEEP ANY RAM
Application Type: Individual
Point used: 16
SELECTED - MANSON
Now what? This is somewhat unfamiliar territory.... I guess I have to get my mainland boat trailer fixed and back to the mainland. I'm so excited, now I definitely need to get my bow out and start shooting, of course the rifle will be along as well.
:brew:
-
Way to go Ed....I'm sure you will have a great hunt.
-
Congratulations! You forgot to say which unit.
-
CONGRATS! Which unit?
-
Awesome....pick me up as you drive by.... :)
-
OOPS, Manson
-
Do you have a boat?
-
Sweet! I know a little about the sheep up there. I am about an hour or so drive from there so if you come over to do any scouting, you are welcome to use my house as base camp.
-

Do I have a boat? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Thanks Vandeman, nice offer. Hopefully I can get some other connections through someone I know that used to live up in Stehekin.
-
Congratulations
-
That's awesome Ed! That would be a fun hunt. Congrats on the tag.
-
Right on can't wait for the photos and story.

I know a few people that live in Stehekin as well. They are actually outfitters and I could put you in contact with them if you have access questions.
-
Congrats on a great draw....can't wait to see pics and hear your story.
-
Enjoy the crap out of this experience. Congrats
-
Excellent. Pm me if you'd like some info it's a great area.
-
Congrats. Have seen a few nice rams over there :)
-
Congrats.
Looking forward to reading your story and looking at the picks.
Nothing quite like a sheep hunt
-
That's awesome Ed!! Look up Gold creek area when scouting. Good luck buddy.
-
Dream hunt !
-
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Hoping for the best for you.
-
very cool!
I have hunted deer up there the last 4 years and will be back this year. if you need any help let me know. should be a great hunt! Saw some good rams last year above Mitchel creek
-
Awesome draw!! Congrats, should be a memorable time for sure!
-
Thanks everyone! I think it is starting to soak in how much I need to do to get physically in much better shape than I am... at least I don't have weight to lose, just got to get the aerobics going. :)
This is something that I would never have guessed would happen, not in this lifetime anyways. Might have to do at least one scouting trip during bear season. ;)
-
There are a FEW bear up there
:chuckle:
-
There is a little yellow helecopter in Manson that will take you for a scouting ride.

That could be fun.
It has been at least 16 years since I've been up to Chelan. Can I shoot 1100 yards from my boat off the gyroscopic bow mount? :chuckle:
-
You shouldn't need to they stand by on the beach :chuckle: by cabins :yike:
-

Good, then the flashlight on my bow won't spook 'em.... :yike:
-
You could also add an electric motor to your bow to be a little sneakier :dunno:
-
congrats on the tag!! I have seen a lot of sheep up there over the years..
-
You need to check out the Savora website and pick the one you want. I'll give you the "husband of a new found cousin" deal :chuckle:
If Curly draws a tag next year I'm disowning all of ya lucky Bas*&$@!! :tung: :tung:
-
Happy for you loki!
-
Congrats on your sheep tag. Nothing like a once in a lifetime sheep hunt in the rut👊💥👊
-
Happy husband, happy wife... :)
-
Thanks Radsav.
Does anyone know what the weather is generally like up there in November?
Let's see, I'll need a water boy, gun carrier, pack toter, trophy evaluator... better start the lottery now. Oh wait, maybe I should just call Hirshey.... Except she would surely run me into the ground. :chuckle:
-
It's cold.
I'd help but I will be chasing moose. I too would ask for Hirsheys help but I don't want her to make fun and laugh at me. :chuckle:
-
Lokidog,
PM me a contact number for you...not only is that my hometown (we can spot sheep from my dads front lawn) but my dad has helped 3 sheep hunters fill their tag in the Manson Unit...google the 12 year old kid that killed a sheep in Manson last year...it wad blogged at Northwest Sportsman Magazine and you will read about my dad...I "might" know who wrote the blog.
;)

I look forward to hearing more about this hunt.

What about camp chef? I make a mean mountain house. :chuckle:
-
Congrats Loki! A good friend drew that tag a few years ago. I will pick his brain and then get a hold of you with what I can find out.
-
Thanks Bearhunter, Grade Creek, PM inbound.
Elk 247, I started to include camp chef but then realized that might imply that I can't cook... can you imagine the meals I can come up with when I have someone carrying a pantry pack for me, no Mountain House here.... :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Congratulation on a great tag! I hope You get the one You want. You will be thinking about this Tag every day for the next several months.
Best of luck,
John
-
Congrats Ed,
Don't forget to pack the bearings on your trailer. :chuckle:
and I volunteer for the pack mule position.
-
WOW!!
Congrats on a great permit/tag to draw...
Except this is probably the only thing that would keep you from coming down for Elk with me this Sept.. :'(
-
I believe that if you shot your sheep with a Savora Titanium and a Crossbow you could accomplish two things never done before. First to kill a Bighorn with a Titanium Savora and the first to legally shoot a Washington Bighorn with a crossbow. Could be a fun story to tell the grandkids some day :dunno:
-
Way to get selected LOKI, if I'm not working when you go I'll go with you to help pack or whatever you need. You know I can hike up mountains remember last year for our bear hunt. Lol. Plus I ought a new Bull Pack at the sportsmanship show this year that I need to break in.
-
Nice ..That would be cool if you could get it done with your bow ...but being what it is , you would be forgiven if you had to use the Big stick :dunno: :chuckle:
-
Congrats!!!!!!
-
Congrats Loki, you will have a blast.

I'm still planning on the elk hunt with you, I hear you need backup for that stick you use... :chuckle: plus, there's a lot more meat on an elk.

I actually thought about the X-bow Rad, but if I am close enough for that, I can probably use my regular bow. Hmmm, Boss 300 can probably carry my crossbow and my rifle as well as a bunch of food with his new fancy pack. :chuckle:
-
Oh yeah, I've got a younger neighbor who is willing to help me get in shape with some aerobic work as well as stretching, something I've been needing to do for a while anyways.

How good looking is she? Could be just the motivation a man needs to get off the couch and take an aerobics class!
...With Weathergirl's supervision of course.
-
Here are some sheep from the Manson unit...It was along time ago, back in 2006.
-
Thanks Mossyoak, nice photo. This is one of the things that will be very helpful as I have not seen a lot of sheep and have never judged any in the field. Would the one on bottom right be a potential shooter or are all of these guys wannabees? The one in the upper left looks like he's got some mass, but hard to tell in the bushes....
Rad, unfortunately for my eyes, it's not a she... now if Hirshey wants to come be my trainer, I'll feed her all the shrimp and lingcod she can eat. :chuckle: ** Hopefully, the aforementioned Hirshey understands this is in fun and I have an immense amount of respect for her abilities.
-
Just wait till He is thirsty and you dont need to do any stretching or sweating. O know that picture is 9 years old :o

:dunno:
I noticed it was from 2006, just asking about judging these as a generic group of sheep.
-
Those are the shooters. But I dont have a current picture to post on here.
-
So, A, B, and C look like good sheep, but they do not look like "full curl". Am I seeing/interpreting this correctly? C looks wider than the others, but is a different angle. D looks like he could be good , but hard to tell in the bushes. Any ideas what these guys might score? Do the really big boys hang in the bachelor herds like this?
Thx for the help.
-
I don't know if any of them were shooters....there was a really nice ram with a blue ear tag that I was unable to get a pic of...he was definitely a shooter...hopefully his genetics are still around..the pic was taken in July...I don't know if the big Rams are in groups or not at that time.
-
Definitely plan on putting some time in the boat but beware the winds will blow and white caps will follow.

Like November to March on the Sound? Without a swell from the Straits.... :o Although I hear there can be a pretty good swell there as well.
-
Congratulations Ed! A bighorn tag in your pocket is one of the greatest experiences to be had! Enjoy.
-
Congrats. ont tag. Good Luck. Hope your hunt is everything you dreamed it would be, and you shoot a monster ram with your bow.
-
I sent you an email through the site.

Good things happen to good people.. Congrats
-
Launch at 25 mile run across the lake and look at the sheep from a boat. Took a hunter about 4 or 5 years ago to look at sheep the day before his tag on the water. COLD but sunny. Have fun Good Luck

Thanks Ross.
-
congrats on a great tag
-
Nice draw Loki. I have no desire to climb the mountain looking for sheep, but I could boat sit down on the beach and have coffee ready when you get back. :chuckle:
-

That's good to hear, I was looking forward to having someone who was not afraid of a few bushes to hunt with again!
Congrats again on the draw!!
-

If genuine, that is a great offer. A boat operator/handler is REALLY nice for a Manson sheep hunt.

I aint scared of packing your gear dude bring it on! ;)
I will never draw a sheep tag since i dont put in for them, but it is a dream hunt just to be able to participate in it.
-
I agree. If you get to help out and then lucky enough to draw next year...it's like you cheat the system and participate in 2 "Once in a lifetime" hunts :chuckle:
At least that's what I tell my hunting buddies. :chuckle: :chuckle:

tagging along...
-
Have you made it over to scout a little yet? The last time I was over there I saw Rams up gold creek drainage...or poison creek. Can't remember which one. We were chucker hunting. That's been years ago though. :chuckle:
-
Nope, this summer has been crazy so far, it seems we have guests coming almost every week for the next month.
