Effective 7-2-15 American Forest Management, Broughton Lumber Company, Hancock Forest Management, Kreps Ranch LLC, Kreps Family LLC, Stevenson Land Company, Western Pacific Timberland and Weyerhaeuser Columbia Timberlands are closing their lands to public entry until further notice. The closure is for lands in Klickitat, Skamania, Hood River and Wasco Counties. Total lands closed is approximately 300,000 acres. The closure will be lifted when significant moisture reduces the fire hazards.
I'm sure everyone knew this was coming.

It would be cool if there was a central thread for fire closures and/or fires. Unless there is already...

Pretty much :chuckle: Although last year I don't believe Weyco shut down the areas open to those with permits during fire season. That was last year though, this year is quite different so far.
I just had a meeting with our local fire chief, I was a bit surprised that he didn't seem really stressed about fires or the 4th. He said he was being overwhelmed with ridiculous calls from people in unincorporated areas wanting them to come check on people lighting off fireworks.

Weyerhaeuser lessee's will still be allowed access on their lands

Last year Weyerhaeuser kept their permit land open to permitees even when there was an active fire burning in one of their areas (Pe Ell south). They said they left it open because permitees had a vested interest in protecting the property and they wanted all the eyes they could get watching for fires. Kind of an early warning system.

Not sure how many people followed the rules in the Weyco permit areas, but you are supposed to have a shovel, ax, and fire extinguisher in your vehicle at all times. Not that you could do much if the fire is already going, but it tells me that they want to have people out there keeping an eye out. I'm sure hoping that they do the same this year.

Wonder how long itl be until I can check my trail cameras... At least they got fresh batteries last week!

I ran out and swapped SD cards. Kapowsin had posted on their web site 6/26 dark was the last chance to get in. Got a few pics. At least my little hunters are out there.... Might be a while before they care report though.

Gonna be a long summer w/o scouting ops. Some of those spots may not be open til October.

Pulled cards out adjacent to Hancock lands in Willipa Hills today. They have closed their lands down there. Heavy thunder storms and rain pelted me while I was in the woods, but I don't think it made a dent in the dryness of the forests.

I always had a fire extinguisher and shovel in my truck. They added the axe this year.
