yes his leg has been broke for about two weeks. hes screwed. lots of other pics of him but my internet is so slow right now it wont let me post any more
-
That grouse picture is pretty cool!
-
Nice assortment.
Curious what model bushnell cam/s took those pics. I have 5 different models of bushnells and none of them have a time/date info bar like yours. :dunno:
-
I think I have a pic of the bull elk with the funny front leg. Looks to be the same elk. His antlers were just starting but there is no mistaking that leg.. PM me. I am very curious about how far he traveled from Cameron Road area near Gifford.
-
Great pictures. I don't think I've ever seen a trail cam picture of a blue grouse!
-

I got pics of that guy strutting there 3 different times. Also have pics of a ruffed there too. Trying to post up some cool february bull elk pics from that spot but it will have to wait until i get somewhere with a solid internet connection.

Those are from the bushnell x8. Its a 2012 model no l9nger in production. Ive tried newer bushnells and 4 different browning models, plus a few others, and ive found nothing that performs as reliably as the x8. I trust them so much that i have 5 still in their package in reserve for when the rest of them stop working. The reviews for the new aggressor are reallybgood though so i bought one and put it on my property yesterday with a trophy rock for a trial run. Ill report back this fall with my opinion after giving it a thorough trial.
-
I just bought an aggressor to but haven't received it yet curious to try it out

WOW... that is an assortment of animals... I guess it's time to go cat/Bear hunting..... clean them out
-
Very cool pics! Thanks for sharing. I especially love the multiple species in the same frame. I'm motivated to get over to my property and start hanging cams now.

Great shots! So many action photos - these pics must be the cream of the crop.

That path looks well traveled.

That path looks well traveled.
I have 3 main trails here, all of which get regular action. Ill be sitting one or another (depending on wind direction) starting sept 1st with bow in hand, since all my public land spots are a no go due to fire. Ive got an arrow with that 5x5s name on it, and id be more than happy to stick that melon headed tom cat, or one of the bears given the opportunity. Elk hunting will have to wait until modern season unfortunately, as i dont have any elk here.

I know, and i still have more i havent posted. Ive totally lost track of how many cougs, and how many times theyve showed up at my place. Seems like at least 6 or 7 diff cats to me, but could be more. They show up constantly. Lotta cats for only having 21 acres

What a cool thread, Bango. I love all the pics. There's one with a bunch of deer and a raven landing on a branch in the back right of the shot - that's very cool.

Make sure you report them.
Youre joking right?
Honestly I don't know what is best. I posted some pictures of wolves on my game camera, and was pm'ed by a Bio saying if I report it it will help move them towards de-listment. I am deeply skeptical about WDFW, do who knows? Also reporting a location may handicap SS&S. :dunno:
-
I was thinking it would be cool if someone "took out" that pack of yotes.
-
In the February stamped pics are you using an attractant? If so, what, because there's no sign of anything on the ground.
-

I put a 12 lb trophy rock there when i set the camera in april or may 2015. So no real attractant there in feb 2016. Little salt soaked into the dirt, but it was buried by snow.

Just checked a cam in another spot today. More wolves. >:(

WOW...Those are some great photos ..Which Bushnell camera do you have ??? I need a couple !!! crazy how that whole pack of wolves are all black ...
Most of them, including the one with the 6 wolves, are the bushnell x8. Discontinued 2012 model. If you keep an eye on ebay you can find them for around 100 bucks pretty regular. Theyre my favorite cameras. Ive put them side by side with all the brownings and they work much better. Plus i get over a year battery life out of them with the energizer ultimate lithiums. Went out to a couple this spring that had been up for 14 months and were still running.

Browning is the only cam I've used and I'm pretty satisfied with them, but I'm curious what specifically about the Bushnell X-8 you like better? Does the X-8 have better range than the Brownings?

Ive put them side by side with browning cams, and the bushnells pick up animals that the brownings miss. And im not talking squirrels, im talking cougars, bears, deer, moose, elk. This pic for example. This cam (bushnell aggressor) is mounted an inch away from a dark ops. The browning didnt take a pic of this cat.

pretty sure i know which one youre talking about. hard to tell due to the angles in various pics, but if his left g5 makes that 1" mark (may or may not,) then he is a mainframe 6x6, with double brows, so total 7x7. thing is hes really young. i have him on cam previous year too, both velvet and hard horned. i think hes 3.5, may only be 2.5 years old. small little rack with lots of potential. im actually really relieved he didnt show up while i was hunting there this year, as i probably would have shot him. id like to see what he turns into if he survives. had a pack of wolves howling right on top of me while i was hunting there in october, so who knows if ill see him again.

Pair of adults in my back yard this morning. Timestamp is off a little on the cam with the salt, the pic that shows them both at same time. That ones like 60 yards from my porch.

And here on the 18th, a female followed by her half grown male cub. Got some night time lion pics here this week too, but didnt save them. And the neighbor dog apparently found a lion kill again, cause it came home with a part of a deer leg. Not the first time its raided a lions cache.

Some nice looking cats you got there
-
Went up yesterday to pull a couple cameras that i havent checked since july 19th. Hiked almost 7 hours through steep snowy mess of a mountain. Both got flipped by bears in early august. :bash: the one on the mineral site was left pointing straight up at the sky. The other was upside down, but at least aimed in such a way that it was still able to get some pics, though not aimed where i wanted it.

Just crazy the amount of critters on your cams. So cool, but a grin reminder of the reality of our woods. Thank you for sharing them with us!!

Are these cams elevated in a tree?
-
Are these cams elevated in a tree?
Yeah, most of them. The cams on my own property are eye level though.
-
Do you haul a ladder or step-stool around with you in the woods to elevate them, or do you just shimmy up a tree?
-
Do you haul a ladder or step-stool around with you in the woods to elevate them, or do you just shimmy up a tree?
Screw in steps usually. Ladders are too cumbersome, and too damn noisy walking through brush. Sometimes i just climb the tree, if there are branches low enough.

Well, ive been a bushnell guy for years. Tried out a couple other brands, but always liked the bushnell. Decided to try out a couple other brands again, so i just went back behind my house to set up a stealthcam ds4k and a spypoint force 10. Noticed a bunch of lion tracks so i checked a couple cams near the house. The pic with the cat in the bottom right of screen at 330pm is only about 60 yards from my house, and its walking away from the house, so who knows how close it was. The other cam i would guess is 80-100 yards from the house. They sure are bold.
-
They sure like your neighborhood !! Do you have a count on different cats you have on cam?
-
No idea man. Numerous. About got more lions than deer here nowadays. A hell of a lot more than there should be if you were to believe what wdfw says about our cougar density.
I have a feeling my lion infestation will correct itself before too long, as the deer numbers here are "mysteriously" declining in a big way. So once there are no more deer, im sure the lions will thin out. :(
-
So i finally put a cam up in video mode, set it on my lion highway. Any advice on how to post videos here withput putting them on youtube?

If you have it on YouTube, copy and paste the link and delete the "s" from "HTTPS". Otherwise, you have to save as MPG or MOV to post it. Look below your post for "Attachments and other Options". Click that and upload your file where it says "Attach:"

:yeah:
-
Some fat cats you got there.
The whistle is a way the communicate with each other. Cougar have a wide range of vocals
-
My understanding is that it is to communicate with other cats, or to just express excitement. Couple years ago i heard one whistle between my house and neighbors house in middle of the day, then my neighbor started hollering for her dog. It was momma lion whistling to her cub, dog treed the cub, i ran right past momma lion and pulled the dog off the tree, got it inside, then a minute later the basically full grown cub came out of the tree and ran off with mom

Nevermind, figured out the problem. With the free vimeo acct, weekly limit is 500mb. This daylight video is about 620mb. So cant post it unless i want to pay a monthly fee.

Lets see a wolf picture
Havent gotten any lately, except one real crappy one from early march. The cam thats on i used to get wolves a lot, but theres hardly any game left on that mtn, so the wolves have mostly moved south. I still have a few cams up that have been soaking since last spring, so who knows what will be on them. Theyre still unreachable for a while due to road conditions.
-
Will be interesting to see if once the wolves move out if the game came back.

Thanks, who is collaring bears? Any idea on time line and goals?
No clue what thats about. Maybe part of the predator / prey study theyre doing. Saw a collared doe in my neighborhood from that. If that bear is in fact part of the predator/prey study, thats a joke. Theyd need to collar mature boars to really see what is going on.

My guess is they are studying how far/where the bear travels as it matures.

Ill be calling on this mountain next thursday. Not going to be too near this camera though. For one i have salt there, and for two, i have a big buck there ive been watching for 5 years now, and ill be hunting this spot for him sept 1st. Dont want to spook him, hes a regular at this site. Anyway, i think i just might crap myself if i call this big pig in.

Was scouting in the selkirks last weekend and saw a decent bear, I've never seen so much bear sign in my life. We are heading back to check cameras, scout and hopefully kill a bear or two on the opener. So yes, bring two tags!! Side note, please let me know when your hunting bears if you see a big moose!

Several big moose where ill be bear hunting. Walked right up on a good bull the other day while i was wandering around stuffing my face with huckleberries. Not 113 though.

Just the once so far. Just started doing the video mode thing though. Do have a video of a coyote killing something behind some brush, and a bird freaking out at it.

Just a few unwanted guests on the back yard cam this week.

It amazes me the amount of daytime pics you get of predators.

Got em on video too, one of these days ill set up a full vimeo account so i can dump all my daylight videos here. That cat, and the last one to walk that trail (maybe same cat, i dont know) both stopped to pee in the exact same spot, and swished their tails around like angry snakes when they did it. Im probably going to set a couple video cameras up on mock scrapes this fall, so ill probably just wait to do the paid vimeo account until then.

you keep a journal? To log your cameras and locations, keep notes of what you have where?
Or do you just drop pins on onx? but I could see missing camera checks just by doing that.
-
I keep a list of my cameras, with dates of fresh batteries. I also mark them on my gps. If i ever lose my gps and the wrong person finds it, it would not be good. They could clean me out.

I set this cam up on the 24th next to a spring, figured it would be a good place to get pics of some big bucks coming in for water. What i got on cam was a few days of bears, then on the 29th a bear climbed the tree, ripped the cam off the mount breaking the threaded part off the cam, broke the lens and left the camera laying on the ground. Man bears are jerks

I texted the pics of him to a friend thats a trapper, told him if he wants him he can help himself. He didnt respond. :dunno:

Is that cat right by your house?!!! :yike: That thing needs whacked!
-
Yeah thats my house in the background of some of those pics. This one was in the middle of the damn day. Ive had one cat staring at me through my living room window, and another snuck up on me while i was out taking a break from doing yardwork. And chased several bears out of the back yard, heard wolves howling around the house several times. And im not in the boonies, hell, im on a paved road. Theres a good reason i thinned out and limbed up the trees around my house. Makes it a little less creepy when a guy steps outside to take a leak in the dark. It used to be a solid wall of green, critters could be 15 yards from my porch and i wouldnt be able to see them.
-
Bango, that Pileated Woodpecker on the log is cool!
Those are what woody woodpecker was modeled after.
They're a real punk-rock looking bird.
-
Looks like hes peckin the log where a cougar shredded it a couple years ago. I took this pic i think just the next day after the cat shredded it. Got her on cam working the log.
-
That’s a cool catch
-
Stay safe in there Bango. Damn predator pit, could be cat or bear around every corner!
-
Last time I turkey hunted over by you Bango the tracks were all cat and wolves......Since my first encounter with that black solo wolf a couple of years ago the 40 and 45 stay home and the 41 Mag goes with me now.
-
-
What was that in its path?
-
Some trimmed bones and a bloodshot blownout shoulder from my bear. Apparently the cat thought it was suspicious.

Curiosity killed the cat, he wasn’t going to take any chances that day.

What model of Stealth Cam is this that you're using? Those are some good looking videos.
-
Ds4k
Takes 256gig sd cards, good battery life, so good for video. But, mediocre still pics, seems like a slow video trigger, and usually misses small stuff like bobs, skunks etc. Can take tons of video without filling up card capacity or burning batts out though.

You talking about here where everything keeps snoopin about under this tree and peeing? Some kinda bulletin board for the local troublemakers i guess. :dunno: i actually took that cam down, but after seeing how all the predators seem focused on that one little spot im going to set it back up, but ill set it up lower and closer for better quality pics. I have a treestand up that ive never hunted (yet) about 50 yards south of that skidder, and called my lion in last year about 50 yards south of that stand.
-
Bango, great photos, if you only put two photos per post and then make another post with two more photos, etc, etc, your topic will be easier to view for a lot of the members.
-
Ill do that. Lately this thread will randomly do this to me when i try to reply. Maybe i broke the thread with too many pics. Ill just start a new thread next time i post, and keep it to two per.
-
Yeah, these photo heavy topics cause that to happen. If you close your browser page and reopen it will most likely load the page again. But it will definitely help if you only put a couple photos per post.
If you want to repost a few of the photos, two to a post, I'll go back and delete the reposted photos so it lightens the load on some posts.
