loading hunting rounds for the season tonight.cant keep my mind off season starting up. :chuckle:
-
Now that we're close...
August 1st, is a Saturday. I'm going to be out there. I have a place I've been scouting. It should be an awesome experience... kayaking in, hiking some, camping, glassing and glassing, spotting (hopefully), stalking, etc...
I predict good times.
Good luck to everyone.

I'm buying new optics this weekend. Haven't decided on 15x50 viper hd or 15x56 vulture hd binos or 15-45 viper hd spotter.
And Trying to decide on buying my normal 150gr Hornady sst superformance ammo or having my cousin load me up 100 rounds of 150 or 175 accubond lr rounds for my 7mag. So i enough to dial in a new drop chart
Not much time to get my act together. But I'm super excites after 3 very hard hunted seasons and getting my first bear last October. I'm very confident in this coming season.
-
I cant wait. Got my spot to try again this year. Just gotta avoid getting busted again. Time to go check on thr berry ripening progress!
-
Thee best excuse to get out in the woods and enjoy the summer. I'm never far from ready and will be in camp 31st for sure. Like earlier mentioned, it should be a grand experience this year.
-
Ive been thinking about it ALL YEAR. Bear fever for sure, unfortunately I have to wait till September 1st because that's when my area opens. But I have a new rifle ready for a kill. Here's my Remington 700sps 30-06, Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14×40mm, KRG bolt lift. Already had my tag scince I tried for spring permit. Good luck everyone this fall.
-
I'm already amazed at all the ripe berries I am seeing coming on. They are everywhere! Find a good berry patch and you'll be on the bears. By August 1st there should already be piles of berry filled sign everywhere. Good luck to all!
-
I got my bear fix this last spring, good luck guys/gals!
-
Almost in pacing mode.
-
:yeah:
I think I'm already there.
-
Bear mode indeed. Can't wait. nice spring bear, trophyhunt

black berries are already coming in on my property....im definitely ready to go out and chase some bears...or rather, have them chase me. Best of luck to all!
-
I'm mounting my scope on tonight and then its off to the gun range friday  , I cant wait to get out there and hopefully find a nice blonde one. Good luck to everyone heading out on the opener!!!
-
Got on the bears last year but didn't connect. Now I have the area figured out pretty well, built/ converted a new .35 Whelen to carry, got a sweet new Pelican cooler for the truck, and the land got shut down due to fire danger. Time for plan B.
-
Never shot one, don't know where to go or what to look for other than berries, but I'll be there. In other words, a pretty normal hunting outing for me.

Berries are coming on good. Look for fresh poop, tracks, stumps worked over, glass, and leg work. Happy bear hunting

I'll be out there on the weekends this season, down here in Oregon. The non-resident tags for deer and elk are too expensive, so I'm just doing bear this year. I'm going to hunt the coastal range and hopefully learn good spots for deer and elk while I'm at it.
The problem is I can't find any bear sign! I've been scouting every weekend this spring and not a single pile of *censored*. There's tons of ground I haven't looked at though, so I'll just continue scouting while I'm carrying my rifle. When I find the patch I'm looking for, I'll start calling.
-
I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but August 1 is my first day of retirement! :IBCOOL: :chuckle: You know I'll be out there.
-
Hopefully some berries are left by 8/1. They came on early this year.
-
this is my third year Hunting them and now I know some good spots and have two trips planned to try to punch a tag this year
-
I took a nice 220lbs meat bear this year on the spring hunt, so I'll be after a trophy this fall season. I always try to get close as I can, and do, but hoping for a longish shot(200-250) with the peep sight to help determine if I should scope it or not possibly for elk.
-
I'm hoping I'll be ready. Knee got a little banged up yesterday. A dog tried attacking a horse yesterday and the ruckus ended up in my yard, aftermath was a little limp. But fared better than the dog.
-
Well ill tell ya , I went up noeth to the property 3 days ago g.m.u. 121 and it is so dry up there and the ticks are terrible put up the cams and im very excited to see if things are like last year !if it is im all in for my second season as a bear hunter in a attempt to make things a little safer and continue the quest for a self made rug for crap sakes. came so close in my first year im more ready so stay tuned.
-
I will be at the Gorge for Watershed on the first but will be out there the following weekend. I found my bear last summer - saw him on two separate occasions a month apart. This yeah I'll get him.

Just pack a good lunch and be patient. Cover, water and berries, might be a place to start.
-
Not coming fast enough!! Are we their yet, are we their yet, are we their yet... :chuckle:
-
Counting the days. It will be interesting to see how the dry weather this year affects them. We've had bears roaming around our neighborhood already raiding fruit trees and bird feeders in the broad daylight. We usually don't see them until the fall, fattening up for the winter.
-
The berries up high are a little smaller than usual but there are plenty and they are a little early. This pic is from yesterday. Good luck to those who chase them in the high country, should be a good year.
-
I'm more than ready! I'm super duper mega excited for the season to open. I have a new 308 sighted in and ready to roar. Berries are ripening and hopefully it will cool down a little bit in the next 2 weeks.
-
Holy smokes...............just realised that is two weeks away. Get it on!
-
I am ready! I will be in the Alpine lakes area, if anyone else is up there, PM me and I will give you our radio channel just in case anyone needs assistance or wants to let me know where the bears are ;)
Good luck everyone and be safe!
-
I'll be in the high country for the opener. Never specifically hunted for bear but usually have a chance to harvest a handful in September on te high hunt just never have, need to draw some blood with the new .280 AI before October!
-
I'm ready.
-
Looking forward to it. I basically use August bear hunting to scout blacktail.

me too.
-
I've been ready since the end of last season! I'm excited to render some bear fat this year, put a bunch of meat in the freezer, and make a new rug. I also hope it cools down a bit though.
-

X3 love hunting and scouting at the same time.
-
I've been ready since August 1st last year!!!
-
The thought it there, just no time to do it this year. Will be out on vacation starting the 1st for a few weeks.
-
I will be out and around. I have a friend that has never shot a bear so I am taking him out on Friday night (to camp), Sat and Sunday and hopefully we can get one. I know there is a big guy in my area that I hunt and quite a few smaller ones although I have not been scouting there at all since I have been focusing mostly on fishing and scouting elk.
Good luck everyone, keep the pictures rolling.
-
Went to check my cams yesterday.....my main area is closed by the owners.....fire danger. Shucks........don't think I will get to hunt it for deer/bear this year. I need to go knock on a door and ask if I can walk in and pull my cams.

Never tried bear hunting...but ran into two of them checking my elk cameras in the 560....

I've got the same problem with my cams, and it really bums me out that I may be sitting bear out when I was so close twice last year. Oh well, looking for new spots is never a bad thing.
-
Heck yeah, Mt. Baker forest here I come! Backpacking up to the high country on July 31, pitch the tent, get some sleep, pressing 'start' on the season come the AM on Aug 1.
-
I'll be out there, somewhere. First time hunting bear for me. Wish me some luck, I really need to fill my freezer this year.
-
Sorry Im not cause Ill be in Alaska.
-
Just picked up my license today :IBCOOL:

Let's all go!

I like the sound of that. Best of luck to one and all. Aim true, and remember that heat you will be dealing with early on!
-
It's getting harder and harder waiting. I feels like the Corp all over hurry up and wait, only 2 days to go
-
I'm getting ready for a solo backpacking excursion into the Olympics. Finishing up some handloads for my 280 Ackley tonight. Did a scouting trip last weekend and the huckleberry fields are primed. If I'm successful going to have to do a quick debone and stage meet in a creek bottom while I leap frog it out to the trail head.
-
i know that the taller huckleberries are ripe up high. Are the shorter blueberries ripe too? usually they are a few weeks after the hucks....
-
the low bush berries were starting to come on about the 4,000 ft level but I don't think they will be at peak for a couple more weeks.
-
Hitting the trailhead 0500 Saturday the 15th... :IBCOOL:
-
Just confirmed with my uncle. Headed to Northport September 4th-8th, then to Tower mountain area to hunt with my brother in law September 11-13th. ITS NOT SOON ENOUGH, MY TRIGGER FINGER IS ITCHING! :chuckle:
-
Setup my "base camp" today and hit the trails for a hike/scouting trip. It was hot even up in the higher altitudes. With the heat this weekend, I may pass on shooting depending on how far in we are. I am not a fan of wasted meat and with the forecasted weather, we would have to haul booty off the mountain to prevent spoilage. I will scout again early in the morning and track some temps as I climb and look for flowing creeks. My camp is setup to another bear hunter and he is thinking the same thing... good thing we brought our fly poles lol.
Just a quick "dad" comment to fellow hunters (from my wife to me :)) Please be safe, know your physical limits and your targets, and stay hydrated in this heat.
Best of luck!
-
Headed up this afternoon to the gpw. Hiking in and staying for the weekend. First big trip of the year. I'm taking two friends and my cousin. I'm not packing a rifle this trip. I decided to take the 41 magnum this time. Thought it would be fun to shoot one up close. Have fun guys!
-
What I seen coming over North Cross a few days ago has me worried about the Blue Berry situation ..I took a short walk in an area that always has blueberries about the 1st week of September and all I found was a sheet load of dried up and dead berries :yike: The plants were already turning red ! I think if a guy finds berries now he best try hard to fill his tag ..Never seen anything like it . Doubt I will go ..just to hot ! But again I can always get that wild hair that has to go :dunno: :chuckle:  Good luck guys
-
One good thing about berries not doing so good. All you gotta do is find that one hillside with good berries and just wait :chuckle:
-
Well....I think my bear hunting plans just took a hit. I suppose buying a house is going to get in the way. Stupid new house.
-
Kind of thinking it might be a little more crowded than usual because so many fishing closures, but guess we'll see.

I've been noticing the same things, in regards to the berries... :bash:
-
Saw a bear last night at 70 yards on a scouting trip... i'm sure he'll figure out how to disappear before tomorrow morning. What do I care though, I'll be drunk at seafair.

Bummer but Congrats at the same time!

THe wife almost got hers last week on old 99 near Offut lake. She said that from nose to rump was as wide as my Daughter's truck. A little over 6 feet. She said that it was so rolly, polly fat that it looked like it didn't have legs. :chuckle: If anyone Knows the Nelson's from Tenino, it was running through their ranch. I plan on taking my Daughter to a secret spot in Vail next weekend to try and get her one.
-
Behind my land. I'm next to Wolfhaven. Rick

Best of luck to everyone hunting opening day! I hope you get an easy chip shot on a great bear. Remember to get em skinned and cooled as quickly as possible! GET A BIGGIN!!!!!!
-
Need to get a babysitter. Been a long time since I missed any sort of opener.....grrrrr
-
Hopefully I will find a smokey bear before work and shoot him. He and his cousins have been giving me bad luck this summer.
-

If Kapowsin wasn't closed, I would be out right now. Dang It.

Black bear lives matter!!
-
Where are all the success photos? :dunno:
on the mountain. Saw two nice bears Saturday morning. Couldn't get close enough for a shot. It was way to hot to shoot one anyways. By the time we would have got to the truck the meat probably wouldn't be any good. Saw some huge bucks. Come on September 15!
-
Up in teanaway myself. Bump a bear this morning and yes very hot
