Title: 1-32" Twist Rate Question
Post by: MountainWalk on July 21, 2015, 06:49:33 PM: He's guys. I just won my first online auction and picked up. CVA express .50 double rifle. Think the twist rate is 1-32".

Primarily, this question is geared towards elk bullets, with ranges no further than 150yards. I have no biased bullet preference concerning ML' s.
Also, powder charges. Seems like my best bet would be 90-100grns. How far off am i? Thanks guys.

Personally, I don't think you'll be shooting 150 yards with a double barrel unless each barrel has its own sights. Double barrels were normally up close and personal "charging animals" kind of weapons.

You'd be surprised at the amount of iron sighted shooting I do. Seller informed me that he had shot it only at 100yes, PRB, and both barrels were within 2-3 inches of each other. I'm quite sure 150 isn't too far a stretch.....

Now, I think I was talking about bullets and balls.....

But 90 grains of FF sounds like a good solid charge.
I know that mine with 1:60 does good with solids, and 1:28 rifles are good for the smaller/longer sabots, so you should be good with a big sabot (I think).
Can always sight in for one barrel and keep the second for close up.

Post by: MountainWalk on July 21, 2015, 08:16:29 PM: Thought about two charges, and the pros-cons. I am used to double triggers, so the practical use of individual barrels ain't a stretch. May be too much hassle, making two horn measures for each barrel.

I believe the only one barrel thing applies to ML elk and deer. So if I wanted to ba'r hunt with both charged, I think I could.

As far as distance, true, I do hope to shoot at archery ranges. Always try to no matter the gun, if I can. That'd just me. Buuuut elk are where you see them. No fair opportunity shall be wasted. Thanks Jimmy.
