Title: Not what pack...but when???
Post by: Mr.T on July 22, 2015, 04:44:05 PM
Looks like I'm going to get some Bear specific hunting in this year (and very excited about that) vs. carrying a tag "just in case" while hunting deer.

Bear hunters...Question for you...do you A) wear a pack you can haul meat out on while your hunting or B) do you get your meat hauling pack from your rig after the fact?

I prefer to run a pack that allows me to haul a first load out for all my big game hunting, right now I have a ll bean carryall, it holds everything I need for a day hunt, plus has pretty dang good freighter abilities.

I do want to upgrade to a better pack set, I think I will go with the horn hunter full curl setup soon.

My pack is almost always with me if further than a couple hundred yards from the rig.  Hunt harder with the extra water I can carry.  And my pack doubles as my shooting rest.  Bear are the one animal you want NO mistakes when shooting to a known rest really comes in handy no matter how far from the truck you are!

I throw it over seat of the mt bike with the head over the handle bars and ride it out or walk it.

If I am on anything more than a quick inspection of an area then I carry a pack.  Unless I don't  :chuckle:

Last year when I killed my elk I was on one of these cursory inspections and had nothing and had to head back to the truck.  Not the end of the world but could have got some field pictures and saved some time.
