So my buddy got an E-mail yesterday from WDFW saying he had won the Goat Raffle tag. :yike:
Says he's got Sept 1 - December 31, any unit with at least 2 tags.
He's asked me to help, but we don't know squat about goats, and even less about what unit(s) we should even look at. Unless driving on 12, 90, or fishing on Lake Chelan counts, we've never even seen the goat units. So were hoping you boys would be so gracious as to provide suggestions on units we should focus on.
A few parameters to maybe keep in mind:
The guys doing this hunt aren't marathon runners, or even backpack hunters.
He'd like to include his father(60+) in this hunt if possible.
He'd like to get a decent Billy.
Pack stock may or may not be an option, likely not.
Vacation timing/length shouldn't be any issue.
He'll be hunting with a rifle.
Thanks in advance!

Chinook pass outfitters run horses out of crystal mountain, prob cost around 60 bucks to get you guys to the crest trail. From there it's pretty easy walking, lots of goats by Norse peak. Not sure if it's in he unit or not? Would love to help if I can and your in the area, took a pic of a goat I was within 40 yards of a month ago. Congrats on the tag!

Tbar on here says you have to hunt on the east side of the crest trail, so you can't hunt the top of Norse peak.

pm sent. do that and you will get a good goat.

Refresh my memory. I'm thinking either the guys that tried to get around the hill to the big one but got cliffed out, or the guys and gal that we passed while packing meat out, think they had a bear down. Or maybe the guys camped under a tarp near the peak when we was headed out, or the bandanna dude from Wenatchee.......place was a bit busy at times, but lots of fun.
Don't have the goats no more. Too much work. :twocents:
