2007 - 1st or 2nd largest bodied blacktail I've taken and likely just past his prime.  Opening day, probably at least 3 weeks prior to when the rut normally starts.  The next pic shows how absolutely huge his neck and body was.

Wrapped up and ready to roll on my elk cart with a few miles yet to go.  His rack was Sitka-esque in color and shape.    Most deer get pretty slim and 'snakey' lookin' when gutted.....not this guy.  This was a very fun, tough and memorable hunt.

Link it's posts like yours that almost make me hate posting pictures and stories. I know people are going to have there different opinions. But I'm very sure that most people on this forum already know that I-5 is the boundary for Columbia blacktail ad Cascade blacktail. But with that being said I can tell you this I have never seen a mule deer anywhere close to where I harvested my buck.

I didn't mention your buck. Your picture only shows a head. Where did you get that? And by the way I-5 isn't the columbian blacktail boundary, its basically the crest of the cascades. Its kind of hard to describe without a map, but it runs down the spine of the cascades to Mt. Rainier park, along the west boundary of the park, then south.

Its kind of hard to describe without a map, but it runs down the spine of the cascades to Mt. Rainier park, along the west boundary of the park, then south.

"Beginning at the Washington-British Columbia border, the boundary line runs south along the west boundary of North Cascades National Park to the range line between R10E and R11E, Willamette Meridian, which is then followed directly south to its intersection with the township line between T18N and T17N, which is then followed westward until it connects with the north border of Mt. Rainier National Park, then along the north, west and south park boundaries until it intersects with the range line between R9E and R10E, Willamette Meridian, which is then followed directly south to the Columbia River near Cook"

You can find historical maps online which show the township boundaries mentioned between NCNP and MRNP, and last time I looked it is east of the eastern border of MRNP.

There's definitely a grey area all along the western slope of the cascades. I don't think 1-5 should be the boundary, but I think the crest is a bit far east. We all know there are cross deer all up and down the cascades on the west side, and east side for that matter.

What would make you possibly think he was referring to your buck? There are no pine trees or oaks in any of your pics. Why so defensive? Beautiful bucks by the way.

I apologize I believe when I wrote that I confused myself with the Boone and Crockett Roosevelt elk boundary I believe.? Sorry about that my bad. You are right the Pacific crest trail is really the boundary line. I know either way Boone and Crockett doesn't recognize Cascade blacktail as a category. But with that being said all the bucks posted are amazing in there own right! I truly am sorry for posting something before getting my facts right.

My 145 7/8 is net score. Gross score 149 6/8. Not quite 150 but close enough for me. And I have seen a few bucks bigger than mine from the same area. There is a great gene pool that is just not being hunted that much. Last year I was scouting this same area I watched a sow with three cubs playing, and less than 200 yards away from the bears was a monster 4X4 and a 2pt that was probably well over 24 wide and TALL.

I don't know the score of any of these but I wanted to share. These are a few that my parents have taken over the years.

This is Clyde, so named by the folks who stopped by after my parents got him to the road. A friend of the passersby had shot at him with a 45 and put a hole in his ear. I've always been impressed by Clyde.

This next one my mom shot in 2003, only a forky but nice mass and lengths. Wider and taller than Clyde.

And this guy was shot by yours truly the next year on the opposite side of the canyon from the previous photos. Surely the same gene pool.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi693.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fvv300%2FBungholio%2FHunting%2FIMAG0570.jpg&hash=6070a1caf174fc257b247fe12e7d8d890855eb26) (http://s693.photobucket.com/user/Bungholio/media/Hunting/IMAG0570.jpg.html)

These next 2 are impressive because they are so gnarly at the bases and wide for the height.

Son .. I watched that vid a few times and I just watched it again ...It still gives me goose bumps every time I watch it ....to see a blacktail like that in the summer and then return in the fall and he is still there and you kill it ..There is nothing that could beat that ...I believe an angel had something to do with it !

Thanks for the comments guys!  I feel the same way.

Any other pics of that brute?

Sorry Link I thought responded, Sundance did a great job on the the Euro while showing me how to DIY. I haven't had it officially scored, but if I do it should make "book", want to guess?  For ref, the boy is 6'1" broad shoulders and XL mits.  Geographically well west of I5

Sure, I'll throw out a guess. Its so hard scoring from a pic, but I'd say he grosses 150 and nets about 141.
Here's my blacktail from last year. It grossed just under 140 and netted about 136.

:yeah:  Quite a bit longer tines!

I'm blown away that that deer was out walking around like nobodies buisness west of I-5 in WA.  CA and Southern OR - I could choke it down a little easier.  You gotta get that thing scored - that buck is probably cursing you from deer heaven for taking so much time to measure his massive endowment!  (plus - we want to know too.)

Found this years mark.  Bigger than my other ones by far. No time to count points,  but he sure was thick and wide.
