Title: Need new release i think
Post by: huntingbaldguy on August 05, 2015, 02:34:27 AM
Ok, so i've been pondering a new release for a few reasons.  The biggest is that with my skinny wrists, my Cobra Serpent is too long and i have it on the shortest setting and tightest it can get on my wrist.  I could try to modify it, because i really like it.  I like the sensitivity and the trigger and all that, it's just my finger as fully extended at full draw and i know that can cause consistency issues.

So i've been eyeballing the T.R.U. Ball Fang.  Does anyone have this release, and if so, do you like it?  It seems like it would adjust short enough for my needs.  I did get to try it out my last trip to cabelas, but not with my bow in hand.  I'm kind of thinking to go to a shop that has it and will let me bring my bow in to shoot with it.  I really think i need something i can get at least one knuckle around like in Rad's recent posts in his sticky.  I'm not currently having consistency issues, i'm just concerned that i could develop some kind of problem like TP if i go into the hunting season thinking i'm just going to be able to put everything together with an animal in front of me.

If anyone has any input i'm all ears.  Here's a picture to help with any form questions.  I know my anchor point is really high but it's because of my peep.  I think because of that my nose isn't always right on the string also, because it doesn't just fall there naturally, i have to consciously put it there and i didn't in this pic and don't every shot i don't think.  Also, any input on whether you think my nock point is too high?  I feel like in every pic my wife takes the arrow is tilted down.  Anyways, to the pic.

I'd bet it would take less than a day, after getting the TruBall Fang, before you stop saying you like the Cobra :chuckle:  Like comparing round steak to Ribeye - Both edible, but one is Oh so much Better!! ;)

If you have small wrists and hands I would go with the webstrap version.  I spent a good bit of time with this release.  Closest I've ever come to replacing the Carter.  You should be very happy with it!

I know my anchor point is really high but it's because of my peep.

A good Pro-Shop shop could get that peep moved in no time!  Though Mid-August might be a little late to mess with your bow for this season.

Arrow might be a little tail high :dunno:  But if the arrow flight is good and field points shoot with broadheads...don't move a thing!

All good points.  So by the webstrap version you mean the velcro right?  Yeah i figured with some trigger time i would like the fang better than my cobra.  I was thinking the Fang RC because i like the red rope system.  I just haven't seen it in the velcro, only buckle.

So i guess as long as i keep grouping good, get the release and leave the bow alone, then after the season is over, get all these little things i'm being anal about sorted out huh?  It makes sense, that's why i posted, hoping someone would shed some light on some stress points for me.

I've never played with the RC.  That should work well too.  The Webstrap version is similar.  Just uses web belt material instead of rope.  Velcro or buckle - either by personal preference.

Rad, what do you have to say about his finger being fully extended to get to the trigger.  The first release I had (some $29.99 beauty) was such that my finger had to reach way forward to punch it  :chuckle:

Now though, my Scott release trigger is right up on the initial joint of my finger and feels so much more comfortable.  Is this as big of a factor as it seems to me?  Or is it more because the new release is that much higher quality?

I was under the impression that was the whole reason for the OP :dunno:  His desire to get a new release to better the position of the release, in my opinion, is the right one!

I agree that a shorter release would be a huge benefit. I use a Scott with the strap instead of the metal connecting system. It's very adjustable as I am sure the try ball is the same idea. I like the buckle wrist strap over Velcro for consistency.
Good luck this season!

:yeah:  I very much like the Scott with the strap!  having an erect "thing" always sprouting from my wrist seems odd...  :yike: :chuckle:

Gotcha  wasn't sure if you were addressing that specifically or just that the Fang is higher in quality overall.  Always good to hear your voice on these subjects  ;)

:yeah:  I love my Scott Silverhorn w/strap, it's infinately adjustable.  I can hook it to my loop easily by feel, no need to look.

Well, i got the new release, the one mentioned in my post, T.R.U. Ball Fang RC.  I like it but i need my peep raised.  It's significantly shorter so my view through the peep has to be forced.  I group well with it, actually better than my other release despite the peep being low, but consistently low groups, and it has to be because i'm ducking my head to sight.  That's ok though, i'll have it moved up on Thursday.  Driving right by where we bought the bows on the way to the coast.  Going to have them check timing and all that too, make sure we are still good.  I also need to get them to replace my D-loop.  It is set off the to side, which bugs the heck out of me and has since day one.  Overall happy with my purchase though, i made a good choice!

Try a Spot Hogg Wise Guy. By far my favorite wrist strap release. It shortens up easily. Zero trigger travel.
