So I'm looking into getting a new rifle and thinking about optics... I currently have a Leupold vx-1 4x12x40mm. I've been looking at vortex viper hs 4x16x44 or 50 I guess.
What are your experiences with this scope? Is it nice enough that I should sell my Leupold and spend a little extra for the viper? Most everything I read on them is good.
Is the 50 a better choice or is the 44 sufficient?

I have one as well. Haven't had it long but so far so good!

I have two Viper PST's 4-16x50 and 6-24x50. I can't complain on one bit. Very happy

I like the Viper but you may want to go into a store, try it, and check out the eye relief. Sometimes the Vortex scopes are a little tighter than the Leupolds...just my experience.

Just in my small experience with vortex scopes.. Have a viper pst 6-24x50 and only had it in the field one day and my Occular lense busted loose (lost o-ring or never had one to start).. Have had leupolds for years, have dropped them, wadded up on dirtbikes with them, dented them, and still never lost zero or broke.. Probably headed back to leupold if that is the quality control a customer gets for a 1k optic through vortex. You have to trust your gear!
