Im a 2nd year hunter in western Washington. I want to hunt the packwood/randle gmu's this year and need some access, directions, any info you are willing to pass on. My friend is coming over for elk season from Montana and I dont want to let him down. Thanks

Does your friend have elk figured out in Montana?
-
He has more expierience than I, and he is from Washington so its like coming home for him. He just arrowed a 6x6 in south Montana, so hes 1 up on me
-
I have been hunting both those units for about 10 years. You really can't go wrong anywhere up there. The elk are all over.
-
And same with the people every where...
-
There is a ton of access to NF if you go South out of Randle and take either the 23 or 25 road. Go far enough and you'll be into the Lewis River unit. Check the Gifford Pinchot NF web site for trail maps, lots of options for camping and trails.

How about updating again ?
I am thinking about bringing my 11 y/o out there, I am not hunting, it is all about her.
Would like to at least hear an elk bugle.
Anyplace there is a gate right alongside the pavement we could walk for a while ?

No elk in packwood

Did not see any in Randle today, lots of hunters, did not hear any shots, or see any sh..
nice walk with my daughter though.

You could go east of Randle 1 mile, look in the fields on the North side of the highway and drool like everybody else does. Atleast your daughter would hear one bugle. Good luck.
