I got this bull on my cam recently. He was only there one night then sheep were herded through and the action stopped in this spot. Hopefully it bounces back. I am on the fence whether he is legal or not. It would be nice if he came back and offered up some more pics.
-
Looks like a legal spike to me in a spike only unit. Would like a little clearer pic to be 100% sure.
-
as long as his left antler is only a spike, or doesn't have extra points originating more than 4" from the skull, he is legal. Drop that hammer.
-
How do you deal with an antler that is obviously broken off?

From what I understand if the break makes it a spike, it then becomes legal in a spike unit.

kinda silly if that's how it works, what stops me from shooting a branch antler, then breaking it off to make it a spike? :dunno:

your conscience might.

If it is broke off while growing, there is an obvious difference between that and if you broke it off. Now if he broke it off during a fight or something that is a whole new can of worms.
-
Great, I'm virtually guaranteed of seeing a broke off this season now.
-
Boom!! That is if it's a spike unit and not a true spike unit like 328 and such
-
Why not pass on it and let him come back next season with a full rack?
Because it's legal and delicious.
-
Start peeling the garlic........

And with a full rack he is no longer legal.
-
I think this rule needs to change.

To what?

I think this rule needs to change.
To what?
And why?

I just think it would make things a whole lot simpler if a it was limited on antler points on the opposite side of the spike. I don't think killing a 1x6 is really the age class of bulls the game department has in mind for a spike area.

So like only a 1x3 could be killed?
Seems like the number of 1x5, 1x6 or 1x7's killed each year is so minimal that we would be wasting time trying to split hairs. :twocents:

They should change it to "any raghorn"

but here we are every year answering questions on is this bull legal or not. I just think edge could come of with a better system on what's legal or not.
