After 5 years I can finally say I was able to notch a tag. Over the years I've had numerous opportunities but things weren't always lined up perfect for a shot, I was beginning to think I was just destined to be a shed hunter... I finally found a dedicated hunting partner who loves the back country as me so we set of to scout a few trailless basins for the high hunt. Dawn came and we were set up on our spotters glassing when I immediately picked out a large bear feeding across the basin. We worked our way to 200 yards of it where we had planned to shoot it. He had fed down towards the Christmas trees by the time we got to 200 so we tried to cut the distance even more incase he was able to run a little. In the two minutes it took to do that he had made his way into the thick trees and we never saw him again.
On the way back to camp we glassed another bear with an awesome white patch on its chest quickly feeding out of our basin, we tried to move on it but she was gone by the time we got to shooting position. Fast forward to that evening glassing and my partner whispers "bear" I grab my rifle and get to his spot and there she was feeding out below. Laid my bag down on the rocks and and took a shot as she steped into a small clearing. She immediately crumpled to the ground then took a quick 20 foot sprint and collapsed without a noise. We made our way down to her and realized it was the bear with the patch we had spotted earlier that day. Boned her out and separated the meat to cool for our pack out in the morning. It was an emotional experience after being at it for so long, just had to find someone willing to go to places less traveld. Also glasses quite a few bucks that weekend.

One thing that'll be cool for you: it gets easier from herein. Something about pulling the trigger on that first animal and getting up to your elbows in blood brings things together and filling successive tags gets much more regular :IBCOOL:
