I'm super bummed !! My brother and I decided to officially cancel our early archery hunt for this season.. I recently moved out of state and I was the "scouting guy" for us usually. Our area we were going to go hunt was primarily on private timber property and is currently closed and likely won't re-open for early archery. Granted the state land is open, but I haven't scouted it much at all. My brother is a single dad with two young boys living with him full time so won't be able to make the drive for scouting before the season opens.. I was also worried about the crowds on the left over public lands still open to hunting. We had to decide today before I booked my flights to get up home. So unfortunately we decided to cancel and will be hunting hard during the westside late season.. I'm super disapointed about it, but it's nothing compared to what other people are dealing with right now so.. Anyone else changing there plans for this year?

Feeling the pain. Our intended area in Lick Creek is closed and what is left open is very limited. Was taking my 78 year old Dad, who needs the easy walk-in access afforded by the gated roads in Lick Creek. Looking at some places I know in Rimrock, but the access and hunter density is really different. Wishing he could still backpack hunt with me--that would make it real easy.

My brother and I have done a few backpack hunts and not sure why we started hunting the timberland property? My goal the next year or two is to do WAAAAY more pack/hunting trips.. Good luck out there with your dad. !

More about spending time with buds

Sorry to hear. I'm holding out hope that my elk hunt spot will open up with this rain but it doesn't look good. If it doesn't i'll dedicate elk season to chasing blacktails and hope we can get a cow in late season.

Late archery season is fun! Hopefully you guys can find a way to put a late hunt together. Mostly cows, but some of the wife and my favorite memories have been late cow hunts. Can be some real good bucks to be had during that late hunt too

That's a shame about you missing out on this year.
The rains have started on the coast, looks like "normal" weather the next few weeks.
But I can understand your reluctance to take a chance.
Might as well see if you can find a place to shoot some pigs instead.

Might be the case for more than a few folks this year
