Title: Location of a/c unit in meat locker
Post by: xxlx7 on August 30, 2015, 10:12:14 AM: I am wrapping up the insulation and walls on my meat locker, its 11' 6" x 9' 6" with a 7'2" ceiling height. I'm trying to figure out a good location for the wall unit, I'm not sure if I should put it on the same wall as the door facing the rear of the room, or put it on the west wall opposite end of the door facing across the room. My door is on the east wall.

Post by: tracksoup on August 30, 2015, 11:01:38 AM: I'm not sure it matters too much? I put mine on the width wall opposite of the door with the A/C unit blowing the length of the room. It has worked out well for me. Don't forget to shim your A/C unit slightly for good condensation drainage.

If you use a coolbot with the ac unit, you can easily get 38-42 degrees. I run mine at 38 or 40 degrees and have had no problems.

I held 35 for a week with my buddies spring bear, and held around 38 during a test run in the hot weather a few weeks ago. I still have a few small spots to seal (around the a/c). Cool bot set at 35 for both. On the 6' side I have a 34" door and my a/c unit.

Inside dimensions are 7'x11'x9' high and I think I put an 18,000 btu unit in it. It will hold down to 33-34 degrees, but I don't want to take the chance of frosting the fins so I never go below 36 degrees. After set I have notice the coolbot will fluctuate 2 degrees +/- as it cycles. I set my at 38 and it will keep it between 36 and 40 which is plenty cool. I have 8" insulation on all sides. I have hung elk in it wor 12-14 days with great results.

Post by: andersonjk4 on August 31, 2015, 10:00:27 AM: I would locate the unit where ever it gets the best airflow both on the inside and outside of the cooler. Good airflow and heat rejection on the outside portion of the unit is key to allow the a/c unit to operate more efficiently and at the maximum capacity possible. Other than airflow, convenience would be my next consideration. Hope this helps. Post up some pics of your completed outfit when you get it up and running. Good luck.
