You do have a badger running around those parts now. I got a few pic of it on my trail cam.

And it will be my first bowhunt as well.I have a multi season tag this year so I'm gonna try not to tag out on the first legal deer I see. But no promises. Gonna try for a wall hanger! Good luck everybody.

Show me the bucks!

I tagged a doe this morning around 8 am. I was happy to get some meat and move on to getting ready for elk.
-
Show me the bucks!
:yeah:
-
Nice one BullBlaster! Nice to see someone scored.
I sat in a blind for 5 hours this am with no action. It poured rain and was pretty windy much of the time. I think the blacktails were waiting it out till evening. I bailed out of the blind and bumped a doe and fawn about 10 minutes later that were bedded about 50 yards from where I spent my morning. It was great to be out hunting again!
-
I don't think I could shoot one unless it was a monster on the first morning. I dream all year of the hunt. It reminds me of losing your virginity. You,dream about it and it's over before you start. :chuckle:
-
I heard a rumor of a giant being shot a little bit ago. :chuckle: :IBCOOL:
-
One year ban. Unless pictures are provided

Beautiful deer, way to go.

Set my personal best today and saw 28 blacktail!! 6 bucks. All forked horns or spikes. Had one fork at 40 yards and let him waik, I'm not ready to be done deer hunting yet.

I wouldnt mind hearing the story on how you got to within 25 yards on this one. Tough getting that close in open country unless you can duck behind the basalt or have the wind in your favor crawling through the sagebrush.

They told my dad that if they didn't protrude through the skin into to meat they were safe for consumption. This was a few years ago. I skinned out part of the face and they don't come through so I wasn't even going call them.

Might be worth a call, couldn't hurt anyways in my book. A biologist will tell you if you meat is safe, and you might get another tag. Still a nice buck, good luck with your decision!

Question guys any of your deer have a high amount of fat?
-
Mine was really fat on the back and rump...rump was few inches thick

Interesting. Would they test the meat for you? :dunno:

Well I have my multi season so if he would have been normal I would have passed just to spend more time in the field.
Had the same thing on a buck my dad shot. I called the WDFW and they came out and took a look. Said they are "Cattle Warts" and are not harmful to the meat at all. They would not have given your tag back.
I have seen tumors inside the body though on a buck my buddy's mom shot and they gave he tag back. Let her keep the rack too! My wife was not so lucky when she shot a nasty buck they gave us the option to surrender the deer and get our tag back or keep the rack and burn the tag. We chose to get the tag back and we went out and shot another buck that night. It was cool she got to shoot 2 bucks in one day legally.
Here is that thread. It was a nasty buck.

tag
-
A good friend helped me out with some private land and after 5 stalks on deer I made the 6th one count and this guy filled my tag. I was supposed to be elk hunting on Saturday, but I spent the whole day deer hunting. So thanks to a good friend for letting me come with him as well as deer hunt for the whole first day. And I got to say the land owner and his wife were two of the nicest and most hospitable people I have ever met! What a great 2 1/2 days of hunting. Made a good 50 yard shot through the boiler maker and he only went about 80 yards. Here's to hoping I get invited back. Oh and no elk this time.
-
Sorry pics got turned. I am not sure how to fix that.

Passed on a bigger doe this morning because this little guy was limping really bad. I figured I could eat him or he could be coyote food. Either way, meat in the freezer, and this is my first WA archery deer.
-
Nice little deer....tasty. Why was he limping? Any idea?
-
Thanks! No idea. I saw him yesterday and he was bad. Same today when he hobbled out of the woods into the field. The only thing I could find wrong with him was that someone decided to put an arrow into his lungs. I'm not complaining. He's being cut up for the freezer right now.
-
Good shootin Jarhead! Any deer is a trophy with an archery tag. Good eating deer, When's the first Taco Tuesday? Mmmmmm mmmmmm

I shot it with a rifle at about 50 yards. My hunter orange is draped over my backpack at this point. Believe it or not it scores about 178 (roughly) with 45" of mass.
-
That's the best looking 178" buck I have ever seen. Well done.
-
That's pretty much my dream buck right there! I'd take mass like that over length any day! Thanks for posting!

Got my buddy on this buck the last morning of muzzy season, missed some bigger bucks but definitely happy with this for his first deer.
-
The Mrs. got it done with the muzzy this weekend.
Lots of character on this one, but he wasn't the smartest of deer. Stood broadside at 30 yards while she had several caps that did not ignite the pellets. :bash: (Up until this, we have not had one issue with pellets) Will be shooting loose from now on. ;)

That buck has a ton of character

:yike: When you consider the fact that there has been about 20 or so muley bucks ever recorded with 6" or larger circumference H1's in this state, and less than 5 with H1 measurements larger than 6 4/8", that is one hell of a buck!
-
I wondered if that H1 would hit 7. Very impressive. Meathunter, that's a buck that will tape out very nicely. Good start to the year for some impressive WA bucks. I'm expecting many more to follow.

Nice looking mulie
-
Congrats those are nice looking bucks
-
My Opening Day muley - 258 yards, about 25 minutes into the season. He was with a pair of does and a spike along a tree line. Missed my broadside opportunity so I had to take him while he was facing me head on. With the angle, the bullet went right through the top of his neck and out the bottom somehow. I was really worried it was going to travel down the backstraps, but the meat was all clean. He's not my biggest buck, and not the bruiser I had been scouting, but I'll take him. Hopefully I can get my Dad or my Uncle on the big guy before the end of the season. Good luck everyone.

Tough year in my area. Pathfinder JR gotter done on the 2nd day of the season though. 243 yards offhand. Tumbled him on the first shot, deer got back up, tumbled him again.
-
Got off work at 12:30 am drove to the trailhead, took a nap in a avalanche shoot opening morning 9 miles in, out of juice and couldn't push anymore. Woke up made it to camp at 6500' after a few more miles. Dad already had camp set up so got settled in. He had spotted a solid 180 buck that never reappeared for him in several days of glassing. After seeing several other small fours, this guy came out of the timber at lets say a good bit, double checked my dope chart on my stock, estimated a wind reading, dialed it and sent it. Solid it just a touch back and he humped up hard, racked another adjusted for a little more thermal and boiler roomed him. Took off like a stuck throttle and rag dolled a few hundred yards down hill. Surprised he had any rack left. He busted himself up pretty good. Not my biggest buck by far and A LOT of ground shrinkage but that's how it goes. A lot of hard work and good times with my dad that makes it a very desirable trophy and great memory for me.

Dandy fork 121!

The girl and I got it done opening weekend. She only had Saturday and a bit of Sunday to hunt after leaving for our hunting grounds right after work Friday night and arriving at 1am. At about 10 am I spotted two bucks crossing a face at 650 yards. A nice 4pt and a wide/heavy 2x3. We started making our move but they were crossing at a good clip and made the ridgeline out of sight. We were making our way around to them when she taps me on the shoulder and points across the draw behind us, and there stands a nice 3x4 and a smaller buck. I told her to get set up but it was a bit of a cluster since we were on a steep hillside and she couldn't get her bipods deployed. She finally got squared away and took a shot and the buck took off like a shot. I thought I heard a hit but the buck made no indication of a kick or humping up. We crossed to him and came around the corner to find him standing there, pumped another one into him and down he went. We were back to camp by 1!
Sunday morning we headed up the canyon again. I spotted the same 4pt I had seen the day before about a mile and a half up the canyon in some rocks. Spend the next three hours stalking him and after setting up on him at 300 and 200 yards and having nothing but a head shot and him unwilling to stand up , I made my way around to him and kicked him up at about 10 yards and put him down at about 60 with a single shot to the base of the neck. He may be my best buck yet. It was great to go two for two.
I do not, however, plan on returning to this area. On Monday I was messing around while the others in camp were in the hills and watched 6 wolves tear apart a deer. We found another wolf kill on Monday. The deer numbers are really dwindling after the last few years and it is a truly sad sight to see...
-
Two studs! Congrats to both of you!

2015 Meat hunt in 1010!
Both boys could have taken whitetail does, but the 11 yo Chris Brackett wannabe really wanted a legal buck. He was pumped with the little mulie! One shot at 218yd! Really proud of him! One knee off sticks, shattered the brisket and ruptured one of the big vessels coming out of the heart.
9 yo wanted a buck too, but after the first morning on the steep, he was ready to go to the flat for a doe. He smashed her spine with his first shot at 70yds. Big redemption form 5 misses last year!
I was hunting, but pretty much guided them for those two opening day, then went out myself and I got the little 4x4 whitey the next morning. Legal buck, Boom! Done!
(We'll definitely get to the high country for horns in the next few years. For now, this is sure fun!)

Longrange7mm - I'm not certain you could kill a buck that better represents a classic mule deer. He's perfect.

Yeah my dad, brother, and I are thrilled we could all be a part of the hunt. It was quite the weekend.
I've been racking up points for WY for a few years now. I'm thinking next year or year after a few of us will be headed that way for a DIY hunt for Antelope and Mule deer. I can't wait to get over there. I grew up in MT and miss that country and especially chasing the speed goats

Hell, I don't know that I'd have him mounted. Just blow up that photo and put it on the wall!
Must point out that this is a Washington forum and that's a Wyoming buck. A dandy buck anywhere.

Great buck longrange!!!
Just asking a question here, this thread is "2015 BUCKS". Maybe if we aren't supposed to post out of state deer it should be changed to "2015 Washington BUCKS ONLY"? I have posted my out of state deer since I have been on the forum, am I not supposed to do that?

Great buck Derik especially with the warm weather this year. Long range your buck rocks. And thanks again for all the elk help you know your stuff

My Blacktail I got Sunday. Found him standing in a large field of scotch broom after being bedded there all day. Drove past him at least 5 times through the day as well as multiple other vehicle. Guess I got lucky.

Thank you Jasnt! I thought this may be the year I went without one. This deer isn't my best by far, but is the most special because my 8 year old son Elijah was with me, snd who doesn't love a last day buck! Ill keep trying to guide him to his first deer so he can start his own record to lose sleep over. :chuckle:

Good rifle season for us this year. Got a decent 3x3 Monday the 19th. Buddy got the bruiser crowned 6x6 opening day. Also spotted he biggest buck I've ever seen on the hoof on the last day. Included a poor clarity screenshot from a video I took though the spotter zoomed in to 60 power in the sun. Wish i was able to get better footage, I think he would be close to 200".

my first kill, deer and buck. I've been told its a rare find. Palmated Muley expired in less than 10 seconds after a heart shot from 220 yards with my newly purchased .270 Browning x-bolt.

I know right? Being that it was my first deer, I didn't know what I had until later when a bunch of other hunters stopped by and saw him. Come to find out it's not every year you get to harvest a deer with that much palmation.

After a ton of scouting trips and many many miles put on, my dad and I got a late start one morning, we saw a doe in some reprod while driving to our spot so I got out and started watching her for a bit. This guy came out and made a B line for the doe. Funny that it worked out that way but he is my biggest blacktail and I am very happy with him. Has been a great season so far.

I got this one 40 minutes after opening day legal shooting time over by Twisp off Loop Loop Pass Methow Game Range. I was a fine sight this year, rifle in one hand and a cane in the other do to a severe bulging disc. I was blessed with an easy one, 100 ft. above the road.
-
This was the third legal deer I had seen and the first one I was able to take a shot on. Happy to put meat in the freezer!
-
I really had to work for this guy. Shot him Friday at 8:00AM, lost blood trail after 100 yards but continued searching until dark in some very unforgiving terrain. Decided to give up the rest of my hunt to find him and searched from sun up to sun down Saturday, nothing. Finally walked up on him Sunday just before dark bedded down in a creek bottom, the very last hiding hole to check.....still alive. Took 2 more shots to take him down. Tough old bugger to say the least. Spent the next 6 hours in a straight down pour packing him out. It was a hell of a end to this years journey.

Good on you for not giving up and pushing on to find your deer!
-
Friday took a shot at a nice 5pt but new 243win 3 position safety got the best of me, "CLICK!" :bash: Spooked him off and never saw him again. Saturday afternoon and coming up on 3years with no meat in the freezer finally filled my tag :whoo:... Like they say, "Never pass up on a buck you'd be happy to take on the last day."
-
Way to stick with it bone...Many of us are familiar with the sickening feeling of knowing there is a wounded animal out there. So much doubt creeps into your mind. 2 1/2 days with a successful outcome is a worthy effort. Good campfire story material as well
-
I was literally waking up and sitting up in bed in the camper for 2 nights playing out different scenarios in my head about where he could be. It was an adventure full of emotional highs and lows but I could sleep easy after finding him knowing I gave it my all. I decided to do a shoulder mount strictly due to the fact of how hard I worked to get him, and he will be a great conversation piece.

Had a blast hunting with my son on his Quality buck permit. He made a great 251 yard shot on this bedded 3x4 blacktail.

First buck in a couple years, nice SW Washington blacky. Got him right before dark on the 28th after I missed a nicer one earlier in the day. I was just sitting on a stump doubting my shooting skills when I look up and he's walking from one thicket to the next. 130 Accubond hit it's mark. Too bad elk season didn't turn out this good. Congrats to all the nice bucks.
-
Not that it means much since theres not too much land detail and every clearcut looks similar but I swear I know where that is. I wont ask but if it is where I think it is then I hate you haha. Its my old #1 spot and I passed on going there towards the end of season to hunt for "any deer"
-
I moved to Washington two years ago and this is my first year hunting up here.
I can't complain about this one.

Quality late tag.

I amazed at the quality of deer being taken this year, across the state...congrats to all the success stories! I LOVE looking at all of these beautiful (tasty) animals! :)
-
This season was my third season trying (hunting about 5 days each year), and first season with success at getting a buck.
I see a lot of comments that this seems to be a very good year in quality of production. Very curious to see what success rate trends are at the end of the season.
I'll say this: when I started deer hunting a few years back I said I just wanted to put one in the freezer. Now after my first buck I've started looking at antlers and finding myself admiring the aesthetics of one or the mass of another and now deep down inside I'm saying next year I'll get a bigger buck. Haha never thought that would be me but here we are!

I'm surprised at the quality I've seen this year as well with the drought we had you would think that it would have affected growth. :dunno: but it's been a good from what I can tell

My Grandson got this one last Saturday. One shot from his .270 did the job. Not full rut yet but he was on the prowl at 11:00 AM. He was hunting with his dad and I. Great Time!!

Damn grizman, great buck. Setting the bar high for the kid at a young age huh?

I got him within 45 seconds of starting to hunt. My dad was still peeing next to the truck when I fired. Scared him a bit. :chuckle: (I did not see him from the truck, we were stopping to kick some brush) 5x4 (double eye guard one one side)

Not a lot of movement, but truthfully, I was only out for the first morning of the hunt.

Late post, but harvested this buck in October this year. Really fun hunt. My father-in-law also took a 3x4 muley a couple days earlier. We weren't able to fill my wife's tag (not for lack of days or miles of hiking) but she'll be extra motivated for the big one next year!

Hard to follow that last buck but here's my buddy's first Arizona deer. First with a rifle as well being from the Midwest and used to hunting muzzys and shotguns.
We froze our buns off and got snowed on whilst awaiting them to come around the mountain to the honey hole. Yes, snow in the Southern Arizona desert :o
-
The little buck I got Monday with my fiance' outside of Colville it was only about 29 degrees outside so we were happy to get to town and get some food and warm up :) we only had two days to hunt and after not getting anything during regular season i wasn't going to pass. :EAT:
-
My son and I both got our bucks on Friday the 13th also. His first. No idea how many for me now. I've long since lost track. Son's deer is very similar to my first, other than his is a whitetail and mine was a blacktail. Good memories.

Another person just asked the same thing, it does look similar to a Model 88, its actually a Sako Finwolf .308 that was handed down from my grandpa. He shot a moose with it in the mid 90's and I hope to do the same one of these years. :)

I killed a nice 3 point blacktail the last week of October. He was all stupid looking for a doe and it got him killed!!
Went out with my dad yesterday and I spotted a bruiser 4 point at noon sunning himself in the timber. He took a difficult shot through the reprod and got him! big bodied deer!! the pictures don't do the horns justice.

Tagged out on thurs. May post a pic when I get a chance. Just a little spike. 3" on one side and like 6-7 with a wicked curve on the other side. Hunted up in the hills in the morning but was cold and wet and have been battling a chest cold, sounding like a 50 year old 2 pack a day smoker with a hacking cough. So I headed home early to rest up for the next morning but decided to stop at my uncles 40 acres and he popped up at about 100 yards. The Winchester partition gold slug through the lungs. Died conveintly in the flat of the field so I could get a tractor to him haha.

Was able to get this guy on Friday afternoon after arriving in camp tuesday afternoon...it was cold & crunchy the whole time...I was able to hunt allday Wednesday (opener), split Thanksgiving into 2 hunts, & did the same friday...As stated above on friday afternoon after being set up where I seen some does feeding the previous days they reappeared followed by this fella...I had him feeding broadside but just as I released he turned slightly but all things lead me to believe along with the crunchy snow that he went down...Waited awhile before I decided to track him, found the 1st signs of blood then after about 10 yards I spotted him another 15-20yds away done for...
For my 2nd buck & having a few years between the 2 I am very pleased & thankful for the opportunities to get out there & thankful for having a Wife & family that lets me get away annually during the holiday, & this year very thankful for the buddy who came & his family...Thanks ahead

A little late to the party. Not the biggest we seen I was hoping the 32 inch monster with the forked dropper would show up on here. One of the biggest bucks i have ever been able to put my hands on. With that the old man put this 26" buck down with one shot close to 450 yards.

Figured I'd post the mount pics

My wife harvested this nice buck in November. She wrote a story for Eastman's Hunting Journal published in the Feb/March Mule Deer Issue. The rack is 34 3/8 wide and Scores 216 1/8 Gross and 211 5/8 Net. She took it to the Portland Sportshow and got first place in current year rifle non-typical. The rack had 5 eye-gaurds on one side and 3 on the other, most were broke off. It had a nice split drop-tine also.
Good luck in the draw.

Jeez, smoker buck. Congrats to the Mrs

Thanks guys she says the hardest part was shooting with me yelling to shoot before it got away. She was embarrassed by all the guys at the show telling her she had a "nice rack".

Nice bucks! My gf's brother lives in Spokane and I have contemplated hunting with him around there...

Thanks, NSAECHIN. We drive 3 hours to hunt for mule deer but for whitetail's it's about an hour or so drive. Lots of places to hunt around here.

Hello all,
I just joined the site and this seems like a great community! Thought I would share some photos of the little coastal blacktail I took last year while I was living down in Oregon. I just moved back up here so I'll be busting the brush up here in Washington again this Fall. Can't wait!
Cheers
-
That's my favorite blacktail look. High, thick and narrow antlers

Great deer trrb, and I wouldn't call that little. Welcome to the site. :hello:

Welcome to the site. Super nice Oregon buck. Be sure to keep us abreast of your progress with WA blackies. What unit are you planning to hunt?
