So my first archery elk season was a moderate success. I did not kill an elk, but I did get on 3 different bulls and a few different bunches of cows. I was limited in my time, and also in my ability. I was only able to bike about 5 miles round trip and hunt on foot about another 5 each day. We were down in the Winston area and saw tons of people, but we did see a few bulls come out. One guy biked a head out on one of those old plastic kid seats that you attache to the back.
My brother was into elk the first 2 days and then killed a cow on day 3.

-
Right on :hello: Love them photos. Especially that last one :chuckle: Looks like you'll be eating good :EAT:
-
Congrats!!! I'd saw them legs off at the knee. A little lighter load and they won't get caught on a limb and send ya ars over tea kettle!!! lol Good Luck
-
Slider - LOL ...I was wondering how long it would take for someone to comment on the lower legs.
Normally we do saw them badboys off, but the sun was rising and it was already 70 degrees. We only had to go a short distance and the extra couple pounds were not as much of a concern as the temp.

Looks like good table fare to me. Congrats to your brother, and glad you had a good hunt. Where were you last Wednesday when I needed you....pack mule.
-
Sweet.....Way to go!! That's a great start. Congrats.
-
That's cool. I like to see guys doing things the hard way. Even if it was a cow, looks like you guys earned it.

Thanks guys.. Though I was limited to how far I could go, it was fun. This was my first year and his second. He has killed two elk, two deer and a bear so

Hey, just saw this, congrats! Too bad you didn't get one too but you've still got late season. Sounds like you guys really earned that one. ;)

You are really starting to concern me...... :chuckle:
The concerning part is the amount of pics I took of it...

Great pics and congrats to your brother.
Stay after the bow hunting... when it grabs ya your guns will learn what dust looks like!
-
Too funny guys..lol
LTL - I am sure the archery bug has set in, but I am having a hard time shaking the late buck (Nov) fever.
-
Glad to see your brother got an elk. Also thanks for sharing the pics.
I was unsuccessful during the early season so am looking at late season options....would you say the Winston Unit is worth checking out?
-
Congratulations, The first cow I ever shot was with a bow and it ment more to me than all of my rifle bulls.
