Edmonds Coho derby this sat who has been out fishing Coho in the salt? They are in lets hear about your tactics and stores
-
Nobody fishing wow can't believe that :tung:
-
Friend knocked em dead yesterday, today was real slow for us, saw plenty fish caught, not sure how many were Coho though.
-
we caught 11 up by shipwreck in the sound from 6am-10am
-
Got my first one off the chehalis yesterday, killed them at bouy 10
-
Heading to Deception Pass in about a half hour, hope they are still there.
Update:
Just caught one small pink. Saw a fly fisherman land a nice coho off the beach. Saw a couple other fish caught, but not much.
-
Nice reports I was out Friday am got two very good takedowns lost them fishing west side of possession bar then all of sudden all My electronics went out GPS radio dead.So I headed in around 9 just as I was into fish it was a cold morning was way underdressed loll the fish cops were at the boat launch in Everett hitting everyone going out a few people had to pull out their boats must of not had all their safety gear idk getting back out Tues good luck everyone
-
I just got back from Neah Bay. Crazy numbers of coho flooding in after the rains. Four of us fished three rods this am and I don't think we went more than five minutes at any one time without a fish. It was nuts. No way we could get a fourth rod out. But bigger fish were few and far between, vast majority were 4-5 lbs. At one point my 6 y.o. kid put his orange peel on a hook and dropped it back in the wake. Sure enough, had a fish come right up and take a sniff with his dorsal out of the water before deciding something wasn't quite right.
-
Nice !!!I was there last labor day weekend was a blast love that place when the fishing is that hot great times for the kids
:dunno:
-
Did well across at apple tree cove last weekend. Pretty rough with the winds all the days we fished though. We tried up at possession early on Saturday but only caught one coho so went back to apple tree and caught some. Limited out on coho in less than two hours Sunday. Cutplug herring was the winner. Brads cutplug had a couple but too many smaller fish and kings being caught on it and caught one or two on green ace hifly. We threw back the smaller 16-18 inch coho and keeping the larger ones.
-
What's the scoop around shipwreck /possession? Last Friday was hot action.
-
Going out tomorrow possession bar the late tides 8:57 low water try and be out there at first light the weather will be nice for sure.... Glad to hear the reports thanx all who posted hopefully I will have a report tomorrow

Those are some great looking fish, what did the heaviest weigh?. I have never caught a salmon that big.
-
Hay, took out son and his wife ,mukilteo launch they were working on it . this fri sat sun the ramp and parking will be closed for the lighthouse festival. We did hook up 2 blkmouth, and released.did not see any net's go up. at the ship wreck. got checked and she said slow today. most fishing south around apple and possession were better.used coho killer and green hootchie, behind uv flasher. No fish finder as it broke.
:dunno:
-
What are they doing to the Muk launch? Fixing the missing float?
-
Those are some great looking fish, what did the heaviest weigh?. I have never caught a salmon that big.
Thanks. There's some long arming effect in that photo, but that fish in front is right at 10 lbs. Some of those others in the back are 7-8 lbs, the small ones are 4-5 lbs.
-
Ten lbs is a big salmon to me.
-
I'm heading down to seiku this weekend, any reports of tips for that area?
-
Good to read all the stories keep them coming
-
I'm heading down to seiku this weekend, any reports of tips for that area?
Go to slip point where the buoy is, head straight out to deeper water in 250-300 foot of water, set lines in water and limit in 2 hours or less. You won't have trouble, especially with the wild retention this weekend. If you find bait, focus on that area.
-
C.P looks like they are fixing the bumpers at the end of the dock's.They have been missing for a spell.
-

Thanks. Looks like I'll be launching there tomorrow. Glad they are getting things fixed up.
-
Thanks hunt-fish!
-
My buddy caught one on the Snohomish on Monday about 5lbs.
-
Was at Everett at 530 but didn't get in the water til 930 due to engine troubles.
Hardly any boats around shipwreck. No bites yet
-
Nice burge I hate problems I had two days of them had to deal with when all u want to do is get out and fish :tup:hope it works out for ya and you get one on.....I heading out tomorrow am hope for a smooth trip and get into some fish and do it again sat for the derby
-
How was the morning fishing around shipwreck?
I got one to the boat but lost it. It was SUPER slow from 930-1.
Caught 12+ shakers... whats up with that?
-
ellensburg
I was out also and it was slow.were u using herring? Forgot mine in the freezer :yike:
using cohokiller cookies and cream, couple blkmouth shackers that got tossed back, one was 7 lb's.motormouching. tried 75-95-105-etc
-
From what I think its not going to be a big run of silvers this year some are already in the river I bet the derby Winner will be a small fish we will see.... Going out in the morning tides suck this week using Greene spatter back and a red racer with the herring strip see what happens
-
that works good also,Ive been using herring scent on the red racer flasher and coho killer.
tons of boats out of edmonds west to east anyone got a story?
-
I am considering going out on Saturday morning but not for the derby. I had been hoping for red hot reports but sounds like a mixed bag right now. I'll post a report if I get out. Be safe everyone.
-
Yea, we were using herring. Just got out far too late.
I'll be back at it tomorrow early, as long as i can get the wife out of bed. She is a trooper :IBCOOL:
-
I'll be out there bright and early, plan on fishing the bar unless weather forces us closer to Shipwreck.
Anyone know how bad of a zoo Everett launch will be?
-
Everett launch will be a zoo, it is a better launch than the Edmonds sling and they will have an official weigh in station for the Edmonds derby there, with the huge traffic in and out of Everett its still a better option for the derby guys than Edmonds.
I have switched over to green and white spoons, coyote, coho killer etc. and quit using the herring strip /squid. not getting the shakers or the kings like we were. still limiting fairly easy, 4 fish in a couple hours is the norm. Still running 3-5 pounds tho, had one that went eight.
-
I checked the regs, we can keep wild and hatchery coho, right?
-
Yes wild Coho in area 8-2 and area 9
-
Hooked up twice in front of muk. Headed to possession now.
-
Right on burg hope to hear good news u doing the derby tomorrow ???
-
Are you guys talking about the old ship wreck just off of Edmond? I dove in that wreck years ago and had one heck of a face to face interaction with a GIANT cod. I still cant believe they have mouths that are big enough to swallow your head. Was the only fish that i saw that was bigger than a perch. Good luck all!
-

The 'shipwreck' is north of Edmonds, closer to Mukilteo, it's a ship skeleton on the beach.
I'll be out there tomorrow for the Derby with my kid. We'll start around Edmonds and head north from there, probably towards west Possession. Looking forward to it!
-
Spooky seeing fish that big :yike: I worked with alot of commercial divers and that's a job I wouldn't like...I be out gonna fish the bait box by possession first white 16ft fiberform two Penn riggers with a 70 HP seahorse
-
No luck today. I was stuck in the water for an hour trying to get my motor working. I think we figured it out. I have to turn up my fast idle in order to start the boat when its colder out.
Things were real slow out at shipwreck. Didnt see one person hook up. We had 4 or 5 real strikes but never even got a fish to the boat. I think my good luck has ran dry.
-
That sucks berg I've had many breakdowns this year boats are famous for problems at the wrong time for sure :bash: are you going to fish the derby tomorrow ?
-

Nope. I work weekends.

If you dove this one you wouldn't be needing any air. The small wrecks in the Edmonds dive park do have some MONSTER ling cod though.
Good luck to all, I'll be in the Smokercraft Tracer with the blue top.
-
K stein I am launching in Everett at 5:30 beat the crowds be fishing the bait box or near at first light good luck also :tup:last year it was very easy at the launch people moved it real good

Yeah, I used to launch at Kayak, so Everett is a dream. I just don't want to run out of parking so we'll hit it real early and run in the dark like a bunch of fish ninjas.
-
Loll last year I left Everett before sun up and seeing all the running lights on the water pretty cool
-
Four hours until the alarm goes off. See you out there.
22' Hydra Sports going by "Beast Wake" or hawksfan.
-
I can see tell you where they ain't.
-
I can see tell you where they ain't.
Not much out there today. We hit a few fish, but nothing over four lbs. even the pink we got was tiny. Anybody catch a derby worthy fish?
-
Hooked an 8-10 reeling in the downrigger, but missed it at the boat. 10 limits of shakers too.
-
First light put the riggers at 40 and 30 the one at 40 caught all 3 fish right in a row moon jelly Greene squid with two glow beads and insert and Greene pro cured strips biggest fish was 4.5 the other two a little less. Then the lights went out couldn't get another bite...... Wish I could of hung one more for a worthy derby winner :tup:but came home with fish
-
double bluff first light , had 3 in the box right away, had to grind a little bit for the 4th. I don't fish derbies but heard that a 7 1/2 lb won the derby, pretty sad
-
Nice catch same here 3 first light then nada this run I don't think is going to be very strong this year small winner that's for sure with how many fished it ....

Was out yesterday (9/13) in MA9, boated one that would of been in the top 5 of the derby, lost another, had a hit or two and released a few small shakers all in the early AM, then it went quite, so we went to see if any pinks still hangin around and had no luck, so back went the coho gear and no luck in the late morning, could of been the tides?
Headed in around noon.

I do think these tides are bad be better this week I like to morning highs this week will be better 5 Ft about drops won't be ebbing as bad as this weekend get out at first light and fish the few hrs before high tide perfect... The winner was a small fish hopefully the Everett derby there will be a little bigger fish we will see goose luck everyone

Headed in around noon.
Try going deeper, I saw and hooked one about 110' at 11 am last weekend.
The weather is looking better, forecast was looking a bit ugly. Hopefully the wind will stay down.
-
Seiku last weekend was phenomenal as far as fish density but in 4 days we never caught one over 6lbs and we caught a LOT of fish.
-
So there is another derby this weekend?
-
So there is another derby this weekend?
Yes.
-
Yes the Everett coho derby sat and sun if you catch one sat and then fish Sunday and get a bigger one you can use the biggest one to win...10k first place should be a fun derby this year
-
Upper snohomish is pretty dead for coho. A few jumpers but not many and the ones there have lock jaw from what I've seen the last couple days
-
Found a school off the bait box:
-
nice haul CP..I have been fishing there in the evenings this week off and on and getting at least 1 a night.
-
I need to get out more and fill the freezer. I've been wasting too much time on elk.
-

haha, its never a waste of time when your chasing critters, my fishing is going to wind down as I start loading up for hunting season , I have multiple states to hunt this year and gonna be a busy fall. good luck on the elk.
-
fished the Everett derby today a lot of boats and a little fish zero here but shakers........fished thru the tide then headed in be curious to see the winner of this derby for sure

We fished MA7 to avoid the derby traffic and didn't fare much better. One stud of a wild fish caught and released before the low this morning, and nothing but shakers until we decided to call it quits. It was nice to see a larger fish, the ones we caught last weekend were all little runts.

-
I caught a 13lb 32" coho Saturday in Area 7. Biggest coho ever for me
-
 hoochie ?
-
Hoochie with herring strip. Was trolling about 30 feet down in about 60 feet of water and in the process of pulling up gear to move to another spot because it was so slow and wasn't seeing much on the fish finder lol. You just never know... 8)
-
It sure not red hot here in area 9 or 8-2 still hoping the bigger hook nose will show up but they are littered at Seku with the same small size fish who knows
-
Thanks I was going today, but too much fog.Although it will lift, high tide at 1.
Putting in at Mukilteo easy launch ,just tired of going alone. Been using cop car,and coho killer's trolling at 3-3.5 loads up my 90hp but I just run back up and fish with the tide.
anyone been using Brad's cut plug's?
-
Slow going off Possession this morning. I managed to scratch up one small Coho –
The fog wasn’t a problem the banks were well North of Muk.
-
I'm thinking bout Goin out Thursday for some coho. Shipwreck area.
-
Went out this morning and we caught four by 8:15. We started at mukilteo ramp and caught the first one trying to hook my line to the down rigger. The rest were at 40 to 50 ft down on a white squid.
-
THanks for the info
I'll be out weds, working the tide. any hit's around 10 ?.most of mine are around 8:30 or earlier..Will be working the shallows tomorrow around 60 to 130 ft.. green squid, flasher,or Brad's cut plug. tan bayliner, blk 90 merc.
-

Any recent reports? Thinking of going out of Everett for the crab opener and fishing Muk to Shipwreck.
-
I went 0-6 on Friday. :-[ Humbling experience, makes we want to sharpen every hook on the boat and rethink all tactics. They were a little larger fish than I have been catching. Of course the fish you lose is always bigger than the fish you catch.
Shipwreck area -
-
That sucks, we lose a ton mostly due to an inexperienced crew. I hook then handoff to the rest of the family that doesn't have much experience with larger fish. I recently bought a new net with a telescoping handle and can scoop them way out there which certainly helps. The barbless hooks really don't make it easy.

I made a telescoping net out of an old handle and another net I had, works great! The problem is that it is hard to tell if a fish is one that has to be released (remember the no bringing into the boat rule if being released... ) while it is at telescope distance and they often need to be brought in closer, then the long handle is just in the way.
-
I use number 5 hooks big river they are the best I have ever used..... and when I have people with a fish on especially the little coho we have now to just keep reeling set the drag tight and don't stop reeling and when they get close I have a long handle net and swoop them in seems to work great because alot of people like to stop reeling and look at the fish when it gets close to the boat and that's when they get off..just the way I do it and I don't loose many that way
-
#5 or 5/0? I switched to 5/0 from 2/0 or 3/0 and it seemed to help a bit.
-
Sorry 5/0 big river hooks
-
2 of us landed 3 off possession last week. But damn it was slow. Anyone got an update for shipwreck /possession?
-
Not for down there, but I hear they are hammering them off of Tide Pt on Cypress.
-

-
last week tuesday, nice out wave's <1 ft,sliver's 2-3.5 lbs',have to sync carb's on 90 merc it's a cold blooded old women but start's right up when warm.. think I have starter drag when cold!
coho killer's have been working ok,cop car,3.5. and all white. Tan and white 82 bayliner 17ft. usually by myself!

What's the report in 8-2 and 9? They still out there or did the rain put them all in the rivers?

Been hearing the salt has slowed down. Rivers are pretty dead from my observations, from talking to other anglers, and from talking to wdfw staff. It's the middle of October, what happened?

Yeah, pretty slow in the salt, so I hear. Chum are starting to show up if that interests you. I'm waiting for he blackmouth opener.

Rivers aren't dead I've been hitting a limit every time I've gone to the snoho this week! A lot of fish have moved into the sky after the rain but there's still plenty in the lower river
-
As I said, the rivers are pretty dead. WDFW just announced that the Skagit and Stilly will close to salmon fishing on Monday.
