Title: cucumber bait?
Post by: Bulldozer77 on September 11, 2015, 11:13:54 AM
Will anything eat cucumbers? Wife's garden went crazy so I'm just wondering before I throw them out in front of a camera.

The deer have never touched those in our garden.  I suppose you could bait in a vegetarian but I don't know anything about the season or bag limit or anything so you're on your own there. :dunno:

Every now and then I'll throw something in with the apples to see if they'll eat it. As long as you put it with something they like they'll just ignore it if they don't like it. Fun to see what they eat and what they ignore. Never tried cucumbers though.

I'm with Band on this one.  I have a number of different kinds of cucumber plants in the unfenced part of my garden and the BTs have never touched them.  Now green beans, that's a different story.

I throw cucumbers to the whitetail in my yard sometimes. They gobble them up.

Yeah, they got my green beans pretty good as well.  The sweet peas, raspberries, and carrot tops too.  Dang buggers.

Deer eat everything and anything in my garden.  Pumpkins, cantelope, watermelon, raspberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, ancho peppers, serano peppers, beans, peas.....when they get tired of that they start on the roses.

This is exactly what I ended up doing.  Threw a bunch of apples out with a bunch of cucumbers. We'll see what happens. Thanks for all the replies. Sorry to those of you whose gardens get tore up by the deer every year. Wish I lived at a place where I had to worry about that though.

Slugs like them everywhere. This is the first year I managed to grow them. Started them in a raised plastic bin and then transplanted them. Even raised I killed a lot of fishbait sized slugs.

A bear came through and ate the apples and all of the cucumbers remained untouched. Now I know.
