10:20am and still no pics must be no elk out there or it spoiled already with the heat warming up
-
I passed on one this morn

Got close to good 6x6 but he moved down the ridge and got killed by another hunter

I passed on a raghorn this morning, and my son had a decent 5x6 at 40ish yards, but he chose not to take the shot because it was too brushy. Headed back out here in a minute.

-
Shedkid, is that hoof rot I see?
Definitely looks like it.
-
I just went back and expanded the picture and that rear hoof does look weird. Was it limping at all?
-
It's a nice bull. I was just curious because, when I get snowed out of my areas over here I usually go over to the Hoh or North River/Minot for a coastal and was wondering if that is going on over there. Luckily, I have yet to run into hoof rot. Glad you got your bull. Good color on that rack.
-
I hit single lungs first and it was just a follow up shot.
-
Yes it did have a little good rot on one foot unfortunately :(
-

James,
I recently purchased one of your elk decoys for my AZ elk hunt. It was one of the essential items I carried each day in the field. As you can see from the picture, I was very blessed with a bull of a lifetime. Thank you for such a great product... lightweight, durable, and extremely effective! Can't wait to try your other decoys on future hunts.
Thanks again for a great tool in my hunting arsenal.

Here is my first elk, I got him opening morning an hour after first light. We spotted a herd from 200+ yards and I closed the distance to 45. Once I was in close I could hear and smell them but I couldn't see them. After spending a short time observing I see him feeding behind trees, he steps out broadside and we engage in a starring contest which seemed to last 10 minutes but was most likely a minute or so. He had me pinned, he was at 41 yards and I was not able to come to full draw. Finally he lowered his head and continued feeding behind a small patch of trees which allowed me to come to full draw. He stopped again and gave me a broadside shot with clear and open shooting lanes. after I shot the herd erupted and stampeded off, I was close enough I was sure I was going to get trampled on. I cow called immediately and heard the bull I hit stop about 50 yards down the drainage, then a loud CRASH! We had him quartered up and hauled back to camp by 9:45

DIY public land ID. Greatest hunt I've ever been on. Spent three years scouting multiple areas before I found an area worth the cost of an out-of-state tag. Day 1, saw more elk than I've seen in years (cumulative) of hunting in WA. Day 2 got a change at the largest bull I've ever seen. Blew the stock, and had to settle for this guy, a loner satellite without any cows, that came RUNNING to a couple cow calls.

that's one of the longest long arm photos :twocents: ive seen.
When your holding on to a big rack it makes you look small. When you long arm a rack you look small (metephorically speaking)... This is definitely the former not the latter
Great bull guys.

Any mods on here that can pm me please?
Thank you

DonnyP that is a great rack (or, you live in a house with very small doors!) Curious, did you paint the horns (the photo in the woods shows a light brown, but the rack in the house looks like a normal color). I guess the kill shot photo was a little off, due to the time of day.

Have not seen it on here no, looks like a easy 400". I've got pics of it on the hoof that a buddy took as he was trying to tag it, but it eluded him every time. For some reason my iPhone and iPad will not let me load them anymore.

First year ever hunting. First kill. Was camping/hunting solo. Have been scouting this area since last year and was up there at least every 2 weeks for the last 6 months getting familiar with the area and looking for signs. 375yd shot with handloaded 180gr accubond got it done on monday. All that said, I would rather be lucky then good when it comes to hunting and fishing.

So not sure if this is where I should post this, but here goes.
My dad started me big game hunting at the age of 12. I am now 46 and he is 73. I live in Washington, and he lives in Oregon, which means we don't get to hunt and fish together as much as we used too, but we still hunt together for Oregon's archery elk. Over the last 15 years we have welcomed my step mom, cousins, and brother, to hunt with us. My son has been tagging along since the age of 6 and he is now 25. I actually got my wife and my daughter to come out for long weekends a couple of times. I am an avid elk hunter and spend more time then most chasing the "Elusive Wapiti". I have been very fortunate with the animals I have taken and friendships I have made, while hunting elk. I feel very lucky to have a dad and family that I get to spend time with, doing the things I enjoy most. Not everyone has a dad that has spent the time with them, my dad has spent with me. We all want to kill that monster bull, and I have taken a few nice ones, but I would not give up the times I have spent with my family to take a monster bull. To all of you that have family, take them hunting, As I said my dad is 73 and I am 46 and we are still chasing elk, together. I will always appreciate the time I have got to spend with them all. I hope my kids continue to do the same, as my dad and I have, with their families. I look forward to the days I will get to spend with my grandkids, as my dad did, and still is.
These are the bulls we took this last year, nothing big, but got to do it together.

Here's a couple of pictures of some Bulls we took this year, will be adding more pictures soon.
We would like to thank all of you for the business. Hope to see you at the sportsmen's shows.
White Pass Outfitters
Kent
If you put some rubberized material over the half breeds it'll save you some stink and a little mess down the road. Just cut a hole for the bars on your decker to take it on and off. Rinse with water when bloody, put back on the saddle and go. Works good for when you might have a leaky gas jug for trail clearing use too.

Look at the pack saddles between my picture and the others. With the full head packed like that you'll have blood getting onto the canvas that covers the decker tree (my dad has always called it the "half breed"). If you cover it with a chunk of rubberized material (like the heavy tarps used on hay stacks or what semis tarp with) it'll keep the blood from soaking into the canvas. In my photo the dark brown is that material.
It's just helpful suggestion.

My sons 2015 Utah Limited Entry Bull Elk. He got lucky and drew a 14 point tag with 4 points. Hunting around his college schedule we were able to get this nice bull in front of him. He made a great shot. If anyone wants info on hunting Utah I will be glad to help them. The online application closes March 3.

Thanks!! He was hanging out all alone. I followed his scat trail for an hour or so before coming up on some really fresh stuff and then from there I heard him in the brush. Saw the antlers sticking up. Had a perfect broadside shot up the hill to him. It was raining so he didn't hear me coming. Double lung shot and he went not 10 yards. Buuuuut he was 3.5 miles from the truck. :bash:
