When growing up , when we were successful out hunting ,dad always made sure to take a picture of us packing out the animal.
You guys got any pictures of packing out a critter?
-
We use to slide them out on kids toboggan sleds down through the sage brush. Just once I thought it was a good idea to ride the sled down. Never do that again. :bdid:
Got a photo some where here.

Here are a couple. My dad's bull from last year and my nephew last year helping out with my buck. Didn't used to pack animals out, always hunted within drag distance of the road. We've been getting a lot deeper and killing more animals last few years since we started cutting and packing them out!

Dad hadn't seen any critters for the first five days of the season, so he made the 90 minute trip home in the afternoon to get a shower and was going to return in the morning. His mistake was leaving the keys to his "baby" with us boys.
Took two of us to ride the front rack to keep the wheels on the ground. First time we did not bring one out on our backs. Ohh, and he never left the keys with us again. lol

Love the photos everyone! Quick Public Service Announcement (this topic came up from the instructor team in my most recent Hunt-Ed class this weekend). Not a bad idea if you are strapping antlers to your pack, to put some kind of orange on them. An extra vest or some orange tape attached to your animal may keep you from being a mistaken for game statistic.

I think they say or at least in some states that the meat first then the antlers the last load, I had a warden say the horns are not going anywhere so don't worry about them pack them out last. I usually pack the head out first!!!

A gutpile in the draw below us. Oh yeah, a spike that jumped up and stood there at 20 yards broadside.... It's the same piece that I pulled a nice doe out of the last time I had a second deer tag five or so years ago, but I was on the other side of the road and a lot closer.

And, my son dragged it 50 of the last 200 feet... what am I doing wrong? :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Nice spot  I know exactly where that is. see any bucks?
A gutpile in the draw below us. Oh yeah, a spike that jumped up and stood there at 20 yards broadside.... It's the same piece that I pulled a nice doe out of the last time I had a second deer tag five or so years ago, but I was on the other side of the road and a lot closer.
Right on  I didn't see very many legal bucks in that area at all this year. To many cats around

The first picture was the trip back to camp. The second pictures is the actual pack out. It was the easiest pack out yet for me.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171031/8e2ddd436dfeaebb243a00e9e4f60976.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171031/6ee721bca95049a72139391c2893dcdd.jpg)

Very cool Pics thanks for sharing

Great Pics but I would have a little/lot more orange showing on some of them. Rack up and orange under and pack, you are too trusting for me during rifle.
-
Heaviest load ever. Brothers pack was loaded so I packed the bear solo.
That second pic (with the cig) has sooo much awesome.

Not the greatest pic but that's my son on our second day ever hunting. 2012
Miley at 100 yards. I spotted him and said take a knee and take him. Perfect shot. Collapsed in his tracks.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171105/9310c895d5bc62003ce01aaae1d64388.jpg)

I cant even tell you guys how proud I am of these two boys.
-
You can tell us how proud you are if you like..
-
Thanks I thought you would never ask :P
Well besides the fact that these two boys have become proficient at killing animals they never complain and they hunt harder than most men that I know. We've been doing a ton of chukar hunting this year and these two numbskulls and a nephew of mine are the only ones who will still follow me out there.
When my older son shot this buck he called back to his papa to pick us up so that we only had to pack it out 2 miles instead of 4. My younger son was with my dad and he beelined to us. Mind you he is only 12 when I saw him coming I thought I was going to kill my dad. Who lets a 12 year old boy take off on his own? My dad that's who. He found us because he's capable and helped us pack his brothers deer out. I lagged back and watched the two of them work together.
My boys never play video games. Treat their mom and their sister like gold, get good grades, work their tales off in every sport they play despite having my athletic ineptitudes and are a blast to be around.
I'm that proud!

This is me packing my goat out. Also it’s me praying to the Lord that I don’t trip and die. I’m not the most agile goofball in the world. Probably the 2nd most sketchy spot of the hike out.

It would have been a significant fall I think but I don't think I would have died. Just broke my skull.
:yike:
I think the pic makes it look worse than it really was actually. I'm not gonna lie...some of it was nerve wracking.

Not sure why you are worried.... The ground would've caught you if you fell. :dunno:

Actually that was just as bad as it looks. I was glad when we got by there and to some grassier areas. What made it worse was the weight on our backs. I didn't think of that when I talked you into going over there. I was just focused on you shooting a goat. After you did and I thought about the trail back I must admit I was a little worried. I had talked you into it so I had to put on my game face. Full disclosure that was sketchy as heck.
-
I think Rick and I agree that this was give or take the path we took back.

This was a brutal one. About two hundred yards from the horses and a mile ride back to camp. Didn't get back until about 130 pm.

4!
Busy week
The total for that week was 5 but one guy was hot to get out and left the day before that picture. The beginning of the week was busy, 4 bulls had hit the ground by the end of day 2, but everything was pretty leisurely for the last part.
-
This was this guys first time elk hunting. To make the picture work I donated my mule for him to sit on because the outfitter horse he was using just wouldn't look rite in front of my friend's pack horse. It's easy country to take good pictures in.
The last picture is just from a quick trip to pack out a bull for some friends last September.

Thanks for posting theleo.
I always enjoy your pics.
If I knew an easier way to edit, post, and confirm my GPS stuff is off on the pictures I would share more as well.
Thanks again.
Cheers.

Those are fantastic pictures LEO.
2MANY if you want to send me pictures I can resize and screenshot them so they load without gps data 100%

I generally err on the side that if someone is dumb enough to try and go where I do (I get into spots most intelligent people would avoid) then best of luck to em. They're not likely to get game out without using stock and I can be 10 miles up the trail hunting the next day.

Appreciated.
Since Photobucket kicked the bucket I have never done something different.
I need a new photo sharing/editing system of some kind.

The easiest way I've found to post pictures anymore is to take a screenshot of the photo on your phone and then post the screenshot. It will be small enough file size, and no GPS data transfers to the screenshot. If any does, its wherever you're standing when you take the screenshot.

Great Photos folks!
Montana a few years ago.
How about a 'pack up' instead of pack out...

Canada Moose
There are 2 quarters plus the hide on each pack horse, which the outfitter said were Percheron/Clydesdale cross. We had a few Percheron horses when I was young and I don't think these horses were Percheron….but they were big.

wish I would have gotten a pic of my dads cow on the game cart, only had to pull her out a hundred yards or so but bent the wheel on the game cart so bad the old man had to somewhat straighten it out with the ax back at camp, ill try to dig around to find some more pics of some big game packouts but sadly I think we never took many growing up., definitely not as good of pics as what everyone else has taken.

This is my grandpa packing elk out of somewhere in WA, location lost to history. My mom tells me stories of his pack outs and it's pretty entertaining every time. He's a big reason why I decided to get into hunting - I wish I'd known the man better before he passed.
